The Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Lens for Nikon Zis a compact 35mm-equivalent lens for Z-Mount. With its bright f/1.2 maximum aperture that suits working in a wide range of lighting conditions, this all-metal, manual focus lens delivers outstanding optical performance and precise focusing action while keeping size and weight to a minimum. To achieve this, Voigtlander make use of two low-dispersion glass elements and one aspherical element, as well as a metal helicoid unit that has undergone specific quality control processes.

Despite its mechanical design the lens fully supports communication with digital camera bodies and will be compatible with a number of features that rely on this interface. A rounded 12-blade diaphragm ensures the bokeh remains pleasingly circular at all apertures and is controlled by a built-in aperture ring.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Will Focus-peaking still work on an X-pro2 despite the "data communication unsupported" tag?

A: Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens for FUJIFILM X focus peaking still works even on cameras that are not supported.

Q: 2. Is there focusing tab that can be purchased to attach to the focus ring of this lens?

A: We are sorry. There is no focusing tab that can be purchased to attach to the focus ring of this lens.

Q: 3. Can you insert (screw-in) 46mm filter inside the hood, OR you must install filter then screw-in filter on the filter thread?

A: When using the Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens for Nikon Z with a filter and lens hood at the same time, you should screw in the filter onto the lens, use a filter that has front filter threads, then screw the lens hood onto the filter. It is not recommended to attach a filter to the front of the lens hood as that might create vignetting.

Q: 4. Will it work with Nikon D500 body?

A: No, only Leica M series cameras.

Q: 5. Does this lens have Image Stabilization?

A: Unfortunately, the Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens for FUJIFILM X does not have image stabilization.

Q: 6. Is the Z version weather sealed?

A: The Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens is not weather sealed.

Q: 7. What’s the max resolution this lens can resolve?

A: The Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.2 Lens (FUJIFILM X) is very good lens. The manufacture does not list the actual resolving power of the lens. And there does not seem to be reviews testing it for that.

Q: 8. I meant to ask if the contacts allowed focus peaking on the X-E3 and not focus stacking?

A: Yes, focus peaking will be available using this lens.

Q: 9. Is this a 23mm or a 35mm? The listing shows both.

A: The focal length of the Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens for Nikon Z is 23mm. The Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens for Nikon Z is designed for use on Nikon Z-mount cameras that use the smaller 1.5x APS-C sensor. As the Nikon APS-C sensor has a 1.5x crop factor, the Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens for Nikon Z would be the equivalent of a 34.5mm lens on a full-frame sensor as 23mm x 1.5 = 34.5mm (which would round up to the equivalent of a 35mm lens).

Q: 10. For bodies that are listed as "Data Communication Unsupported" like the X-Pro2 and X-E3 I would use the lens with, would the autofocus still work (and possibly aperture reading)? Or would this become a manual focus lens?

A: The Voigtlander Nokton 23mm f/1.2 Aspherical Lens for X-Mount is a manual focus lens that is not capable of autofocus on any camera.

[Manual Focus] This lens is sharp at every aperture, but it has more 'character' than some people might be comfortable with anywhere South of f2.2 or so. The already-thin depth of field is prone to a bit of spherical aberration so there's a hazy look, but fine details like text or the speckled texture of stationery remain discernible.

I've seen some complaints on a certain popular photography forum about field curvature and issues with the focus scale which I haven't observed or been able to replicate, and I suspect my eyes are a lot younger than many of the users there so I'm one to talk. Stopped down past f2.8, this is possibly my sharpest lens, and in line with its more vintage styling, performance at f11 is spectacular and free of diffraction, making it great for zone focus or landscape or any other application where a lot of depth of field is crucial. These days it seems like everyone only cares about wide open performance!

Close focus is a huge strength of this lens, especially having used the Fuji 23mm f2, which produces poor results up close even stopped down. Similar to the 16mm f1.4, it's practically a macro, making it an excellent walk-around lens. Manual focus and aperture ring feel confident and well-constructed. 46mm is a weird filter size (shares with your Nikon L35AF, I guess?) and I can't say I love the lens cap, which has these little wings on the tabs making it so it doesn't sit flat. At this point I'm nitpicking though. If you want a performant 23mm for Fuji (or Nikon), don't mind manual focus, and want something a little cheaper/smaller/less clinical than the Fujilux 23, this is the one. Makes me lust after the APO 35, which I've heard is even better.

[f/1.2] If you want a compact, manual lens that shoots great photos, this is that lens. Not as compact as the 27mm f/2. Not as sharp as the XF 23 f/1.4. Definitely fun

[Yes] I wanted a lens to challenge my creativity. Having a Prime lens with a fast aperture, wide enough for street photography and landscapes, a very, very close minimum focusing distance for small subjects and extremely light weight, this lens meets and exceeds all those expectations.

If you want a lens with autofocus and corner-to-corner sharpness, look elsewhere. If you want to be creative, this lens is a great tool to test your imagination.

[Manual Focus] I bought this lens for street photography, assuming that zone focusing would be a snap. It is not. There is definitely a learning curve. Now that I own it, I find myself using it for other applications, mostly wide open. Focus peaking works flawlessly. It is not a clinically sharp lens like the new Fuji 23mm WR. But it has a lot of character and produces a dreamier image.

[f/1.2] Really pleased with the image quality, build and performance of this lens. It stays in my camera bag now and I use it frequently on the XH2S.

[1:4.9] I shoot professionally with full range of Fuji and Nikon glass but have to say I'm really loving this voigtlander 23mm as my personal go-to all-around lens [on XT-5]. Good edge to edge sharpness wide open; great bokeh; beautiful character....then stop down and get super sharpness and depth; feels like 2 lenses in one. Electronic coupling works well. smooth manual focusing with peak. Nice to have manual scale to zone focus for street photography. Highly recommended.
