Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens Canon EF to RF Adapterlooked to create a peak portrait prime with the 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art Lens, and they delivered an optic with high performance, a large f/1.4 aperture, and a variety of technologies. Available here with a Canon EF mount, this lens offers a super-fast f/1.4 aperture that is great for getting images with an exceptionally shallow depth of field and smooth bokeh. It also uses two SLD elements, one anomalous partial dispersion/high-refractive index element, and one aspherical element that minimize aberrations and ensures a crisp, clear image. A Super Multi-Layer coating helps by suppressing flare and ghosting.

For operation, a Hyper Sonic AF motor provides fast, accurate focusing and a large focusing ring permits manual focus override for making fine adjustments. A rounded 9-blade diaphragm also helps create round, smooth bokeh. It is made from a thermally-stable composite material that is light and durable and it has a brass bayonet mount. Additionally, it is fully compatible with Sigma's USB Dock.

As part of the Art line within Sigma's Global Vision series, this lens' is designed to achieve truly notable optical performance and is ideally suited for creative and artistic applications.

This short telephoto 85mm f/1.4 prime lens is designed for full-frame format Canon EF-mount cameras, and can also be used with APS-C models where it will provide a 136mm equivalent focal length.

Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is well-suited for working in low-light conditions and also provides greater control over the focus position when using shallow depth of field techniques.

Two SLD elements, one element with a high rate of anomalous partial dispersion and a high index of refraction, and one aspherical element have been incorporated within the lens design to correct for chromatic aberrations throughout the entire focusing range and help to ensure high image sharpness, clarity, and contrast regardless of focus point or aperture setting. This optical design also helps to control distortion and limit vignetting.

A Super Multi-Layer Coating has been applied to lens elements in order to minimize lens flare and ghosting and contribute to producing contrast-rich and color-neutral imagery, even in backlit conditions.

The integrated HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) realizes quick and quiet autofocusing, which is further complemented by an optimized AF algorithm to produce smoother focusing performance. The HSM also permits full-time manual focus control simply by rotating the focus ring at any time.

A rounded nine-blade diaphragm helps to produce an attractive out-of-focus quality.

The lens is constructed using a Thermally Stable Composite (TSC) material, along with traditional metals, for greater precision and use in wide temperature variations.

The bayonet mount is constructed from brass for ensured accuracy and durability.

This lens is compatible with the optional Sigma USB Dock for fine-tuning different lens characteristics and updating its firmware.

[86 mm (Front)] Incredibly sharp. Heavy but feels solid and well made.

[0.12x] This lens paired with the 5D Mark IV is a great combo together. Sharp and very quick autofocus. I've never been a Sigma guy, but after watching them step up there game in the industry, I had to rent it first and see for myself self and I was sold. This lens is heavy and doesn't have image stabilization. I love the build quality and I would recommend any portrait/wedding photog to try it!

[Canon EF] It is noticeably crisper than my Nikkor d of the same focal length. The very wide aperture allows me to shoot with limited depth of focus. It is a large and expensive lens but well worth it to me.

[28.6°] Great, great lens. This lens competes favorably with the best that Canon makes. Its just a lens that you want to shoot and shoot and shoot. Beautiful color and depth. Heavy but who cares when the images are superb.

[f/1.4] I purchased this lens through B&H during their Black Friday sale, so I also received the Sigma USB dock as a package deal. My initial thoughts on this lens were that it looked very sleek (I've always been a fan of a plain ol' black lens) but was fairly heavy. While not quite as heavy as my Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS USM, it is still heavier than most, if not all, portrait lenses I've used in the past. However, if I have to add a bit of weight to this lens to receive amazing sharpness and overall image quality, I'll take it! This thing has been tack sharp so far. I haven't had a chance to run a focus test yet, but it seems to be autofocusing very well with a Canon 5D Mark IV. Manual focus is a breeze with the huge focus ring up front. Another perk on the USB dock is the option to turn on or off the option for full-time manual focusing. I haven't tried it, but certainly something nice to have the option of doing. Whether this is your first portrait lens or you are a professional who is looking to add to your collection, you will not be disappointed. However, if you're looking for something to add to your load out for a hike, this may not be your first (or wisest) option.

[0.12x] I sold 4 lenses, including a Nikon 85mm 1.8D, and I still needed to pay extra to get this. Totally worth it. When I first tried this out, I was blown away by how awesome this lens is. It's much sharper than my old 85mm 1.8D, and is by some distance the sharpest lens I have. I think it's going to be my go-to lense for a long time. Bokeh is top-tier, too. If there's any complaint, it's the size and weight of this lens, and it WILL take up space in your bags. Still, if you're looking for the absolute best quality, this is what you have to get.

[28.6°] This is the best portrait lens. I'm going to assume this is definitely the best 85 for its price and also for an 85. To be completely honest this lens is sharper for headshots than my skills for retouching. If you're doing beauty and portraits I recommend a hair and makeup artist or you'll have a field day in post... this is a good thing regarding how sharp it is. Color rendition is beautiful, auto focus is tack sharp and fast especially for 86mm elements, I personally love the weight (I like feeling like I spent the money I did lol). The focus throw on the ring is long and smooth, and the bokeh is CREAMY!!! My only criticism is also a recommendation. This lens is ridiculously sharp and if you are fatigued or don't have the most steady hands I highly recommend a tripod or the old elbow method of stabilization. If you shake during your shot under 1/125 there's a chance for blur in my experience. How do I know this? Because I don't have the most steady hands lol. Just buy the thing.

[86 mm (Front)] I've only had this lens for a couple of weeks, however, I have been impressed with the quality of my images. I shoot mostly mostly outdoor family sessions. I love how crisp my images are and being able to shoot wide open.
