[White] The Op-1 has managed to recreate a process that is immediately familiar to veteran musicians; the multitrack tape recorder. Lots of small, digital stand-alone multitrack recorders exist but, although the knobs and transport buttons remain in the traditional configuration, these devices could not seem to harness the same tactile and aesthetic feel of the real thing. The OP-1 has achieved this. The elegance of the design, both in the tactile elements AND the OLED readout have yanked the analog tradition from the jaws of the digital world. Once you learn the interface, you'll be aching to get a few minutes with the device, even if you don't have something in mind, musically. You'll just want to use it. Can't say that for most software-based recording solutions. Anyway, it's built like a tank, and has everything you need to create music, right on board; multiple synth engines, drum machines, a robust sample engine (allowing external audio, on-board mic, on-board FM radio and re-sampling), 4-track recorder, 2 mix down platters, FX and LFO, and multiple sequencers. But the simple fact is, you'll WANT to use it. This is the greatest endorsement I can think of. Well worth the price point.

[0.035 lb] It's price premium, but it's premium. The battery lasts forever allowing you to really take it and not worry about it. Plus it has so much utility it can do almost anything.

[Ripstop] I've avoided buying this for a long time, it is pricey, but it's a great product and there's nothing like it in the market. If you want something portable that can work well as mixer, effect unit, 12 channel interface, you won't find anything else like it.

[0.035 lb] Very happy with this new version of the OP-1 Field. There are so many improvements compared with the OG but here are my favorite features.

Sound Quality

- The OG sounded very digital/lo-fi. The Field sounds hi-fi and so much better; even all the older instruments sound great.

New Synth and Effect

- Dimension synth (traditional subtractive synth engine) was something that was missing from the OG and is a very welcome and useful addition
- Mother reverb sounds lush and phenomenal
- The old spring reverb also now sounds amazing in 32bit audio.

Connectivity

Connectivity has been significantly improved. Make all kinds of connections with other gear with the Field. Very liberating.
Here are some I have tried:

- Midi over Bluetooth both ways
- Connect Midi hardware via USB and the Field acts as a midi host; I connected my LaunchPad Pro mk3 to play Field patches with velocity sensitivity and sequence drums
- Connect an iPad over USB-C and send audio from the iPad to the OP-1sampler

- Connect a high quality USB microphone to the OP-1 and record my guitar to the tape tracks
- It really feels like a portable DAW or studio now

Build Quality
The OG was already one of the most premium and beautiful instruments I have owned but everything on the Field feels even better.
- Screen looks amazing
- Feels very solid and well put together; knobs feel good, keys are all even
- USB C port

Much of the discussion has been about the price of the Field. I agree it is very expensive. Having it in my hands and using it, it feels like a premium high-quality product. It sounds amazing and can do so much. Here is another way of thinking about it; the OP-1 Field is Teenage Engineering's flagship workstation, it just happens to be very small but very powerful.

[7.3 x 5 x 0.45"] I took a credit card hit. Couldn't afford it but I am simply dazzled by it's sound. A true gem to behold and work with. It's a great upgrade to my coffee table ipad and usb c connected op1 field. The effects alone are worth it for me. The rest are all bonuses.

[White] I really like this little thing. I never had the original OP-1, so this was completely new to me. It's still taking me some time to get used to it, but there's some great tutorial videos on youtube. The sound on it is great. Really cool and unique effects. Lot's of good presets and it's easy enough to customize and save my own.

Some of the limitations, like no undo, actually make me step out of my comfort zone and work harder or come up new ways of doing things that I may not have even tried otherwise. Still, it is a little scary to record live over existing audio sometimes.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the purchase. I really like the MIDI over bluetooth that lets me use it as a wireless midi keyboard and control for FL Studio on my Mac. One of the biggest things I wish was that they had more, and deeper, documentation. It only comes with a tiny little book that covers the basics of everything the synth can do (tons of typos).
