Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this be mounted without the shock mount onto a regular surface mount XLR Female (like the Neutrik NA3FDM)?

A: Yes, the Shure MX418S 18" Supercardioid Gooseneck Microphone with Preamp should be capable of mounting directly to a sturdy, compatible 3-Pin XLR female connection without the included flange mount.

Q: 2. Will this work on a standard PA system or does it require a pre-amp?

A: This can connect to a standard XLR mic connection on a mixer. The mixer must provide 48v phantom power to run.

Q: 3. Does this microphone have a mute button feature?

A: I know this is an older question but you alter how the push button functions, so it comes from the factory as push to mute, but you can alter it to be also be push to talk or push on/off, you just open the base and slide the tiny little switch to the desired setting.

Q: 4. On/off switch?

A: There is not an on/off switch. It would need to either be unplugged or, preferably, muted (or turned all the way down) at the soundboard, for it to not be on. Also, this requires phantom power to operate. But all of those things are very deliberate and appropriate. Generally speaking, no mic in this class of mics anywhere has an on/off switch. Why? Because this mic is much more powerful and sensitive than a standard hand-held mic. And it is designed for picking up singers or instruments that are just out of reach to the mic anyways.. .and the act of a person just touching the mic, in a higher volume application, will easily cause a thumping sound noticeable to the audience. Again, rightly so. This is NOT suppose to have a person's mouth just a an inch or two away. That is not what this mic is for. It is for (a) recording a group of voices/instruments that are a few feet away, not inches away... so it picks up sounds that are further away than a hand held vocal mic will so. To do that, it is much more sensitive and shouldn't be touched during operation. If you have to move it during a performance, then the sound person should mute it at the soundboard during the move, your you'll hear lots of popping and cracking noises. That all being said, this is all the way it is suppose to work... if any of these things were not true, the mic wouldn't be able to accomplish its main missions very well. It does what it was designed to do VERY well at a GREAT price for the excellent quality of mic this is. i've used several of these for years and have been very happy with them.

Q: 5. Does this lamp dim from red to white?

A: Yes, the Littlite LW-12-LED Gooseneck Desk Light has a built-in dimmer which would provide smooth transitioning from the low-power red mode into the white mode, allowing you to choose your preferred blend of red and white light depending on your lighting needs.

Q: 6. Will this lamp work without the power supply attached? Does it have a built-in battery?

A: No, the Littlite LW-12-LED Gooseneck Desk Light will not work without the power supply, and it does not have a built-in battery. The light fixture requires AC power from the included 110 VAC power supply.

Q: 7. what color is the LED?

A: The LED ring on the AKG GN30E5 12" Gooseneck turns red when the mic is active.

Q: 8. Any idea how to store and transport several of these (we have 12)? I can't find any case made specifically for gooseneck microphones, at this point thinking of just buying multiple large hardshell cases and cutting out foam to somewhat fit them, not ideal or cheap but can't think of any other solution.

A: I don't really know. Ours came in a slim box and the mic was wrapped in bubble wraps.

Q: 9. Can I connect it to my laptop?

A: This condenser goose neck mic can be used with a computer with the addition of an audio interface, such as the Focusrite Scarlett Solo 2x2 USB Audio Interface (3rd Generation), BH #FOSCARSOLO3G. The audio interface can provide the necessary 48 volt phantom power that the mic requires, as well as convert the analog signal into a digital signal, which then conects via the included USB cable to your computer.

Q: 10. Is the base threaded?

A: It is and will attach to any standard mic stand.

[End Address] Like most Shure products, this lecturn mic behaves as advertised right out of the box without any fuss. There are a number of configurations of the same basic unit and it is worth taking the time to be sure you understand the various choices before ordering. But the descriptions are clear and detailed once you get to the comparison page of the online catalog and the range of options will cover a wide variety of situations. This is a versitile professional product at a reasonable price.

[Cardioid] The microphone was fairly simple to install--either had to drill a 7/8 or a 1-3/4 hole in the pulpit to establish a firm holder, but the hardware was there and the microphone works very well.

[2.37 lb] These are great mics. I use them at board meetings and when people lean back after long meetings, I can still hear them. Also they are resistant to feedback. I bought 15 and feel they are great. I also enjoy the functionality of the switch and how it is a cough switch by default.

[Cardioid] This foam screen really addressed the problem for us, we are actually using it with Audio Technica mic which was really sensitive to plosives but with this screen the issue is solved. You can blow directly in to the mic and no longer get a nasty pop.
