Being less than 7" long, the AT875R is equally at home on a boompole or atop a camera. It uses an interference tube and a supercardioid polar pattern to yield focused on-axis directionality while attenuating rear-entry sound and rejecting sound at the sides. This makes the AT875R far more effective at capturing distant sources than the omnidirectional mics found in most cameras. Its 90 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response naturally reduces problematic bass frequencies from common sources such as traffic rumble and wind noise.

With a balanced 3-pin XLR output and support for 11 to 52 VDC phantom powering, the AT875R is compatible with a variety of handheld audio recorders, field recorders, and mixer adapters as well as built-in preamps on many camcorders and cinema cameras.

The AT875R includes a mic clip for easy placement on a mic stand or boompole. Alternatively, mount the AT875R in the Audio-Technica AT8415 shockmount (available separately) to impede the transfer of vibrations between your boompole and the mic. The AT875R also includes two rubber O-rings that expand the microphone's diameter to fit the larger mic holders found on many high-end cameras.

The AT875R has a foam windscreen to reduce unwanted wind noise from breezes, fans, heaters, and air conditioners. Enhanced attenuation of wind noise is possible with the addition of an optional windshield such as the Rycote 12 cm Super-Softie, which also provides high immunity to rain.

For maximum reduction of handling noise and wind noise in indoor or outdoor environments, consider the separately available Rycote Windshield Kit 3, a complete windjammer, windshield, and shockmount suspension system.

A: The Saramonic LC-XLR Female XLR to Lightning Microphone Adapter Cable for iOS Devices (B&H # SALCXLR) can be used to connect the AT897 to your iPhone You will need to use a battery to power the mic since the iPhone can not supply phantom power. The other options for cables are the Saramonic SR-XLR35 XLR Female to 3.5mm TRRS Microphone Cable for DSLR Cameras and Smartphones (B&H # SASRXLR35) combined with the Apple Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter (B&H # APLAADAP). Q: 5. Slide switch up or down for phantom power ?

A: Neither. The switch is a low cut filter. If a AA battery is inside of the microphone, you do not need phantom power. If there is no battery inside, then you need phantom power.

Q: 6. I see that in the box, there are 2xO'Rings. What is it for?

A: The O-rings are included to create a tight and secure fit around a mic like the Audio-Technica AT875R Short Shotgun Microphone when placing it in a camcorder's mic holder.

(In other words, I am not sure if that camcorder provide power to this microphone ?)

A: This mic does not require any power. Just a 1/8 mic jack.

Q: 9. I'm looking to shoot two or three people in one shot, with the boom overhead on a stand. Mostly indoors. Would this mic capture everyone's dialogue if there is no boom operator to move to the speaker?

A: A shotgun mic should be used to pick up dialog from one person, or professional sounding audio. If you use it to pick up two people, the sound will become thin. I would suggest using a boom person, or setting up two mics in a stereo configuration.

Q: 10. Does this Mic work well with a Canon SL1? is there electrical feedback?

A: The Canon SL1 is able to power the Rode VideoMicro and will provide a higher quality and more directional capture than available with the cameras built in mic.

[Phantom Power] Great mic at a low cost, was surprised by the sound quality. Is it the best, probably not but for most uses it is pretty good. Used for indoor dialog, to a Zoom H6 audio recorder. Worked well for an interview in a noisy room.

[0.825 lb] I use the Audio Technica 875R with a Tascam DR40 recorder for quick setups. The microphone uses phantom power, and it has no controls for adjustments. It is an easy to use, plug-and-go shotgun mic. It's a good all-purpose mic. I am satisfied with the sound; it's very good for a mic in this price range.

[Mono] This is my second AT875R, the first one is still going strong. I use one on my camera (c300miii) and wanted another one to use as a boom, or have the option to have two matching boom mics. They're versatile, easy to use, durable, small, light and have very respectable audio recording properties when paired with a decent pre-am or recorder. They're more forgiving than many as far as aiming them goes, but do decent job of rejecting what you don't want, they work well with most voices, produce very little of their own noise. Easily 95 percent as good as some very high end mic's for a very reasonable investment.

[Mono] In my opinion best shotgun microphone I worked with. Sharp sound!
I owe a NTG 1 which I paid almos twice the price which catches the the sound of the subject and also the background sound. This makes it sometimes almost unusable audio.

With the AT875R you catch the sound you want. I use it on my BMPC run & gun. The detail sound i record separately with my camera then edit all together and BANG!!

[0.825 lb] I am not an audio technician and admit I do not have the ear of a professional audiophile. However, I can attest to the fact that when I use this for video interviews, documentaries or narrative short movies, the audio is very rich, clear and professional sounding. I cannot detect hiss at all. They say sound is 90% of what you see onscreen and the audio from this mic really improves my visuals, if that makes sense. I find myself reaching for this mic before my Sennheiser ME66 and RODE M30. I bought two of these for two person interview setups and their directionality is fantastic. The sound seems to have a rich slightly bass effect which is pleasing to the ear.

[Phantom Power] Very good microphone. NOT top of the line but it is definitely a go to mic for everyday usage around medium background noise. Lightweight with a carrying case and mount it will do the job with minimal sound editing necessary in post production.

[Phantom Power] I bought a pair as ambience mics for streaming church services. These work very well for that purpose and very affordable compared other mics for that same purpose.
