Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Seagate has released a 3.5", 7200-rpm drive which utilizes the SAS III 12 Gb/s interface. Will QNAP upgrade this product soon?

A: The QNAP TS-664 6-Bay NAS Enclosure, (B&H # QNTS6648GUS) only supports SATA drives, you would not be able to upgrade it to use SAS drives. You would need to look at a model that supports SAS.

Q: 2. What is the maximum supported capacity of a drive to be put inside the enclosure?

A: It will support 16TB drives.

Q: 3. If I go from raid 0 to raid 6 I know I have to reload my data but does the os retain its modifications (ie apps added) ?

A: Yes, changing the RAID will not change the system settings in the OS on the QNAP TS-664 6-Bay NAS Enclosure.

Q: 4. Is there an advantage to adding 2 M.2 NVMe SSD drives when having 4 x 2.5" 4tb SSD drives?

A: Yes, the QNAP TS-435XeU 4-Bay NAS Enclosure uses the M.2 drives to enable cache acceleration, so they will help to keep data transfer rates up.

Q: 5. Do I need an expansion card to install SSD? Or does it come with SSD slots and the expansion card just provides some extra?

A: The QNAP TS-464 4-Bay NAS Enclosure has two M.2 slots built-in for SSDs. With the QNAP QM2-2P10G1TB expansion card, B&H # QNM22P10G1TB, you could add two additional M2 slots as well as 10GbE networking.

[Yes] Works as advertised. Supports VAAI storage primitives iSCSI and NFS. Easy to configure and using QuTs Hero with ZFS. Excellent performance and flexibility, as well as dedupe and compression with external cloud storage providers as replication targets. Ordered U.2 - 2xNVMe trays and have 8TB of NVMe RAID0 across 4 PCIe lanes for massive cache performance. Easily maxxed out the system RAM to 64GB using non-ECC DIMMs works great even without using QNAP provided RAM. 10Gbe networking bonded with the 2x2.5Gbe ports for 15Gbe trunked to commodity switch is fantastic. Five 7200rpm x 18TB HDD, 4xNVMe 2TB and 2x4TB SSD for 11 total drives and 106TB raw storage even only using 9 bays. This thing is incredible for a home lab setup for vSphere.

[Yes, 256 LUN] Using with Crucial 1Tb drives in RAID 5 and hitting 1.2Gb read for my home virtualization environment. I have older QNAPs that just keep running without failure.

[Yes] I bought a pair of QNAPs: TS-451 and TS-431 back in 2015. I wanted to replace the -431 because its 32-bit ARM CPU couldn't run the convenient Tailscale VPN I wanted to use to access it remotely. Then my -451 developed a hardware issue that I was able to repair but which made me nervous about its longevity. So I purchased the -464, moved the drives from the -451 to it, and was back on the air. The repaired -451, with new drives, will soon move to a remote location, accessed via Tailscale. The -464 is a nice upgrade: faster CPU, tool-less disk installation, less cluttered styling.

[Yes] This is a great enclosure for anyone who's looking for a raid system to protect client footage. I can edit my 6k & 8k footage straight from the drives without proxies.

[Yes] A NAS upgrade from a 5 year old model, these 2 made everything fast and snappy again. Donated the old ones to a city computer organization to help those without such resources, these 2 were a cinch to upgrade and move my data over and be back up and running really fast. Might be better ones out there, but the price and size and ease of use made getting these a no brainer.

[256-Bit AES] I needed to upgrade from an older Western Digital NAS to something with more bays. I landed on this QNAP and I am pretty happy with it as it allows me to have more drives AND is somewhat more powerful. It seems a bit more complex but I have called the good people at QNAP tech support on numerous occasions and they have been very accommodating. They even helped me set up an rsync event (is that what it is? an event?) that allowed me to copy the data from my WD to my QNAP. It was so much faster than having my computer negotiate that transfer. So far so good.

[100 (Client)] This thing is replacing my TS 653 eventually. It is whisper quiet sitting right beside me. It is a faster Celeron than the 653 and it uses metal trays instead of plastic brackets. It gives my system a nice look. One thing all should be aware of is that the holes for the rack mount are smaller than the regular rack screws so keep that in mind. I didn't increase the memory as I bought the 8 GB model, and I love the B&H Payboo Card which saves money.

[3x 40 mm Fans] This was my first NAS setup for video editing, and it's been fantastic. A bit involved to set up, but the capabilities it has are incredible once you watch a few tutorials. I'm connected to mine through a 10g ethernet connection, using an ethernet to thunderbolt adapter to go into my MacBook Pro. It's nearly as fast as the thunderbolt RAID I have on my desk, but much larger and more powerful.

5
28/05/2024

[4 GB DDR4] I really like have all my files in one place. Having the four drives is really nice, and the M2.NVME slot's are a bonus. Having a SFP port in the back is great! 10gb transfer speeds are awesome!

5
04/05/2024

[12.76 lb] A solid choice for personal cloud storage, and with a lot of extra apps and features that can integrate with smartphones as well as computers. The SSD option does seem to speed up the access for frequently used files, and the newer CPU is better suited to this device's role than in previous models.
