The PB343-27 Powerball Ball Head with 3 Controls and Arca Type Quick Release from Davis & Sanford provides three control knobs for ball tension control, ball lock and 360º panning movements. The separate controls allow smooth, precise positioning and firm locking. An Arca-Swiss style quick release enables you to easily remove the camera from the head and a safety lock helps prevent miscues that can damage your camera. A standard base with 3/8-16" screw thread is compatible with most tripods and monopods and with a load capacity of 27 lb, this head will hold almost any camera and lens combination including videocameras, medium format, DSLR, mirrorless and point and shoots. Two bubble levels allow for even alignment and precise composition.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use this with an OConnor 35L?

A: I don't know but probably. It looks like it will fit anything and its very nice.Kenny

Q: 2. Does this have fluid pan AND tilt?

A: Yes, the following unit is capable of 360° pan movement while providing separate pan and tilt locks.

Q: 3. I know it's rated for 18 lbs but can it support a full-sized URSA with minimal accessories?

A: The BMD Ursa weighs 16 pounds before you add a battery, lens and other accessories. It is going to be very hard to keep the Ursa at the 18 pound mark, we advise against using this head. You can start your search with systems that have the Manfrotto 509HD Head. The 509HD has a load capacity of 29 pounds, which is enough to handle the Ursa and accessories. You will also need a VCT-14 Quick Release Tripod Adapter to mount the Ursa on any tripod.

Q: 4. Can I replace it's mounting plate with another, like the Zacuto VCT Tripod Plate?

A: The way to attach the Zacuto VCT Tripod Plate to the Davis & Sanford FM18 Fluid Head's is by using the FM18's own quick release plate as the attachment point.

Q: 5. Is this the FM18 or FM18/2? I just got burned buying the ProVista tripod clearly showing a picture of the FM18/2 (like this product image) and received the FM18 which is stiff and not as fluid.

A: It's the FM18/2.

Q: 6. Can it be used with Manor toot 502 tripod?

A: yes, i use it together

Q: 7. does this have a flat base?

A: Yes, this has a flat base.

Q: 8. I cant tighten the plate because the screw to tighten it butts up against our 5D M3. It retracts slightly, but not nearly enough to turn it while the camera is mounted. What am I doing wrong??

A: The lever is on a ratcheting arm. Pull the lever out, reposition and tighten.

Q: 9. Can I use this Spreader Dolly with a Manfrotto MVH502A Tripod?

A: The Manfrotto MVH502A model number only details the fluid head, not the legs. This head can be used on and comes packaged with many different tripod legs. The legs are what are important when looking for a compatible tripod dolly. The Davis and Sanford W4DS tripod dolly is only compatible with tripods with spiked claw feet such as the Manfrotto 546B tripod legs (B&H # MAH502A546BK).

Q: 10. How do you remove this head if mounted on a tripod, so you can use fluid head on a monopod or other device?

A: If you are ordering this product (just the head), there is no need to remove it from anything as it is the head only. If the FM18 head is mounted to a tripod raise the center post and lock it. Look underneath the center post top cap and you will see two allen screws. Loosen these screws and the head will now twist off.

[Yes] The FM18 was mated with a Giotto tripod and a Meade 80mm refractor to create a travel telescope kit. My viewing interest, which include terrestrial and sky objects, pulled me towards a fluid head instead of an AZ mount. The FM18 has no problem carrying the 7 lb scope along with a heavy 2 diagonal and 2 eyepiece. Movement is smooth enough to allow the small nudges needed when following a celestial object. The head is not lightweight, but mass is an asset for stable viewing/photography. Other reviews mention the interference between locking levers. While true, the ratchet feature provides a workaround. I'm very pleased with the product.

[Yes] My staff after only using for one day told me why did it take me so long to find a head that was so easy to use and makes their job a lot easier. This head is so smooth it is almost like it follows the stage person itself, there is no sudden start or stops. I would recommend this to anyone needing live production.David, Memorial Baptist Church @

[1x 1/4"-20 Male] I love how nicely and smoothly the pan and tilt for this head works. It's just that the bottom of it was flat so it didn't fit the legs I had bought (my legs had a rounded bottom), so unfortunately I had to return it.

[Yes] I've recently purchased and received a large astronomy binocular. I have a tripod head on order for the binocular but that will be delayed significantly. As my wife and I will be heading to Wyoming soon I needed a tripod head that could support these 16lb binoculars on that trip. I purchased this tripod head to use on the big binoculars for now but it will also be used to support a smaller set of binoculars. The head does support the big 100mm binoculars adequately and the smaller 60mm set easily. It works for me!

[Yes] This is a great fluid head with one caveat - it really performs best with heavier weight loads - perfect if your camera is on rails with accessories -
