The Canon HJ40ex10B EPF Lens with 2x Extenderfrom Canon HJ40ex10B EPF Lens with 2x Extenderis a high-definition EFP lens ideal for field production applications with ENG cameras. It can extend to 770mm with the 2x extender. A unique optical image stabilization system makes possible the capture of rock-steady, high-definition imagery under the most adverse of field conditions.

The optical and mechanical design innovations of the lens substantially reduce flare, veiling glare, and any internal reflections. They also work to minimize image ghosting and other highlight-related chromatic distortions caused by strong light sources on-axis and off-axis, further extending the operational contrast range of the lens.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this work with a Canon Zoom Lens EF 100-400mm L series on a Canon 7D?

A: The Canon Extender RF 2x is incompatible with the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens. The Canon Extender EF 2X III, BH #CA2XEF3, is compatible with the Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM Lens. On the Canon EOS 7D DSLR Camera, only manual focus will work.

Q: 2. Whats the lowest Fstop on Canon's 100-500 RF when used with 2x extender or the 1.4 when zoomed out?

A: The widest aperture on the Canon RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM Lens with the Canon Extender RF 2x attached is f/8.5 at the wide end of the zoom and f/15.1 at the telephoto end of the zoom. This is because you lose two stops with the Canon Extender RF 2x.

Q: 3. Combined with the ef to rf adapter, can this extender be used for ef mount lenses, or would it be better to buy the ef 2x extender? I don't want to buy any more ef equipment, if possible

A: This teleconverter is made to fit into the select RF lenses. It will not work with the EF-RF adapter or any other lens it wasn't designed for, as that protruding element of the teleconverter will get in the way.

Q: 4. Will this smudge the inside of my Canon 100-500 RF lens if I zoom out really fast to 300mm?

A: The Canon Extender RF 2x only works with the Canon 100-500 RF at 300-500mm. If you try to zoom less it can actually hit the back of the lens. So do not go less on the zoom.

Q: 5. Can you use a 2x teleconverter with the ef adapter on a rf body?

A: No.

Q: 6. WHERE SHOULD THE SENSORS BE MOUNTED ON A TYPICAL SETUP?

A: This lens is normally used on a ENG or broadcast studio camera. Within that camera is the sensor that this lens focuses on.

Q: 7. Will this work seamlessly with an R5 body using the EF-EOS R adapter and the Canon ET-83C (100-400mm f/4.5)?

A: No, the Canon Extender RF 2x is only designed to work with specific RF-mount lenses. This will not work with the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R.

Q: 8. It's not compatible with a 70-200 or the RF 24-105, due to physical incompatibility, can it be resolved by using extension tubes like Kenko or JJC? It's not specifically recommended by canon but These extensions tubes are usually used for Macro. Some setup has been made combining the canon extender (EF) 2x and 1.4x with an extension tube ( to shot the moon for exemple). So the question is woukd it work?

A: No , it will not work

Q: 9. Have anyone tried this RF extender on a RF body, then an EF adapter, finally, an EF lense? In theory, it should work...

A: No, they are not compatible. All Canon RF to EF adapters have a narrow square shape opening on the back; therefore, the Canon Extender RF 2x front optic cannot fit through the adapter.

Q: 10. Will this work with the new RF 400mm f/2.8 and 600mm f/4 lenses?

A: The RF 2x will work with the RF 600mm f/4L IS USM and RF 400 2.8 yes..

[2/3" (16:9)] I ordered this to use for the solar eclipse and wildlife. I've only had a chance to test it on images of the full sun disk with solar filter and so far I'm impressed. I'm excited to add the extra reach to my 100-500 lens in such a small package.

[40x] The Extender RF 2x does what you'd expect it to do - doubles the focal length of the lens and doubles the minimum f-number. Optical quality is good; when used together with an RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1 L IS USM lens, there's only a small loss of sharpness, and some of that may be unavoidable due to diffraction. Autofocus continues to work with the extender, but image stabilization can become unreliable.

[2/3" (16:9)] The performance of this extender mated to my Canon® R5 and a Canon® 200 - 800 zoom really extends my reach when trying to capture wildlife pictures including active, small insects around 10' distant.

[2x] I really took a chance on getting this extender. After hearing negative comments from users and reviewers for so many years about 2x teleconverters, I figured I'd try it since I could always return it if it didn't fit the bill.
This extender is exceptional! I'm using it with an RF100-500 on an Canon R3; Near as I can tell, I'm losing an insignificant amount in image quality, and while the viewfinder image is a little bit darker, which I expected, the lens and extender combination is not nearly as heavy as I expected, and I've now got a manageable 600-1000mm super telephoto.
I'm taking my name off the RF200-800 wait lists...

[Yes] works great on the R5, just a little sluggish when tracking a bird in flight but once it locks on clear shots

[40x] My Canon R6 Mk II is a nice camera but needs a more magnification when photographing the sun and moon. The RF 2x makes that possible with no noticeable degradation of quality.

[Yes] Leaving next week on a photo safari and thought I would give my 2X a test. I was amazed I could get that amount of detail hand-held. I have complete confidence I'll be able to capture a distant subject.
