Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can Litepanel Caliber power by Sony NP batteries via DC Barrel cable?

A: Unfortunately, no, the Litepanels Caliber LED Light cannot be powered by a Sony NP-F series battery.

Q: 2. Can these mount on any normal light stand post?

A: These LED units can mount onto any standard light stand which has a 5/8 stud and terminates to a 1/4 male thread.

Q: 3. What is the size of this snapbag?

A: Litepanels states that the dimensions of the Litepanels DoPchoice Snapbag Big for Astra 1x1 LED Lights when collapsed are 18 x 14 x 3 inches (45.7 x 35.6 x 7.6 cm) in size , and when fully expanded are 11 x 16.5 x 17 inches (27.9 x 40.6 x 43.2 cm) in size.

Q: 4. does it fit the p180?

A: Hi Gustavo, Yes this does fit the P180. It mounts when the barn doors are on the P180 as the magnets are on the base of the barn door.

Q: 5. there are two different snapbags offered for the Astra. Why is twice the cost of the other. What is the difference between them? Why is the eggcrate cost so much?

A: It is twice as big as the smaller one. It is too expensive, but it makes beautiful diffused light. I guess they can charge what they want as long as people are buying. I have two sets. I just worry about wear and tear in the future. I haven't had an issue yet though.

Q: 6. Would this kit be sufficient to light a single person interview in a medium shot, or would this be better considered for use as specials, to create a lighting effect, as a catch light, or as a accent light, etc.?

A: It could work for that if you are wanting a hard light, your subject isn't moving, and the ambient light isn't overpowering. Typically that would be either indoors without strong backlighting. . . or possibly outdoors at night. Having said that, for the sake of versatility it would be more typical to use a more powerful light source with a softbox option such as this one: Genaray Torpedo Portable Daylight Focusing 3-LED Light Softbox Kit (BH #GEBLT603LSBK) https://bhpho.to/3wF9BRl

Q: 7. Could you use these for indoor location portrait and fashion stills?

A: These would not be ideal for those uses.

Q: 8. hey, the overview says that the light is twice as bright when plugged into AC power. Does that mean it gets the equivalent power of a 300w light when plugged into AC or does that mean that the light normally runs at a 75w when battery powered with a max of 150w when plugged into AC? Thanks!

A: The 150w equivalent is when it is plugged in to AC.On batteries it is like it is the equivalent of a 75w light.

Q: 9. Is there a DC extension cable for the Caliber power supply or a more robust power supply?. What is the part # for ext? Not listed on Litepanels site.

A: The best thing would be to do is to attach the AC adapter to an regular extension cord and then that to the wall.

Q: 10. I am considering these lights to add color to a studio background. Are the included gels just for color correction? If so, what is best way to attach gels?

A: These are gels that change the color temperature. Every light has a gel holder and you pop off the holder in front of the light, and place the gel inside, then you put the lid back on. I am pretty sure these gels are CTO and CTB. It's best to ask to make sure.

I bought this Sola 4+ fresnel for use as a back light in a typical 3 point lighting scenario. It fits the bill quite well I think. I considered the ARRI L5 for this because it is bi-color, but my budget didn't quite allow for it, so the Sola 4+ was the next best option. The Sola 4+ is light enough to place on a boom without excessive counterweights and allows for easy rigging. The fixture is mostly plastic which gives it a bit of a cheap feel however. The barn doors have plastic hinges but the doors are aluminum. Considering the plastic makes it light weight, which is a huge bonus if you are travelling with this fixture, I think it is a reasonable trade off. The focus range allows fine tuning and quite a narrow spot. Fan is quite enough that most audio situations would not pick it up. The fixture has a small form factor but it packs a pretty good punch for its size. Because it is only daylight balanced, I purchased the 5 piece CTO pack which includes a opal frost diffusion. Not sure I will use the DMX function but it's nice to know it's there incase I do. Overall, I think this light is a pretty good value but it needs to be handled and packed carefully to avoid possible damage. I gave the Sola 4+ five stars because it met my expectations based on the advertising and published specs. Now Litepanels needs to make a bi-color version of this fresnel to truly perfect it!

Well I left a review back in 2017 after I bought it. Im still quite happy with the Fixture. I recently tested the CRI using my Sekonic C-700, the results hovered around 94.0 to 95.0 depending on temperature. I would say Litepanels general claim of a High CRI rings true but the output is no where near a 575w HMI. There are cheaper lights on the market now like the Aputure Storm 300d II that do output the equivalent of the 575w HMI, however I have not tested the CRI as of yet.

Love this little light! Fresnel lens, spot or flood, just wish it was bicolor so I don't have to worry about gels and filters.

First of all you can use Sony NPF batteries to power this light. You need a NPF battery plate with 12vdc out. It runs about 3 hours in full power. Rechargeable AA batteries also work great but half the light power (runs about an hour and 20min). It is a perfect size and weight fresnel light. You can shape the light with barn doors if it is used at 50 to 75 degree. It doesn’t get hot so you can run it all day.
