$1,797.00 $2,246.25

The A231 Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone from Audix is an ultralow-noise condenser mic designed for demanding studio use. Designed with a larger-than-average effective diaphragm, a highly directional cardioid pickup pattern, and a rugged, machined aluminum housing, the A231 is a versatile studio mic that handle voices and instruments with ease, imparting natural warmth with impressive detail.

The A231 sports convenient integrated hardware to make recording easier than ever, with an integrated vibration-reducing shockmount that eliminates the need for bulky external shockmounts, and a built-in acoustic foam filter and steel alloy grille for avoiding plosives and sibilance. The extremely low-noise preamp circuitry produces clean signals, and an active driven shielding helps to protect the preamp-to-capsule connection from obtrusions like capacitive coupling. The microphone includes a zippered carrying case for safe transport to and from recording locations, and the included snap-on mic clip makes the A231 easy to mount on any 5/8" or 3/8" stand or boom.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the KSM141/SL Stereo Pair kit include mic clips in addition to the A27M stereo adapter?

A: Here's what's in the box:Shure KSM141/SL Stereo - Dual-Pattern Instrument Microphone (Pair)Carry Case2 x Foam WindscreensA27M Stereo Microphone AdapterTwo stand adaptersTwo (2) Year Warranty

Q: 2. Can this be used as a stage mic as well? I would be using this to record students in my studio of voice in my living room. Is this a good option for not being in a recording studio?

A: Generally speaking, Large diaphragm microphones are not recommended choices for stage use. They are just too delicate for this application.

Q: 3. Will this mic work “out-of-the-box” with Windows 7?

A: Yes. the Samson Meteorite works out of the box and only requires minimal setup to select the mic as your input device. Here is a link to the user manual with all of the details for setup and operation: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/118611.pdf

Q: 4. The female to 2x male XLR cable seems short. Is it meant to be just an adapter? I would be connecting the mic to a MIxPre-3 II.

A: Just buy yourself 2 XLR cables 10 to 15 ft and just use this as an extender with the cables the Rode NT4 comes with.

Q: 5. What could I use for wind protection for this? Something like a rycote is preferred.

A: If being used on stereo bar for a Spaced Pair or ORTF setup, you could use two of the Rycote Baby Ball Gag's and their additional windjammers, B&H # RYBBG20 and BH #RYBBGWJ. If looking to do an XY inside of a blimp, the closest option we offer is the Rycote Stereo Cyclone Kit 1,B&H # RYCXYK1. However please note it is sized for a 3'' in length mic and the KSM are 5.75'' and may not fit properly.

Q: 6. I read in the Product highlights that the NTK comes with a dual diaphragm capsule, and 9 polar patterns? Is this correct? ( I believe that describes is the Rode K2, and not the NTK.) Nor does it use phantom power.

A: I apologize for the confusion, the NTK is a cardioid patterned mic, not variable, and utilizes its own included power supply.

Q: 7. Does Rode make any mics that have a built in interface?

A: Rode does offer several USB mics but they do not have a stereo X/Y style USB mic. You can use the NT4 with a dual-input USB interface such as the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (B&H # FOSCARL2I23G) to connect it to a computer. The included Y-cable for the mic has two 3-pin XLR connectors that will connect to each channel on the interface. Please contact us by phone or through live chat if you have additional questions or would like further assistance.

Q: 8. how long is cord?

A: While the manufacturer does not specify the length of the cable, a picture in the manual would suggest 12''-18'' estimated length.

Q: 9. Is the included female to 2x male XLR cable meant to be just an adapter as it seems short? I would be connecting to MixPre-3

A: The Y-cable that is included with the NT4 stereo microphone is 10.3 feet long and can be used to connect directly to the inputs on a MixPre-3. If a longer length is needed, you can attach standard 3-pin XLR cables onto each side as extensions. The included Y-cable is the Rode NT4-DXLR Stereo 5-Pin XLR to Dual 3-Pin XLR Cable for NT-4 Fixed X/Y Condenser Microphone (B&H # RONT4DXLRCBL).

Q: 10. How does the KSM141/SL ST pair differ from the previous KSM141/ST pair?

A: There does not appear to be any difference at all between the current and older versions of the Shure KSM141/SL ST PAIR Condenser Microphone (Stereo Pair).

[Cardioid] Compared to my Schoeps CMC-MK41, Audix sounds warmer (good for adding body to thin voice), signal is slightly stronger (less preamp needed = less noise), shorter (more ceiling room for boom work), 3 times cheaper, all good attributes.

[Cardioid] We are using these condenser microphones for a 20 member church choir. The product literature was very helpful for us in assembly and future modifation of our sound system. The sound technician and I also liked the on-line tutorials that Audix posted.

[Mono] Just picked one up for our documentary work. Can't go wrong with this mic, fantastic for indoor dialogue. Excellent quality. Audix has great customer service too! Always nice to buy a local, US product too :)

[Cardioid] I am using this for an interior audio set-up on a boompole. The quality of the mic is great with a warm tone. I recommend purchasing with the kit to save money. The wood case is nice but I would've preferred a more durable Pelican style case which I ended up purchasing separately and leaving the wood case in storage.

[Solid-State] I have been using the Audix SCX1/HC for indoor dialogue recording and it has been a great tool. For the money, it is a great investment.

[Black] Coming from using a Rode NTG2 as a dialog mic for short films, the Audix SCX1/HC is an amazing upgrade. Compared to the NTG2, it's night and day. This mic captures clear, almost noise-free dialog. Really all I can say is Wow! It is the real deal for professional quality voice recording. I can't imagine that I'd ever need to replace this with anything else. This is the first piece of video or audio hardware that's ever truly exceeded my high expectations!

[Cardioid] I have only used SCX1-HC on one job so far, but have been using it in testing procedures along with sound devices PRE MIX 6, so my experience with it is limited. As of now it is great sounding Microphone. It's off-axis pick up is not as limited as I expected. My 416 might sound a bit richer and so forth, but using it on interior interviews in poor acoustics I get a echo - that is why I bought the SCX1-HC and it has not been a disappointment. It is a crisp, rich sounding microphone that will cut through music and sfx. So far I have not experienced with any RF problems or any issues, but again I have only used on a limited basis.
I did do research before I made the purchase and sure - there are better microphones out there, for twice the price or 3-4 times the price. In those instances when the project calls for that I always hire a sound person anyway and let them worry about the sound. For simple projects where I want better sounding audio than just using LAV microphones this performs well.
I might also add AUDIX's customer service is great and it is US made which is a plus for support. As always BH has been great to work with and even got me the SCX1-HC quickly though the manufacture.

[Solid-State] I had my doubts about this one since all other recommended hypercardioids are far more expensive, and to be honest I didn't hear about Audix before, but I gave it a shot anyways because I needed a boom mic so badly after I realized NTG3 don't perform as good indoors. It sounds full, way less echo than what I was getting with the NTG3, not flat (Or too much highs) like the sm58 or H6, beautiful lows, I'm even using it t record voice overs too, You get the studio and Radio sound with this mic. The build quality is amazing, the packaging wooden box is luxurious. But I noticed it's really sensitive, so if you're thinking about swinging it from the end of a boom pole than you really need a good blimp or otherwise you'll get those nasty wind clippings, even with the included foam screen.

[Black] After doing a lot of research and really fretting over what the right solution would be for miking (mic'ing?) our small choir, I was convinced to give these mics a try after reading a couple of positive blogs and reviews. Was not disappointed - definitely a good solution when it comes to miking a choir.
