The Tiffen 4x4" Pearlescent 1/4 Filtercan be applied to purposely soften contrast and reduce sharpness. This can be useful for high-resolution digital cinematography in order to create a more flattering result of a subject by reducing the appearance of blemishes and softening highlights. Additionally, a pearlescent halo around highlights is created which can further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect.

This filter has a grade of 1/4. Grades of 1/8, 1/2, 1, and 2 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

This filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

Q: 1. Is there a remote that will work with this device?

A: There is no specific remote for the MuxLab 4x4 4K60 HDMI Matrix Switch but it can be used with IR Remotes, RS-232, and Telnet Control.

Q: 2. How much vignetting would this lens have on a tokina 11-16 lens on a Nikon D7200?

A: Your camera body is not full frame and has a 1.5x magnification factor. As a result your 11-16mm lens when used on this body is essentially a 16.5mm -24mm lens. There should be no vignetting given these focal lengths when using a standard CP filter. Q: 3. When a polarizing filter is in the neutral position, does it still weaken light? And can it be used as a lens protection filter as the UV filter?

A: Most Circular Polarizers cause about a 1.5-2.5 stop of light loss when on your lens depending on where the filter has been rotated to. Circular Polarizers are not designed as protection filters but they can protect the front element of your lens like any other filter.

Q: 4. does this rotate independently of the lens?

A: I am not sure what you exactly mean... but I can tell you this. The filter screws on to the lens.

Q: 5. Are Tiffen filters multi-coated?

A: While some Tiffen filters are multi-coated, the Tiffen 77mm UV Protector Filter listed above is not. The Tiffen 77mm UV Haze 86 Digital HT Filter, B&H # TIH86DHT77, would be the only 77mm UV filter from Tiffen which would be multi-coated.

A: This filter will fit on any lens with a 49mm filter thread.

A: Yes, Tokina AT-X 116 PRO DX-II 11-16mm f/2.8 Lens has a 77mm front thread diameter. Tiffen 77mm UV Protector Wide Angle Mount Filter will fit the lens perfectly without vignetting.

Q: 8. If a computer is connected to an input and no output is active: Will the computer still detect that it's connected to a monitor?

A: No, unless the MuxLab 4x4 4K60 HDMI Matrix Switch is producing n actual outputting signal, a computer will not see any signal until such action is taken by the switch.

Q: 9. Does this polarizer have threads on the front (making it possible to use stack caps)? If so, is the front diameter also 55mm? Thanks!

A: According to Tiffen Technical Support: We would recommend the Wide Angle filters, especially if you are shooting on a full frame sensor camera.

[0.345 lb] As the previous reviewer mentioned, this piece of glass is 4mm thick instead of the more standard 2mm thick that filter systems accommodate. If you are using the original Lee 4x4 setup, you can order 4mm side guides (google it) for your kit that will allow to use the thicker glass. I hope this helps someone. 5

[0.345 lb] It’s very subtle even if it’s strenght 2. The skin is smoohter but innsharp focus. The lower lights get around 1/3rd of a stop brighter, while the brighter lights get some 1/3rd of a stop darker. Thus the contrast is subtly reduced, making the lighting look more filtered. The filter doesn’t like direct light pointed towards the camera, so use a matebox and position the camera accordingly. I like to combine with Black Satin 1 for lowering the highlights even more. 5

[0.345 lb] This filter is going to be on every portrait shot I take from now on. The 1/8 strength is subtle enough to clean blemishes of a 4K or 8MP+ image while not making the image look soft. There are however some conditions where it's not ideal. I filmed a window on a sunny day from a dark room, and the halo effect spilling into the room was too strong and unnatural looking even though this filter's strength is only 1/8. If done under the right conditions, it could give a nice stylized look. 5
