Pairing an exceptionally wide field of view with the ability to correct for perspective distortion, the Sony E-mount Laowa 15mm f/4.5R Zero-D Shift Lens Sony E Mountfrom Laowa 15mm f/4.5R Zero-D Shift Lens Sony E Mountis an ideal lens for architecture and interior applications. The broad 110° angle of view is complemented by an impressive +/- 11mm shift range to compensate for unwanted converging lines and keystone distortion. This shift control is further complemented by a 360° rotation mechanism applying the movements in various directions for to suit both horizontal and vertical orientation shooting. Additionally, as part of the Zero-D lens series, this 15mm f/4.5 also renders scenes with a high degree of accuracy and very low distortion.

In terms of optics, two aspherical elements and three extra-low dispersion elements are featured, which reduce both spherical and chromatic aberrations for high sharpness and clarity. An anti-reflective coating also helps to control flare and ghosting for heightened contrast and color rendering. The lens uses a manual focus design for working with subjects as close a 7.9" away and the 14-blade diaphragm creates outstanding sunstars when working at higher apertures.

As part of the Zero-D series, this lens has a rectilinear design that renders subjects with minimal distortion in order to suit architectural, interior, and landscape applications.

Integrated +/- 11mm of shift adjustment helps to correct perspective distortion and eliminate keystone distortion.

Upgraded 14-blade diaphragm creates outstanding sunstars when working at higher apertures and improves the quality of out-of-focus areas.

Large 65mm-diameter image circle easily covers full-frame sensors without any vignetting.

The shift control works in conjunction with 360° of rotation for applying the shift in various directions, benefitting switching between vertical and horizontal shooting orientations, and the rotation mechanism has click stops at 15° increments for intuitive handling.

Two aspherical elements limit spherical aberrations and distortion for improved sharpness and accurate rendering.

Three extra-low dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for increased clarity and color neutrality.

Updated anti-reflective coating suppresses flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.

Manual focusing design and a minimum focusing distance of 7.9" suits working with close-up subjects.

Compatible with optional Shift Lens Support for more balanced mounting and to better enable using the lens for shift-type stitched panorama shooting without parallax error.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does this lens come with a hood?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4.5R Zero-D Shift for L Mount does not include a lens hood.

Q: 2. How would using an optical shift lens (like this one) compare to using perspective crop in photoshop with a wider lens like the Laowa 11mm? I'm asking because they're about the same price but the 11mm could be more versatile and I don't trust myself to perfectly frame photos in the field.

A: Though the 11mm would be a wider view, the distortion would be an issue and harder to work with in post. I would recommend the 15mm Zero-D especially if you are doing interiors due to the fact that if you need a wider view, you can stitch two images and it would still be easier than using the 11mm and trying to correct properly.

Q: 3. I am very curious about the final bullet in the lens overview: "Compatible with optional Shift Lens Support for more balanced mounting and to better enable using the lens for shift-type stitched panorama shooting without parallax error." Is there an additional shift option?

A: The shift lens support (https://bhpho.to/36d359d) doesn't offer any additional shifting of the lens plane, but allows mounting via the lens, allowing for an easier time with parallax correction during multi-stitch panoramas.

Q: 4. Can the F mount work with the Nikon Z F-mount Adapter?

A: Yes, you may use the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4.5R Zero-D Shift Lens for Nikon F with the Nikon FTZ II adapter.

Q: 5. For EF mount, is the aperture set on the lens or in-camera?

A: The aperture would be set on the lens and the camera would need to be in manual mode.

Q: 6. Is this lens compatible with the Canon teleconverter?

A: No, this is not compatible with a teleconverter. Typically by design, teleconverters only fit on super-telephoto lenses and not wide-angle/ultra-wide lenses.

Q: 7. Is this lens adaptable to a GH5?

A: Unfortunately, this lens cannot be adapted to the Panasonic GH5.

Q: 8. the teleconverters do work on the canon 17mm, 24mm tilt shift lenses so are you saying they do not work on the Laowa?

A: Canon only recommends the use of their teleconverters on specific L-series telephoto lenses, and attempting to connect them to a lens for which it is not designed may damage the front element on the teleconverter, the rear element on the lens, or both. We cannot test and cannot confirm if the Canon teleconverter may be used with this lens. If you own a Canon teleconverter, you may try to test it at your own risk, but do note that damage to either item would not be covered by either Canon or Venus Optics.

Q: 9. Can this lens be used with the Laowa Magic Format Converter for Canon EF to Fuji GFX?

A: Yes, the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4.5 Zero-D Shift Lens for Canon EF would be compatible for use with the Venus Optics Laowa Magic Format Converter for Canon EF to Fuji GFX.

Q: 10. does B&H sell a filter system for the Laowa 15mm shift lens?

A: For the Venus Optics Laowa 15mm f/4.5R Zero-D Shift Lens for Sony E Mount there is the Venus Optics H&Y 100mm Magnetic Filter Holder Set for 15mm f/4.5 Zero-D Shift Lens, BH #VEFILHOF1545 (https://bhpho.to/3TwYYfk).

[Manual Focus] The Laowa 15mm Shift Lens is capable of making great images. It is fully manual with no automation.
You need to set the aperture manually, it does not communicate with the camera body at all. Focus is manual, there are no focus contacts on the lens. The focus scale printed on the lens is off so don't plan on using that. With all that said at F8 & F11 the picture quality is excellent. My copy has no color fringing and is sharp.

To set the focus I used Liveview on a Nikon DSLR and with some trial & error determined the hyper-focus settings and then marked them on the lens barrel with a pen. With hyper-focus set at F11 the lens will produce photos with sharp focus from about 3' to infinity.

The parallel and horizontal lines stay straight, great for architectural work. The shift function is performed differently than any of my other shift lenses, with a twist of the barrel, that works well.

It's definitely a lens to use with a tripod. It is a challenge to use but worth the effort. I really like the end results.

[15mm] I wasn't crazy about the price, but once I put it on my a7s, I was very happy. Sharp. Minimal distortion. And though I keep seeing people say it doesn't matter on a wide angle lens, the bokeh is gorgeous. Oh and a UWA with a 72mm filter thread...awesome!

This is going to replace my 14mm Bower that I've flown FOREVER. I gave the 16-35's a quick look, but they seem even more over priced. Plus there's always something special about a prime. I recommend. Happy shooting!

[15mm] I purchased this lens to replace my Sony 12-24 f/4 because that lens was just not quite fast enough for my needs which generally includes a lot of night photography. The lens has acceptable levels of coma, which is really important to me. It is also very easy to use and handle. Lastly, I really appreciate the super close minimum focus distance for grand scenic landscapes where you want to include something very close to to the lens in the foreground (like flowers). All-in-all, this lens is a great choice for Sony full-frame users.

[110°] I use this on my Fuji GFX 50sii and it works very well. Covers the sensor and provides sharp results. I love this lens and would recommend it.

At least at this time.

[Manual Focus] This lens is sharp, the aperture is large, and the focus ring feels smooth and easy to operate. Will definitelyrecommend it.

[Manual Focus] This is a sharp tool for a particular purpose, but once mastered there are many ways to apply it. It is an extreme wide-angle (equivalent to 12mm full-frame) lens with very little edge distortion, and nearly all of the field of view is in focus if you want that. The controls are smooth, precise, easy to reach, and ENTIRELY manual. There aren’t any electronics in the lens, so you must use the camera’s electronics to assess the light coming through the lens.

I used to adore the Canon 17mm T/S lens when I could borrow one, but this lens satisfies that need. It was designed for the GFX, so no vignetting in the corners! I can get into scenes I could not cover before.

[2.65 lb] I first bought a used copy and ended up returning it as it was really soft even at f11. Purchased a new one and this thing is tack sharp all the way out to the edges even with a 11mm shift. It is quickly becoming one of my favorite lens.

[2.65 lb] The lens is well made and sharp enough

[Manual Focus] Brings back the days when every shot had to be hand-focused ... many young photographers reject manual lenses out of hand, but I regard autofocus as a frill. The lens itself is great ... very sharp, minimal distortion, and you can add filters, which is unusual for 15mm glass. And compared to virtually every other lens made for the Nikon Z series so far, it's affordable! Highly recommended.
