If you've been looking for a powerful and versatile Thunderbolt 3 docking station that restores many of the ports and connectivity that have been removed on modern day laptops, take a look at the LaCie 20TB 2big Dock Thunderbolt 3 RAID Array Blackfrom LaCie. The 2big Thunderbolt 3 Dock delivers a storage capacity of 20TB, which is comprised of two 10TB Seagate IronWolf Pro 7200 rpm SATA III 3.5" enterprise-class hard drives. While the 2big is compatible with Windows 10 and macOS 10.12, it comes formatted as HFS+ for Mac, and is configured as hardware-controlled RAID 0, which provides performance gains, but no data redundancy. Also supported is RAID 1 and JBOD.

The back of the 2big is equipped with two 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports, which allow you to interface with your host system at speeds up to 550 MB/s. The Thunderbolt 3 interface can also be used to connect two 4K displays or one 5K display, as well as daisy-chain up to five additional Thunderbolt 3 peripherals together. Additionally, there is a DisplayPort interface that supports 720p, 1080p, 4K, and 5K displays.

On its front, the 2big has a built-in USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 port, which can charge your USB device or connect a USB drive or digital camera for offloading files, as well as a CFexpress Type B, CFast 2.0, and UHS-II SDXC card slots, allowing you to directly download content from your drone, DSLR, GoPro, and more. This dock can store hundreds of hours of 4K footage and hundreds of thousands of raw images.

The LaCie 2big Thunderbolt 3 Dock includes a USB-C cable and an external power supply. Protection is provided by a limited 5-year warranty.

Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 are only supported when Apple's Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter is used with systems running macOS 10.12 Sierra or later.

Q: 7. Can I change from RAID 1 back to RAID O. I've filling up the drive at RAID 1 and thought I would free up 16TB if I use RAID 0?

A: You cannot switch RAID modes without loosing the data on the drives.

Q: 8. If one drive goes bad after the warranty, does a similarly sized drive need to take its place or can you put in a larger one (assuming it is in RAID mode, not JBOD)?

A: If you want to continue to use it in RAID, they will need to be identical. If you intend to use it in JBOD, it could be larger.

Q: 9. Can this connect to a late 2015 Apple IMAC?

A: You would have to use a USB-C to USB-A adapter to connect the LaCie 16TB 2big 2-Bay USB 3.1 Type-C RAID Array to your iMac, but it should work.

[20 TB] Set this up as a RAID 1 setup for redundancy so have 10TB to work with. Its fast, easy to use and even fairly portable (use the original packaging for transport). Thunderbolt3 is a must for use with Mac. B&H is, as always, very fast to fulfill too. 5

[1x Fan] Purchased it to work with my older Mac Pro 2010 5,1. Especially handy since it has Thunderbolt 3 and USB C. Found out that it tops out just over 500MBS as a RAID 0 using TB3 or the USB-C so... a Sonnet Allegra USB card for USB 3.1 Gen 2 and I'm good to go on my older Mac Pro. When I upgrade to a new Mac Pro I'll switch to TB 3 and it will continue to reap benefits. Wondering if I could swap the 2 hard drives for 4GB SSD for an even faster setup. 5
