Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will this work with the LUMIX GH-5?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens for Micro Four Thirds is compatible with Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 .

Q: 2. Would the L mount version of this lens clear the grip on the Lumix S1 or S5?

A: Unfortunately this lens will see the handgrip of Panasonic Lumix S1.

Q: 3. If I zoom in with this lens on my nikon z30 will the vignetting get smaller and be in the corners?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens for Nikon Z is for Nikon Z cameras with an APS-C size sensor, including the Nikon Z30 Mirrorless Camera. The lens does produce a circular image. This is not a zoom lens; you could crop out the black border in post but will end up with a small file.

Q: 4. does this work on C70?

A: Yes, the Meike 10mm T2.2 Cine Lens (RF Mount) is compatible with the Canon C70.

Q: 5. good for Cannon EOS 60D???

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens for Micro Four Thirds is only compatible with Olympus and Panasonic cameras. It is not compatible with Canon cameras.

Q: 6. does this lens work with Sony A7rii mirrorless?

A: Yes, it will work but this is for a cropped sensor camera (aps-c) so you will be using about 40% of the sensor on the A7r2 and reducing resolution by about 40%.

Q: 7. Is it compatible with BMPCC4K? In case not, is there any adaptor?

A: Yes. The Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K, B&H # BL4KPKCAM, uses the Micro Four Thirds lens mount, and the Venus Optics Laowa 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens for Micro Four Thirds uses the Micro Four Thirds lens mount, you may use the Venus Optics Laowa 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens for Micro Four Thirds on the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. Do note that the Venus Optics Laowa 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens for Micro Four Thirds is a fully manual lens, so you would have to focus the lens manually and adjust the aperture of the lens using the aperture ring built onto the lens.

Q: 8. how would this lens perform on a FX Z mount?

A: Venus Optics Laowa 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens for Nikon Z will work on an FX Z mount camera. However since it is an apsc lens the circular image will be very small in the frame. You can crop in later but the resolution will be much lower.

Q: 9. Does this lens make a full circular image on a MFT sensor?

A: It is not quite a full circle. Please take a look at the sample images.

Q: 10. I will use that lens on a Fujifilm x-T2. I understood that the resultant image will be fully or partially circular, with a black part alla around. I will use it for panoramic and get rid of the black part. What will be the megapixel size of the usable part (24mp minus the black) ? Thanks

A: When using the Venus Optics Laowa 4mm f/2.8 Fisheye Lens for FUJIFILM X, your useable megapixel size will be about 30% less (approx 16 MP).

[f/4] Use this lens on M5.3. M10.2 as and M1.2 Works well. Good images. Everything I would expect from this lens.

[f/4] I bought a used copy, arrived in amazing condition just as advertised by B&H. I can't quit buying lenses from Ttartisan. Vintage nostalgia meets modern quality every time. I keep coming back to them over much more expensive glass because they produce photos that feel authentic and almost magic. If you are looking for incredibly sharp or soft and dreamy this lens gives you both and everything in between. It is almost exactly a standard 35mm on aps-c, and I couldn't love it more. If you lobe the art of photography you have nothing to lose at this price. You won't be disappointed.

[Canon RF] Great build and image quality. It's wide (and m4/3), so manual focusing is no problem. In low light use MF assist and focus peaking at f/2. In bright light use f/8 and good old-fashioned zone focusing.

[0.15x] For the price, just can’t beat it. Has a softer, filmic look to it.

[0.15x] Keep in mind you're getting this lens because it's a pancake, not because it's the best 10mm out there. This perfectly filled the need I had for an ultra-wide lens easy to pocket while hiking. 3D pop is good, colors are very saturated, makes nice sun stars, and is sufficiently sharp. It has extreme vignetting at every aperture, but that's the price you pay for the size. It's a quick fix in any decent editing software. Bonus points to Laowa for offering it in silver too.

[0.15x] I am a Retired Senior amateur photograph using an Olympus OMD EM 5 Mark III camera. I had recently purchased a TTArtisan 35mm 1.4 lens and was so impressed with it in performance, color, bokeh, sharpness that I had to try the 23mm as well. Both perform outstandingly well and are a joy to use. How lenses of this quality can be sold at such low prices is beyond my understanding but I am tickled that I can get such outstanding images with them.
Being both manual focus lenses, they offer the opportunity to slow down and take you time getting the image right. I use focus peaking and magnification to get fine tuned sharp images. I just finished doing Portraits for a Sit with Santa and set the 35mm at f2.5 and all turned out exceptional. You can get very close with this lens and the bokeh is very pleasing. A great buy for new photographers wanting to try out prime lenses and manual focus. Highly recommended !

[APS-C] Great fun, huge field of view and no more distortion that a fisheye inevitably has. Worth even the full price. Just remember to keep your own thumbs and shoes out of the picture! (Others have complained that grips and batteries intrude - that’s a feature of a 210 degree coverage, not a bug - you can’t blame the lens for the not overriding the laws of optics!)

[Manual Focus] Just got into the m43 ecosystem and this lens was a big factor for my 'compact system' choice. I love this focal length, and this one ticks all the boxes for me: fast, small, sharp, great build quality. Did I say sharp? Even at f2, I'm amazed how good this lens is even to the corners. I certainly got a good copy. The distortion is absolutely negligible. While vignetting wide open is heavy, it's very broad with no abrupt changes, so in real world images it's not objectionable. More like middle hot spot than dark edges. Its minimum focus distance is also very close.

There are several minor complaints but nothing that's a deal breaker. The hood can't be taken on or off with the lens cap on. Wish the mount alignment dot was on the side of the lens and not the flange so it's easier to see.

Overall, I'm very impressed.

[Canon RF] A short addition to my previous review. I just began shooting a short film, and this lens is absolutely incredible for cinematography as well!!!!

[5] I bought one of these with the electronic contacts to transfer data to my Olympus bodies. It's still manual focus, but focus peaking works with mine so focusing is effortless.

Sharpness was a delightful surprise. Of course it's not spectacular in the extreme corners at f/2. But it's useable! And by f/2.8 it's very good. Optimum is around f/4 (actually a little better than my Panasonic 8-18).

If you are able to look at uncorrected files, you'll see Laowa's claim of zero distortion is pretty close to true. And not having to do all that distortion correction probably helps the edges and corners a lot. I did try two copies, and one was better than the other, but both were really good. Don't know anything about video but if you want an ultra wide for stills, I reccomend this lens.
