Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What I am looking for is a full cap that I can put over the lens hood - not a cap for the lens. Can anyone suggest one that will fit the Olympus LH-48B?

A: I don't see a traditional lens cap staying on the inside of this hood as the edge is smooth. You can try one of those neoprene lens hats from Op/Tech that would stretch over the entire lens hood.

Q: 2. Is this an Olympus OEM lens cap or is it made by a different manufacturer??

A: Yes this lens cap is made by Olympus.

Q: 3. does this fit om-d e-m5 ? if so why it doesn't appear on the accessories list ?

A: Yes, this lens is Micro Four Thirds Mount so fits on my E-M5 (as well as my other MFT camera bodies) without any problems. Not sure why it doesn't appear on the accessories list.

Q: 4. I want to purchase the panasonic gh4 mainly for documentary purposes but also for some occasional photography. I wanted to get an opinion about which lens I should buy first. I am debating between the Olympus 25mm f1.8 and the 17mm 71.8? I am not so worry about the price diference. I just want to make sure that I get a great lens that I can use for everyday use.

A: I have the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 as well as a Panasonic (Leica) 25mm f/1.4. The 17mm is my social lens. I use it for family gatherings, vacations, parties, and just hanging out. I have always liked the 35mm equivalent focal length for this kind of shooting. The 25mm gets more use when I am out intentionally looking for art. The 25mm contributes more pictures to my portfolio; the 17mm gets me more of my favorite snapshots. Buts that's just the way I shoot. Both lenses make fine pictures.

Q: 5. Regarding the focus ring, if the ring is pulled back and set to 5ft Red 5 number), what does that mean in terms of the f-stops and focus length. Does that mean that anything within 5ft at f5.6-f/22 will be in focus -or- what? Any tips are appreciated!

A: Yes that does mean that anything within 5 feet at any f-stop will remain in focus.

Q: 6. I've read that this hood attaches via a thumb screw -- Can it be reversed on the lens for easy storage and if so, is it securely attached in the reverse position or is the screw still required when it's in the reversed position?

A: Yes. The hood can be reversed for the storage. The screw is used to secure the hood in the reverse position. Since the screw does not protrude beyond the outside diameter of the hood, it is not an issue. It can store comfortably in a snug fitting neoprene lens bag.

Q: 7. Does this work with the M.ZUIKO 12-40 2.8 lens? The orighinal cap was LC-62D.

A: Yes. I have the same and the lens cap broke. This one works.

Q: 8. What I'm really looking for is a lens hood for the Olympus 17mm f2.8 lens, not the the f1.8. Does anyone know if there is one for that lens? Thanks

A: B&H has several 37mm screw-in lens hoods... the Heliopan 71037H would surely work, but I think I'd try the General Brand 37mm Collapsible Rubber Lens Hood first. 17mm field of view isn't all THAT wide, and the rubber hoods collapse if they cause vignetting, but will still provide some protection from off-axis light.

Q: 9. I have a 37mm filter on mine. How does the thumbscrew work? And why does it say 46mm screw in hood if the lens only accepts a 37mm filter????Thanks

A: The hood attaches around the filter. The thumb screw pushes a semicircle band inside the diameter of the hood applying even pressure to hold it on. Its basically a clamp.

Q: 10. In manual focus mode, does the focus ring have a hard stop at infinity, or does it keep turning past infinity?

A: Yes in manual focus this has a hard stop at infinity.

[Front] Nice metal lens hood that is well constructed. Can be reversed for storage and fast to install with the clamp screw. A little tight using the manual clutch with it installed, but that is not the fault of the hood, just a short lens. I like the clamping method better than the twist type plastic hoods; I feel like I might break those where they mount. Like everyone else, why aren't these supplied with the lens? I got one with my 14-150 kit lens.

[Slip-On] It's a well constructed lens hood. When I mounted it on my 17mm lens, I had to remove a small plastic ring on the lens that was in the way, but once mounted, the hood is secure. It tightens with a knob, which I put on the bottom. I also have the 12mm with the square lens hood, and by having a round lens hood on the 17, it makes it easier to identify and grab the lens out of my bag.

[0.1 lb] This is a very high quality, well designed product that I am truly impressed with. Obviously the designers are or had input from real photographers. A joy to use and substantial enough for my Oly OM-1 with the 40-150mm Pro lens and then some. The case is included and is equally of high quality and utility. The CF-422 is probably a little light for stabilty in strong winds but it is a travel tripod after all. An easy '5 stars' from me.

[4 x 3.25 x 1.5"] I often use the 17mm when shooting in a crowds such as fairs and public markets. Although a hood protects the lens from sun and light rain, my primary interest is protecting the lens from minor bumps. The lens hood is made of metal and it attaches securely providing much better protection than plastic third party hoods. At the same time it is quite light. One thing that the product photos do not show is that the hood mounts on the lens barrel and locks in place with using a thumbscrew, similar to the hoods for some of the other Olympus prime lenses. It is a very secure system.

[4 x 3.25 x 1.5"] Its a very nice all metal lens hood that is relatively expensive. Attaches easily with the set screw and appears to be very well made.

[48 mm] Very surprised with the tightening screw on the lens hood. Looks good with the Pen F. Love the quality. Yeah, it is a bit of a hassle, but I love it!

[48 mm] I got this cap for one of my older Olympus lenses, and it looks beautiful on it. It has velvet inside the rim just like the older metal push on caps, and it feels very nice!

[0.1 lb] It helps with flare when outside and it's all metal, what else could you want from a hood? I'd rather have it than go without.

[48 mm] this lens cap reminds me of using Leica stuff; functional, nice looking, the way a lens cap should be, not nocked off when carried. Deep enough for a filter to be hidden with the cap on. Metal ! I use the cap that matches this one on the 75mm too. Use either the lens cap or the lens shade not both, the 75mm is the same.

[Front] looks like it finishes the looks of the 17mm lens, heavy metal, probably works, using a lens hood is part of the Lens.
