The Vanco HDMI EDID Sync Recorder Evolutionfrom Vanco HDMI EDID Sync Recorder Evolutionis an EDID reader/writer/re-timer able to emulate EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) information. For use in applications where EDID issues are occurring, it features the ability to set EDID from the main unit or a connected computer using the included software. Controllable via USB, the unit stores and recalls EDID information from either source or display and supports HDCP. It saves time from troubleshooting and replacing equipment. This EDID management allows and encourages source and display "handshake", a perfect solution for compatibility issues.

Extended Display Identification Data (EDID) is a standard data format that contains basic information about the display and its capabilities, including vendor information, maximum image size, color characteristics, factory pre-set timings, frequency range limits, and character strings for the monitor name and serial number. The information is stored in the display and used to communicate with the system through a Display Data Channel (DDC). The system uses this information for configuration purposes, so the monitor and the system can work together.

Q: 1. Has anyone used this to get dvd/blu ray into a video switcher like Kramer?

A: Yes it will, if your Kramer will work with HDCP protected content and pass EDID.

Q: 2. I have an Xfinity cable box connected to a Sony H800x tv that is connected to a Sonos Arc. I have a lip synch issue and cannot get it corrected. I spent a lot of time with Sony and Sonos but nothing worked. Will this device solve the problem? Does the device require power?

A: This does not solve syncing issues.

Q: 3. Will this device successfully output sound via optical out to my DACmagic plus from Cambridge Audio? I am planning on connecting this device with either the new apple tv 4k or roku ultra. I will use my Rega Brio analog only integrated amplifier for 2 channel audio. Many thanks for your guidance.

A: Hi Jacques. While we haven't tested the OMX-05HMHM0001 with the DACMagic unit specifically, we don't foresee any issues. You should be able to connect the TOSLINK output of the OMX-05HMHM0001 right to the input of our DACMagic Plus unit and the extracted audio signal should pass without issue as long as the DACMagic supports the audio format being output. Q: 4. Trying to go out of a MBP to an HDMI splitter, but having issues. Someone suggested an HDMI EIED emulator. I guess I'm having handshaking issues? I get images on both sides of the splitter's output, but only for about 3 seconds, then it goes blank.

Q: 5. Does it solve hdcp handshake problem?

A: This product does support HDCP as well. We are not aware of the specific problem you are facing, but that does support HDCP.

Q: 6. Is there a way of editing the EDID emulation, including the ID text that shows up on the source?

Q: 7. How do you change source to output 1080i? I need to change my 1080p camera to shoot out 1080i so my atem switcher will recognize it.

A: Hi there, B&H have asked me to try and advise you when using a Gefen HDMI Detective. Firstly the frame rate of your camera thru to your switcher is not changed by using this device. If your camera has the capabilty for different resolutions and frame rates, then you must carry out this procedure from within the menu of the camera. Normally most vision switchers require all sources to be the same or it will not recognise them. Hope this helps you.

Q: 9. Can i connect 2 of these in sequence to feed 2 TOSLINK recipients + 1 HDMI?

Q: 10. I have a DVI-D PC monitor. When I use an HDMI to DVI cable, audio is not passed because the monitor's EDID tells the device it does not support audio. Can I use this to force audio to my monitor? Maybe spoof the input device to think its a regular HDMI monitor so it passes audio. I need to pass audio because I'd like to use an HDMI audio extractor in between.

A: As others have said, DVI doesn't support audio output. This will not work for you unfortunately.

[Yes] Cleaned up multiple EDID problems between an UHD disk player and a 4K Sony projector. The Atlona help line was fantastic. The technician could be reached instantly, was extremely knowledgeable and very gracious. This is a great product from a company offering world class technical guidance. 5

[5 VDC, 2 A] This came in fairly minimal packaging. All I had to do was open the cardboard box and pick it out. I plugged it in between my television and the computer and let it record the EDID, then I plugged it between the computer and the capture card. The Blackmagic capture card which had stymied so many of my attempts to capture a 1080p signal started working the way I wanted it to after inserting this EDID emulator into the chain. The rotary dial, by the way, was fairly resistant to accidental nudges. IT took a bit of effort to get the dial to change its position. 5

[5 VDC, 2 A] This little device solved all the problems we had connecting all sorts of laptops to our digital video switcher. The switcher in question is Sony MCS8M and it's especially problematic to connect any sort of Macbook to it. Not anymore. 5

[5 VDC, 2 A] I needed something to force a 1080p 60 EDID for a source device feeding a Blackmagic HDMI to SDI converter. Neither of the connected devices requires any kind of HDCP so I cannot speak to any issues that might arise from that. The HDMI EDID Ghost performed as expected. I used the hard setting and never attempted to copy an EDID. Time will tell whether or not the device is reliable. The device is doing exactly what I purchased it to do. 5

[Yes] I was having HDMI handshake issues with my Samsung TV, Xfinity X1 Box and my Yamaha receiver. I had to turn everything on several times to get all components to work properly. I hooked up the HD Fury in between the cable box and TV and it works perfect each time. This is a great device. 5

[5 VDC, 2 A] This little device solved some problems in our professional environment in a matter of seconds. One of them was connecting any macbook to digital video switcher via HDMI. It can effectively filter HDCP in video signal thus making it compatible with any video switcher. Our particualr switcher in question is Sony MCS-8M. 5

[5 VDC, 2 A] This is an excellent little box. It's well built and does exactly what the manufacturer says it does. Setup was a breeze. The manual can be confusing but it basically reads/duplicates/changes and EDID HDMI/DVI signal. Why do you need this? Simple...If your monitor/TV is not talking to your input device properly for whatever reason, this will take care of that. You can select resolutions, color options on the fly and pass through sound as well. Why did I use this? I was trying to connect a PC output to an HDMI monitor of obscure resolution. I was greeted with a blank screen. I did some research and it turned out the Intel drivers do not support said resolution...so HDMI handshake was happening but that was about it. All I had to do is connect this box between the monitor and the PC and set it to a resolution that the Intel drivers understood...and voila...problem solved. The box continuously broadcasts the EDID signal so the computer thinks it's always connected. Perfect. 5
