Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can additional lights be purchased separately?

A: Please see attached link for a single light https://bhpho.to/3s0bbKb

Q: 2. Can these mount on any normal light stand post?

A: These LED units can mount onto any standard light stand which has a 5/8 stud and terminates to a 1/4 male thread.

Q: 3. does this come with a case?

A: No, the Litepanels Studio X2 Bi-Color LED Fresnel Lighting does not include a case. However, a case such as the Pelican 0340 Cube Case with Foam (Black), BH # PE0340CCFB would accommodate the fixture. https://bhpho.to/3KYHHr6

Q: 4. What is the CRI (Color Rendering Index) of these lights?

A: According to Litepanels, the CRI rating would be 91 for the Caliber LED Fresnel.

Q: 5. I am considering these lights to add color to a studio background. Are the included gels just for color correction? If so, what is best way to attach gels?

A: These are gels that change the color temperature. Every light has a gel holder and you pop off the holder in front of the light, and place the gel inside, then you put the lid back on. I am pretty sure these gels are CTO and CTB. It's best to ask to make sure.

Q: 6. Is there a DC extension cable for the Caliber power supply or a more robust power supply?. What is the part # for ext? Not listed on Litepanels site.

A: The best thing would be to do is to attach the AC adapter to an regular extension cord and then that to the wall.

Q: 7. Is it a Universal 1/4 -20 mount on these?

A: Yes, this would have an Universal 1/4 -20 mount on this.

Q: 8. Does rechargeable NiMH batteries can work on these lights?

A: Yes, you can use rechargeable AA batteries like these, https://bhpho.to/3h0QxY6 And you will need a charger and this is some options, https://bhpho.to/3doQQto

Q: 9. Does each light use (6) AA batteries or only 2?

A: Each light would take 6 batteries

Q: 10. Does this product come with the Bowens mount reflector dish?

A: Yes, the SmallRig RA-BD08 8-Leaf Barndoors does include a Bowens mount.

Well I left a review back in 2017 after I bought it. Im still quite happy with the Fixture. I recently tested the CRI using my Sekonic C-700, the results hovered around 94.0 to 95.0 depending on temperature. I would say Litepanels general claim of a High CRI rings true but the output is no where near a 575w HMI. There are cheaper lights on the market now like the Aputure Storm 300d II that do output the equivalent of the 575w HMI, however I have not tested the CRI as of yet.

Love this little light! Fresnel lens, spot or flood, just wish it was bicolor so I don't have to worry about gels and filters.

First of all you can use Sony NPF batteries to power this light. You need a NPF battery plate with 12vdc out. It runs about 3 hours in full power. Rechargeable AA batteries also work great but half the light power (runs about an hour and 20min). It is a perfect size and weight fresnel light. You can shape the light with barn doors if it is used at 50 to 75 degree. It doesn’t get hot so you can run it all day.

Portable , powerful and extremely portable. Great piece of interview equipment , love the size. Had to add a couple of light stands. I use the lights most of the time on the AA batteries, makes it easy and convenient .

If you appreciate a small, light, focusable, dimmable 0-100% back-light/rim/hair light you'll be like me -- I bought another set, a few more used, and an array of 1/4 20 mounting accessories (which was never part of my kit before). I can rig these lights in ways I couldn't rig/mount heavier lights before. I can quickly add splash or a bit of tone without trips to the truck. Option to run on batteries at 50% power? I suppose I could have a reason, but would probably just use an external battery for 100%. I thought the little legs silly, until they were perfect for a job. Now have all sorts of 1/4 20 mounts for all sorts of mounting solutions.

These barn doors are built well (maybe over built) and work well. They attach to the S60 quickly and easily, plus they have safety clips build in. I leave these doors on my SkyPanels to transport them. Adds a level of protection while bouncing around in the grip truck. Kinda heavy, though...

The extra flexibility allows much more exact control of light than a standard 4 leaf barn door. Works smooth and folds up thin. Very happy with it.

I bought this Sola 4+ fresnel for use as a back light in a typical 3 point lighting scenario. It fits the bill quite well I think. I considered the ARRI L5 for this because it is bi-color, but my budget didn't quite allow for it, so the Sola 4+ was the next best option. The Sola 4+ is light enough to place on a boom without excessive counterweights and allows for easy rigging. The fixture is mostly plastic which gives it a bit of a cheap feel however. The barn doors have plastic hinges but the doors are aluminum. Considering the plastic makes it light weight, which is a huge bonus if you are travelling with this fixture, I think it is a reasonable trade off. The focus range allows fine tuning and quite a narrow spot. Fan is quite enough that most audio situations would not pick it up. The fixture has a small form factor but it packs a pretty good punch for its size. Because it is only daylight balanced, I purchased the 5 piece CTO pack which includes a opal frost diffusion. Not sure I will use the DMX function but it's nice to know it's there incase I do. Overall, I think this light is a pretty good value but it needs to be handled and packed carefully to avoid possible damage. I gave the Sola 4+ five stars because it met my expectations based on the advertising and published specs. Now Litepanels needs to make a bi-color version of this fresnel to truly perfect it!
