The full cage maintains access to the camera's controls and ports while also offering multiple mounting threads. Many 1/4"-20, 3/8"-16, and M4 threads accommodate articulating arms, a separately available top handle, and lens supports. The top handle features a stop/start button and additional mounting points like a 15mm single rod clamp.

Other mounting options include three NATO rails, one cold shoe mount on the cage, and two cold shoe mounts on the handle. Integrated into the cage's design is a bubble level to make leveling your horizon line more intuitive. An Arca Quick Release system allows you to mount the cage onto compatible tripods. [Arca-Type Plate] After dealing with disappointment from how much the SmallRig Black Mamba cage flexed, I knew I needed a more robust cage for my GH6. Through my research, I’ve found this to be the GH6 cage with the most points of contact on the camera body (two M2.5 screws on both side strap loops, and a 1/4” 20 on the base). Construction is sturdy, as it’s made of thick machined pieces. The top of the cage is essentially a 1/4” 20 cheese plate, and offers a NATO rail for top handle mounting. I’ve tested this cage with the LUMIX DMW-XLR1 while mounting a Zacuto top handle, and it’s a narrow fit, but I can confirm the cage is compatible. The left side also features a NATO rail, ARRI rosette, and a 3/8” 16 with locating pins, but there’s no mounting coverage on the right side, which is kept open to allow handheld operation on the camera body. I would have preferred to have the right side enclosed too, so a side grip could be mounted, but that’s a small issue. Front-to-back oriented Arca plate on the bottom of the cage is much better for tripod configurations and works perfectly with Zacuto’s ACT baseplate. Hands down the best cage for this camera. 5

[2.155 lb] I love how this cage is engineered. My GH6 fits perfectly and allows various configurations due to its modular design. I cannot use the top handle when using the DMX-XLR1 sound module but that's a small concession. 5

[Cage] I do a lot of shoots for social media/YouTube content and this cage has been great to work with, I also got the grip handles that attach to it and it's really comfortable to shoot free hand with. Only downside, I wish it had a top handle rather than having to buy it separately, not the end of the world though! 5

[Arca-Type Plate] I bought this for my GH6. It now holds my GH7. As I stated in another review, my only complaint about SmallRig is no instructions; not even a diagram, but It's not too hard to figure out. When I have nothing else mounted to the cage there are slots for a couple PD Anchor Connectors so I can carry on a PD camera strap. There are plenty of mounting locations for miscellaneous hardware. The two downsides I've found are: The cage covers the drive dial, but you can still easily turn the dial. If I'm in photography mode and want to mount the camera in portrait mode on a tripod, I need to mount an ARCA-Swiss plate to the left side of the cage. 5
