Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is the SanDisk pro blade station and transport compatible with all the different blade capacity SDD mags?

A: The SanDisk Professional 8TB Professional PRO-BLADE STATION Kit with PRO-BLADE SSD Mag (4 x 2TB) BH #SAPBST2K comes with 4x 2TB blades but is compatible with other sizes as well.

Q: 2. Blackmagic Design recommends the SanDisk Professional 4TB PRO-BLADE SSD Mag but not the Transport. So how can you connect it?

A: The SanDisk Professional 4TB PRO-BLADE SSD Mag has a NVMe PCIe 3.0 interface, so it will have to be connected your Blackmagic device using the SanDisk Professional PRO-BLADE TRANSPORT (BH #SAPBT). This is the same way in which Blackmagic would have connected the SanDisk Professional 4TB PRO-BLADE SSD Mag to their devices when they tested of the drive.

Q: 3. If I can format the bade to FAT32, will it work inserted into a SanDisk Project drive formatted APSF?

A: Yes, the SanDisk Professional 2TB PRO-BLADE SSD Mag, (B&H # SAPB2TB), would work inserted into a SanDisk Project Drive even if it's a different format than the SanDisk Professional Project Drive. In that scenario, the Project drive is simply acting as a hub/reader.

Q: 4. Can the 4TB Blade handle sufficient read/write speeds to edit 4K/Multi-cam edits?

A: Yes, the SanDisk Professional 4TB PRO-BLADE SSD Mag can handle 4K multicamera editing. Keep in mind you will need to use it in either the SanDisk Professional PRO-BLADE TRANSPORT, B&H # SAPBT, or the SanDisk Professional PRO-BLADE STATION, B&H # SAPBST, in order to connect it to a computer.

Q: 5. Does the Blad mag itself have any port to connect directly to Mac, or does it need to be used with the Blade Station or transport?

A: This drive must be used with the Blade station or transport, it is not able to connect directly to a computer on its own.

Q: 6. Has anyone used the "Sandisk Pro Blade Transport 4TB NVMe SSDs" with Sigma FP Cameras? Any problems?

A: The SanDisk Professional 4TB PRO-BLADE SSD Mag isn't officially supported with the Sigma fp, and the camera doesn't support SSDs larger than 2TB. I recommend using the SanDisk 2TB Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2 (B&H # SAE812TB), as it's an officially tested and supported SSD.

Q: 7. It can be use with canon r3 and r5 ?

A: No, neither the Canon EOS R3 Mirrorless Camera or the Canon EOS R5 Mirrorless Camera have the ability to record directly to an SSD. These cannot be used with the SanDisk Professional 8TB Professional PRO-BLADE STATION Kit with PRO-BLADE TRANSPORT SSDs (4 x 2TB) for direct recording.

Q: 8. Can Pro-Blade station work as computer expandable (or multiple) external hard drive(s) and be on continuously for daily backup?

A: Yes, the SanDisk Professional PRO-BLADE STATION can be used for computer backup.

Q: 9. Will this device ever be able to use 8TB blades, for a total of 32TB?

A: Regarding the SanDisk Professional 16TB Professional PRO-BLADE STATION Kit with PRO-BLADE SSD Mag (4 x 4TB), at this time, SanDisk does not make an 8TB version of the PRO-BLADE SSD Mag.

Q: 10. Will the Station run cooler and quieter if I connect to USB3.2 Gen2 or Gen1? I need quietest for audio, not fastest for video.

A: Using the SanDisk Professional Professional PRO-BLADE STATION with a USB 3.2 connection should not impact heat or self-noise.

[1 TB] I'm really impressed with the PRO-BLADE STATION and its proprietary BLADE SSDs. It’s efficient, fast, quiet, and perfectly meets my data storage needs.

Windows 11 users will need to initialize each PRO-BLADE SSD Magazine in Disk Management initially, but once that's done and formatted, it’s good to go.

I have a 1TB BLADE for use as a cache scratch disk during graphics editing, a 4TB BLADE for backing up my C: drive, and another 4TB for additional data storage. Highly recommended.

[5.15 x 4 x 0.6"] I'm finding the PRO-BLADE STATION with it's proprietary BLADEs impressive. It's efficient, speedy, quiet and meets my data storage requirements.

For Windows 11 users, you'll need to initialize each PRO-Blade SSD Magazine in Disk Management at first. Once set up and formatted, you're all set.  I own a 1TB BLADE and use it as my cache scratch disk during graphics editing, a 4TB as a backup disk to my C: system drive and a second 4TB for data. Recommended.

[0.21 lb] This should just be how the world edits now. Take the mags and the external enclosure with you in the field (fraction of the size and weight of classic externals and blazing fast), bring them back to your workstation and load them into the station and edit. This has simplified and sped up my life so much and I can't imagine going back to the old way. More people should adopt this system or systems like it.

[0.21 lb] Recently purchased a Blade SSD and the mobile transport. Was so impressed I purchased a few more, plus the desktop pro reader, and sold all my unopened Samsung T7 Shield SSD’s. Those are good and slightly less expensive, but these Sandisk Blades are incredibly fast at reading and writing and the tiny form factor makes storing a pile of them much more space efficient. I just hope they decide to make the “sale” price the permanent price. At around $300 for a 4TB SSD they are a bargain. Time is money, too. What used to take a few minutes to archive is now down to several seconds. Over the course of a day that makes a difference.

[5.15 x 4 x 0.6"] This is exactly what I was looking for to increase my speed over my previous Thunderbolt HD RAID. I spread my photo storage across the 4 SSD units and have my main catalog on my MacBook Pro. Lightroom runs super quick this way. I use Carbon Copy Cloner to backup the 4 SSDs back to my Thunderbolt RAID for redundancy. Also, have the Transport is convenient for taking just part of my library on the go.

[5.15 x 4 x 0.6"] I was looking to expand my internal memory/storage. I have an apple studio m1 ultra but didn't opt for the absurd storage upgrade to 2 or 4tb. I am a video editor/producer so I was continually shuffling files around from external drives to internal storage back to external drives. My collection of SSDs was getting out of hand so I started searching for a better solution. The SSDs I was using only read/write at around 700 to 900mbs. While this is enough to edit from, my workflow and file size started making it harder and harder. I usually edit up to 5, 6k raw files (synced) at a time. The max studio could handle the live
Render just fine, but my HD speed was the limiting factor. Cut to find this bad boy. I looked at other docking systems like the M4 but the read write speed of the pro blade AND the ability to write directly to the blades from my camera sold me. I shoot on 2 bmcc 6k pros, so the Pro Blade system was a no brained, in my opinion. It's insanely fast 2k mbs read/write speed and modular expandable memory allows me to scale and archive very easily. This has improved my work flow and speed up exporting and editing by a significant amount! I feel like I'm getting the best out of my Mac again!

Highly recommend this product, especially if you are dealing with large, RAW file sizes from a red or BM camera.

[0.21 lb] This is an excellent piece of hardware. Read/write speeds are insane. I was able to transfer a Terabyte worth of photos and videos in a matter of minutes and it works seamlessly during editing. Solid build and not loud as some other users have encountered. Have it a few weeks so will update review after more rigorous use.
