The Auto Extension Tube Set for Nikon Z Lenses by Kenko is a set of two extension tubes for mirrorless interchangeable lens cameras. This set has tubes of 10 mm and 16mm. The tubes can be used individually or in combination to obtain the desired magnification.

Extension tubes are hollow cylinders without optics designed to enable a camera's lens to focus closer than its minimum focusing distance and therefore provide more magnification. They are placed between the lens and body and are particularly useful in allowing lenses without macro capability to shoot macro, but in general, they offer increased magnification for whatever need.

An extension tube increases lens magnification by an amount equal to the extension distance divided by the lens focal length. For example, adding a 25 mm extension tube to a 50 mm lens will give a magnification gain of 0.5X. Therefore, if the lens's original magnification was 0.15X, then the new magnification will be 0.15X + 0.5X = 0.65X.

Kenko's Auto Focus extension tubes are designed with all the circuitry and mechanical coupling to maintain auto focus and TTL auto exposure with Nikon Z lenses.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. In the product reviews mention is made of both a plastic and a metal version of these tubes. If this is correct, what are these. I mean I'd buy genuine Nikon usually and stick to well built metal parts even if heavier but it does seem in this case these independent tubes are a better choice for the modern FX DSLR world where aperture rings on lenses are non existent in G series) and having the option of using AP modes with matrix metering is preferred.

A: The Kenko Auto Extension Tubes are plastic with metal contacts.

Q: 2. Will these allow you to reverse your lens for even greater magnification? I'm sure you'd have to shoot full manual if you did.

A: No, a reverse adapter is a different accessory and method to get macro closeness. If you are using G lenses with no aperture ring, the reverse method is problematic because you wont have aperture control. These tubes send the aperture setting to the lens from the camera.

Q: 3. I returned one set of Vello tubes and am having pretty much the same problems with the 2nd set. With all 3 on a 200mm macro Nikon lens, I get FE for aperture. And there is vignetting with the tubes. Put on a 300mm 2.8 lens, it tries to focus but never locks. Does the Kenko set have the same reduced inner diameter that causes vignetting and are they likely to have the same problems?

A: The Kenko Auto Extension Tubes have a reduced inner diameter, however they will not cause vignette when being used.

Q: 4. Are these compatible with Nikon D3500 and the 18-55mm lens that comes with it?

A: Yes, they are compatible with your camera and lens.

Q: 5. are the tubes constructed of plastic or metal

A: The Kenko Auto Extension Tube Set DG for Nikon Lens is constructed with metal mounts and plastic tubes.

Q: 6. Do these extensions tube work with a Canon Rebel T3?

A: I have a Canon EOS Rebel T2i DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Lens, and the Auto Extension Tube Set DG for Canon EOS Lenses works fine with it.

Q: 7. Do the kenko DG tubes work on older film cameras like nikon FE, FM, Fm2, etc? Or is this just for dslr?

A: It will fit on most of the older cameras but most lenses in combination will not work.

Q: 8. Does it communicate VR function?

A: Yes the VR function works with these tubes.

Q: 9. Will they work with a Nikon D7200 and Nikon 200-500 F5.6?

A: Yes it is fully compatible with the D7200 and the Nikon 200-500 lens.

Q: 10. Based on the compatibility list, I take it that these extension tubes are not compatible with any RF-S lenses. Is this correct?

A: Yes, the Kenko Auto Extension Tube Set for Canon RF Lenses is also compatible with all Canon RF-S lens series.

[0.415 lb] These feel as heavy and sturdy as Canon ETs. I am confident using them with the RF 85mm f/1.2.

[Nikon Z] I was interested in getting a Macro lens but before spending the money thought I would try these extension tubes. Boy was I impressed and happy with the results. While these don't give you true 1:1 macro shots, they do allow you to get in extremely close. And using them in conjuction with a Canon 250D close up lens they are remarkable. I love how you can use the three in different combinations to get just the right shot. They allow me to still use the auto focus and light meter on my camera. I use the Nikon D3100. I am very happy with these lens and so glad I bought them first. I will probably get a true macro lens someday but these extension tubes are letting me try out macro photography and get some fantastic shots in the mean time. Highly recommend these if you are interested at all in macro photography.

[0.415 lb] Was unfamiliar with limited focal range of an extension tube. Once used to it, it really brought objects in close. Kenko kept the electrical contacts but easiest was manual focusing with the large focus ring Tokina.

[0.415 lb] Works well, and opens up new uses for most of my other lenses. One could quibble about the price charged for a simple device like this, or just shrug and be glad it's relatively cheap compared to all the other gear.

[0.415 lb] These are my first extension tubes. I put them on without issue, and they performed perfectly. I have them attached to a Tamron lens.

[Nikon Z] I use the Kenko Auto Extension Tube mostly with my Nikon 105mm Micro lens. Unlike another product I bought these extension tubes allow me to use my lenses. They are also easy to align with lens as well as the camera body.

[0.415 lb] I have only used it a couple of times and I like the effect that I'm getting. Looking forward to having some more fun with it.

[0.415 lb] Not the cheapest extension set, but nicely made and fits precisely. I also have a Canon-branded extender, but that one extender cost almost as much as this set of three. I think the Kenko set is a good compromise, especially as it contains contacts to enable autofocus. Using the EF25 Canon extender plus the largest of the Kenko set to get a total of about 2.5 extension with my 100mm 1:1 closeup lens, I now have a 2:1 enlargement ratio, which is what I wanted.
