The Tiffen 4x4" Cool Blue Soft-Edge Filterhelps to specifically add a cool, purplish-blue coloration to skies and other bright areas of an image while allowing a portion of the image to remain neutrally colored. The filter's coloring is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged transition between the density and clear areas. The 1 color density provides less cool blue coloration than the 2 density filter.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch. It measures 4 x 4" / 101.6 x 101.6mm.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Is this equivalent to 100x100mm? Does this filter fit on NiSi 100mm filter holder?

A: Yes, 4 x 4" is equivalent to 100 x 100mm. Unfortunately though, this is a specialized cine-style filter that is thicker (4mm) than the kind the NiSi holder will take (2mm).

Q: 2. How many stops of light do the different numbers cut out?

A: The Tiffen 4 x 5.65" Blue 4 Hard Edge Graduated Filter is not an ND filter; it changes the color of half the image. The different numbers give you different intensities of blue.

Q: 3. Can there filters be used in a Lee 100 filter holder?

A: Yes they can.

Q: 4. What is the thickness of the filter?(I'm concerned to get vignetting in wide angle lenses)Does it rotate too?Thank you very much!

A: I am not completely sure of its thickness but it seems to be in the .5mm to 1.0 mm range. Very lightIt does not rotate.I use it with my Sigma 10-20mm lens and unless I use it with another filter it does not produce any vignetting. I have used it together with a polarizing filter and it produces some vignetting at 10mm but it disappears at 15mm.O hope this helps.

Q: 5. Why my purchase is not shipped yet (Lee filter Sunset) ? Thank you.

A: I see now that it say in stock because when I ordered in April it was listed as custom order.

Q: 6. Does this filter have a rotating filter ring to allow more control over placement of density in the image?

A: Yes it does. Turns easily and is well constructed. Used it successfully in Hawaii taking sunsets. It has a nice soft graduation. I've had good luck with Tiffen filters. Has the quality that I desire and meets my price point. I use my 58mm filters on a Canon GX1. Hope that helps.

Q: 7. what is the filter factor for this? How much light does it reduce?

A: There is no light loss when using this filter.

Q: 8. What is the practical or functional difference between this filter and the Tiffen ND digital filter with the same specifications? Is the ND digital model worth the extra cost (It lists at $120) ?

A: The difference between the normal 72mm Graduated 0.6 ND filter and the Tiffen 72mm Graduated 0.6 ND Digital HT Filter a href= http://http://bhpho.to/1xRFwr9 target= _blank http://bhpho.to/1xRFwr9/a is in the coatings. The Digital HT filter has a high transmission coating that is optimized for digital cameras, as well as scratch resistance and a low-profile titanium filter rings for increased strength and vignetting reduction.

Q: 9. Horizontal or vertical orientation to the gradient?

A: It is horizontal.

Q: 10. Which Day for Night Lens(es) fit a Canon Zoom EF-S 17-85mm Lens?

A: The Canon 17-85mm lens has a 67mm filter thread, so you would need the Tiffen 67mm Day for Night Lavender-Blue Cooling Filter (B&H # TICDFN67).

[0.4 lb] I used this filter where part of a waterfall was in full sun with part of it shaded. It worked perfectly.
