[4.8 x 3 x 1.3"] I understand SmallHD monitors are not cheap and that filmmaking, in general, is already expensive enough to justify dropping $1500 on a monitor. That being said, the alternative is more expensive in the long run. I originally bought an Atomos Shinobi because of the above reasons, but after terrible experiences with Atomos products, I decided to try SmallHD—and I was blown away by its ease of use and quality.

This monitor offers so many customizable options compared to its competitors that it's difficult to even begin to list them. I've never missed focus using it. Even in low light or super bright conditions, this monitor delivers. Tools are supposed to solve problems, not create more problems that need to be solved. This is an excellent tool for your filmmaking kit.

[0.55 lb] I almost didn't buy this monitor because of the negative comments I read here on B&H about the fan noise this monitor has. But I finally decided to trust SmallHD and their reputation, and invest into this monitor... I'm so glad I did. Fan noise IS NOT a problem at all. And I am primarily an ENG style shooter with a shotgun mic mounted to my camera. You can hardly hear it at all. And you definitely DO NOT hear it in a recording. Also the colors are excellent. The images on screen look beautiful. It's super nice having a button on the side, so I don't have to use the touch screen all the time. And there are awesome tools that help me with focusing, luts, framing, and all sorts of things. The build quality feels great. It get's hot when you use it, and it's performed flawlessly for me since I bought it. I am so so so happy with this purchase and highly recommend this monitor. I think the reason there are so many negative reviews on this monitor, is because a few people got a dud, or didn't like something about it... but most people know how good SmallHD is, and most people have heard stories about SmallHD monitors like the 502 bright lasting people 7+ years, so they don't really feel like they need to leave a review. But I feel like I was mislead by the reviews here, this was my first SmallHD monitor, and I thought I'd share my experience. This monitor ROCKS!!!!!

[0.55 lb] Perfect fit for the 503. Not only does it add mounting points, but it also adds protection.

[4.8 x 3 x 1.3"] A little pricey, but worth it to protect the initial investment in the 503 monitor. Not only protection, but also gives a ton of mounting holes for rigging flexibility. Does add a little bulkiness and width to the montior, but that's a given.

[0.55 lb] The Cine 18 is a super solid purchase for those who need a trustworthy image on set, a deep feature set and the need to view multiple feeds simultaneously. I found the quad split mode absolutely invaluable to 3 camera interview setups, where a quick false color toggle allowed me to make sure the 3 different cameras had matched exposures. The ability to mix the HDMI input with the SDI inputs was particularly helpful, and while the SmallHD OS can be complicated at times, the deep well of features and options come in very handy (image overlay is great for matching frames). In addition, the monitor is lightweight with great mounting options.

My only significant complaint is SmallHD no longer sells a clear screen protector, so the monitor is naked on set, which is a recipe for disaster. I ended up getting on custom made by Jim Candreva, which saved the day.

[0.55 lb] Using it with my Cine18. Works fine but I wish the end attached to the brick was a little longer. I have my monitor on a cart and the brick ends up hanging. Nothing a little velcro can't solve.
