The black LH-48B Lens Hood for M.Zuiko Digital 17mm f/1.8 Lens from Olympus is a metal lens hood designed specifically for the above mentioned 17mm f/1.8 lens. The primary purpose of a lens hood is to deflect unwanted light from entering the lens and producing flare. It can also provide a degree of protection for the lens from accidental impact and the elements. A dedicated lens hood is designed specifically for the focal length of its lens and provides enough extension to deflect light without intruding on the image frame.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I have a 37mm filter on mine. How does the thumbscrew work? And why does it say 46mm screw in hood if the lens only accepts a 37mm filter????Thanks

A: The hood attaches around the filter. The thumb screw pushes a semicircle band inside the diameter of the hood applying even pressure to hold it on. Its basically a clamp.

Q: 2. Is this hood metal or plastic?

A: The Olympus LH-40B hood is constructed from plastic.

Q: 3. Does it have manual focus as well as auto? Am looking for a 17-20mm lens for a panasonic micro four thirds that can also be focused manually (in low light), and it appears that the panasonic offerings cannot.

A: Yes, both manual and auto focus. It's an excellent lens.

Q: 4. Can this be used on other Olympus lens with 46mm filter thread?

A: It fits well on my Olympus 12mm f2 lens as well as the 17mm f1.8. Have not tried it on other lenses.

Q: 5. What I'm really looking for is a lens hood for the Olympus 17mm f2.8 lens, not the the f1.8. Does anyone know if there is one for that lens? Thanks

A: B&H has several 37mm screw-in lens hoods... the Heliopan 71037H would surely work, but I think I'd try the General Brand 37mm Collapsible Rubber Lens Hood first. 17mm field of view isn't all THAT wide, and the rubber hoods collapse if they cause vignetting, but will still provide some protection from off-axis light.

Q: 6. In manual focus mode, does the focus ring have a hard stop at infinity, or does it keep turning past infinity?

A: Yes in manual focus this has a hard stop at infinity.

Q: 7. I have the M.Zuiko 25mm f1.8 and the lens says it is a 46. The spec sheet also says it is a 46. Is this for and older 25? Mine was made 2013.

A: Olympus only has one (1) Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f/1.8 Lens (Black),B&H # OL2518MB. The above lens does have 46mm front filter threads. The Olympus LH-49B Hood for M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f/1.8 Lens (Black), B&H # OLLH49BB, is the original replacement lens hood designed for use with and included with the purchase of the aforementioned Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f/1.8 Lens.

Q: 8. Does this fit with the panasonic lumix gx7?

A: I'm not a owner of a Panasonic camera, but I'm sure it does fit, as both Panasonic and Olympus use the same micro four thirds mounting system. So you can use Olympus lenses and I can use Pany lenses on my OM-D camera.

Q: 9. What I am looking for is a full cap that I can put over the lens hood - not a cap for the lens. Can anyone suggest one that will fit the Olympus LH-48B?

A: I don't see a traditional lens cap staying on the inside of this hood as the edge is smooth. You can try one of those neoprene lens hats from Op/Tech that would stretch over the entire lens hood.

Q: 10. How does the lens hood go onto the lens? I cannot get it to fit at all.

A: You need to remove the ring that is around the front of the lens. Just unscrew it and remove it and the hood will fit just fine.

[46 mm] This is a very high quality, well designed product that I am truly impressed with. Obviously the designers are or had input from real photographers. A joy to use and substantial enough for my Oly OM-1 with the 40-150mm Pro lens and then some. The case is included and is equally of high quality and utility. The CF-422 is probably a little light for stabilty in strong winds but it is a travel tripod after all. An easy '5 stars' from me.

[0.145 lb] It helps with flare when outside and it's all metal, what else could you want from a hood? I'd rather have it than go without.

[46 mm] Bought this to protect and enhance the 17mm f/1.8. I was surprised by the quality, fit and finish of this lens hood. It reminded me of my Leica gear. Works well with the built-in flash - does not create any shadows. Does not add much bulk. It's totally reasonable on an E-P3 and still balances well. Although it fits snug, it can be loosened very easily and in fact I dropped it the first time I tried to take it off - so be careful. It only takes a very slight turn of the knob. Speaking of the locking knob, it's really big and unsightly and depending on how you position it around the lens, it can get in the way.

[46 mm] It's a well constructed lens hood. When I mounted it on my 17mm lens, I had to remove a small plastic ring on the lens that was in the way, but once mounted, the hood is secure. It tightens with a knob, which I put on the bottom. I also have the 12mm with the square lens hood, and by having a round lens hood on the 17, it makes it easier to identify and grab the lens out of my bag.

[0.145 lb] Its a very nice all metal lens hood that is relatively expensive. Attaches easily with the set screw and appears to be very well made.

[46 mm] Like the OM-D E-M5 MkII and 17mm lens it fits on, this is just a high quality piece of merchandise. Expensive, but it looks and feels like it.

[0.145 lb] This is the original, metal lens hood for the Olympus 17mm Prime lens. B&H had it at a very competitive price, and they are quick to ship. Used to reduce lens flare in wide angle shots, especially with this prime lens. Low profiel and easy to use, it's great for walk around, street photography use, as well.

[46 mm] Very surprised with the tightening screw on the lens hood. Looks good with the Pen F. Love the quality. Yeah, it is a bit of a hassle, but I love it!

[0.145 lb] looks like it finishes the looks of the 17mm lens, heavy metal, probably works, using a lens hood is part of the Lens.
