The Tiffen 4x5.65" Satin 1/2 Filtercan be applied to purposely reduce the appearance of blemishes and wrinkles. This can be useful for creating a more flattering result of a subject while highlights are softened, contrast is reduced, and textures are given a smoother appearance. Additionally, a halation effect around highlights is created which can further enhance a subject's appearance or produce a desired effect while overall sharpness is maintained.

This filter has a grade of 1/2. Grades of 1, 2, and 3 are also available where this filter type's effect becomes approximately twice as strong with each grade number increase.

This filter is constructed from water white glass for increased clarity as well as color fidelity. It is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

[6.4 x 5.1 x 1"] This is my second Satin 2 filter in a bigger size. This filter is great because it is very subtle, but just enough of an effect to take the digital look off of video. It smooths skin slightly and softens hard edges, lifts shadows for a slight reduction in contrast (which helps cameras with low dynamic range) and highlights bloom slightly so you don't get that obvious point where highlights blowout. The halation doesn't take on a warm tone like the black pro mist does, which I think helps keep it a subtle effect.Overall, the effect might be compared to the look of older lenses or a more filmic vibe. I bought it to use with the iPhone 13 Pro, which has great video, but is too sharp and clean for me. It works with the telephoto lens and wide, but with the ultra wide lens you can see the lens in the reflection of the filter and the little diffusion beads they apply to the filter. Unfortunate, but that lens was designed for macro too. 5
