Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Mkh50?

A: No, the Bubblebee Industries The Spacer Bubble Windshield & Fur Cover System for Small-Diaphragm Mics (Black, Extra-Small) is not compatible for use with the Sennheiser MKH 50 Microphone. All of the Spacer Bubble models are designed to fit microphones that have a diameter of 18 to 24mm, but the MKH 50 has a 25mm diameter. As a better option, you can use the Rycote Super-Softie Windshield for Shotgun Mics - 5cm, 24/25 (B&H # RYWSQAT), which is designed to fit mics that have a diameter of 24 to 25mm and it is compatible for use with the MKH 50.

Q: 2. How much more does the Space Bubble reduce wind noise than the Windkiller? 5db? 10db?

A: Bubblebee Industries has not provided a spec for the exact amount of attenuation provided by The Spacer Bubble, likely because this number would be contingent on multiple factors such as wind speed, direction, microphone sensitivity, and so on.

Q: 3. Will the power requirement for this mic be met with a Zoom H5 recorder? What would the setting be? I'm seeing a voltage requirement of 2-5V but the Zoom has settings of 12,24, and 48V for the XLR adapter.

A: You can use the Rode VXLR+ adapter [BH #ROVXLRP] between the Rode Go II and the XLR mic input on the Zoom H5 and it will convert the phantom power on the H5 to the mic plugin power that is needed for the Rode Go II to operate and 12V setting should be fine for that.

Q: 4. Will this work with the OG BMPCC6k?

A: The RODE VideoMic GO II is compatible with any camera that has a 3.5mm microphone input.

Q: 5. Will this work with the AT4053B?

A: Yes, the Bubblebee Industries Windkiller Long Fur Slip-On Wind Protector for 18 to 24mm Mics is compatible for use with the Audio-Technica AT4053b Hypercardioid Condenser Microphone.

Q: 6. Will this work with the Deity S-Mic 2S? (BH #DESMIC2S)

A: The medium-size Bubblebee Industries Windkiller Long Fur Slip-On Wind Protector for 18 to 24mm Mics (Medium, Black) is too long for the Deity Microphones S-Mic 2S Moisture-Resistant Short Shotgun Microphone. The mic is 5.83" long and the inside depth of the windshield is 5". Instead, use the small-size Bubblebee Industries Windkiller Long Fur Slip-On Wind Protector for 18 to 24mm Mics (B&H #BUBBIWKS), which has an inside depth of 4".

Q: 7. Whats the difference between long and short hair?

A: The simple answer is that a windshield with longer hair can provide better protection for the microphone against wind noise in very strong wind because the longer hair and varying lengths can help to slow down the wind's speed before it reaches the mic. A windshield with shorter hair generally works very well to protect the microphone against wind noise in low- to mid-level wind. Additionally, the shorter hair allows a microphone to retain more of its original frequency response.

Q: 8. How long is the outer length of the Large size Spacer Bubble Windshield with Fur Cover?

A: The total length of the Bubblebee Industries BBI-SB is about 6.5 inches.

Q: 9. Will this work for the Rode NTG-3?

A: Yes, the Bubblebee Industries Windkiller Long Fur Slip-On Wind Protector for 18 to 24mm Mics (Large, Black) is compatible with the Rode NTG3 Shotgun Microphone.

Q: 10. Whats the difference between long hair and the short one?

A: The simple answer is that a windshield with longer hair can provide better protection for the microphone against wind noise in very strong wind because the longer hair and varying lengths can help to slow down the wind's speed before it reaches the mic. A windshield with shorter hair generally works very well to protect the microphone against wind noise in low- to mid-level wind. Additionally, the shorter hair allows a microphone to retain more of its original frequency response.

[Red] The Bubblebee Windshield w/ short fur worked fabulously with my Cmit 5u. I took it on job in the woods & it canceled the breeze completely. It did not muffle whispering dialog at all (actually seemed to enhance it). I thought the price was more than reasonable compared to competitors price. Strongly recommend!

[Faux Fur] I started doing a number of exterior interviews and was relying solely on lavs placed inside shirts. That was successful. But I was hanging a shotgun mike as well and had wind noise with even the slightest breeze.

Bought the Bubblebee unit and looked at a weather app to see which day that week was the windiest. Went to my local park on that day where breezes come up the hill briskly from the Hudson River. In 20 mph wind there was absolutely no problem. Clean sound.

[1] Found out on a Thursday that my Saturday shoot to wrap up a short film was going to be super windy. So I paid the extra $15ish for overnight shipping and got it before noon the next day. Worked great for the conditions we were in. DaVinci's vocal isolation helped get rid of the sound we picked up of the trees, crops, etc. but thanks to this baby we were able to pick up all the dialog we needed to get without any issues.

[Faux Fur] Works great on wind and is so fast to deploy and light weight. Love it.

[Red] Using this with the 416 and it simply rocks. Boom pole noise is almost totally resolved when moving. The short fur is good enough for most situations.

[Faux Fur] VERY TRANSPARENT! GREAT PROTECTION FROM MILD BREEZES TO SLIGHTLY STRONGER WIND!

[Red] Last day of shooting on a short film today (Saturday) and I saw on Thursday that we were going to get a lot of wind, and boy did we! Fortunately I bought this and paid the $15ish for expedited delivery and it arrived Friday morning.

We had some pretty powerful gusts, but this thing did a great job of dealing with that. Of course you can still hear the wind on the trees, crops, etc. but I'm not hearing much that's effecting the mic itself. Still able to record dialog just fine. DaVinci Resolve's vocal isolation feature is doing quite a bit to help clear the background noise out, but without this cover I doubt there would have been much dialog for the program to be able to isolate.
