Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use auto focus with this filter?

A: Yes absolutely. However I had problems with the Nikon 95 Polarizeras the two polarizing elements of the filter separated as I unscrewed it from a Nikon 200-500 F 5.6 tele. The two elements of this thin Nikon polarizer are held together with a thin silver wire. I sent it back to Nikon and asked for a new replacement filter but Nikon declined and sent the polarizer back repaired. Fearing the same problem might reoccur, I replaced the Nikon Polarizer with a B&W 95 polarizer which seem much more substantial.

Q: 2. Will this filter work with the original M10 system?

A: The Haida M10-II Drop-In 2-in-1 Circular Polarizer + Neutral Density ND 0.9 Filter (3-Stop) is compatible with the original Haida M10 Filter Holder.

Q: 3. When I use the filter and the lens hood can I still rotate the filter? Thats would be a good reason to buy Nikon over B&H

A: Depends on what lens hood you have, the deeper the lens hood the harder it is to get your finger in to turn. I usually set the filter to what polarization I prefer then attach the lens hood making sure I do not alter the filter.

Q: 4. Hi ! Video guy question ! Will this let me go f1.8 on 1/50 and 200 iso on a bright sunny day ? Or I need the other version. Thanks

A: Unfortunately, we cannot be sure exactly how much density you will need without knowing the original exposure or the ambient light level. However, I would guesstimate that, by using the Sunny-16 rule, I would recommend you would need at least a 10-stop neutral density filter for your usage needs, so the above option would not work for your usage. If you are looking for an alternative that would work, I would recommend the Aurora-Aperture 77mm Power XND Mark II Variable ND 1.5 to 3.3 Filter (5 to 11-Stop), B&H # AUVND322K77, or the Haida 77mm NanoPro Variable Neutral Density 0.9 to 3.0 Filter (3 to 10-Stop), B&H # HANPVND77, for your usage needs.

Q: 5. Does this VND also have polarizer built in.... or should we consider getting the PolarPro fixed ND/PL? Thank you

A: This filter is only a VND, if you want a combo, then the Polarpro ND/CP would be the way to go.

Q: 6. Can this fit on a 16mm - 35 mm lens?

A: Well that depends on which brand lens you have, etc...

Q: 7. Can these be used with step-up rings without optical problems?

A: Yes, step up rings will not be a problem with this filter.

Q: 8. Does this have IR filtration built in? Because I plan on using it with a BMPCC 6K and don't want IR pollution changing the colors as I step down.

A: The PolarPro 82mm Peter McKinnon Edition Variable Neutral Density filter is made of Quartz Glass. Quartz Glass has excetionally high tramissision of the entire visible spectrum inclding UV and IR. If you need UV filtration use a seperate UV filter.

Q: 9. Is this newest version? Version 2?

A: No this is the mark I.

Q: 10. If I'm attaching this to my Canon 24-105mm lens, will this accept it's lens hood?

A: Unfortunately, the hood will not work with the filter.

[Aluminum] Surprisingly good quality, especially for the price! No issues so far.
Wasn't able to see any downgrade in the quality of the photo with the filter attached (image shown at 1:1 pixel ratio). The image still looked just as good as it did without the filter!
Seems very durable!

[0.17 lb] I love being able to not bring screw on ND filters with my canon eos r. I can go around shooting pics of my kids outside playing and switch to video mode, dial in the ND and boom.
I wish Blackmagic would do a pocket cinema camera with the RF mount.

[Multi Coated] I have used many 10 stop ND's in the past and settled on a B&W but was never really thrilled with it. There was always something about the images that bugged me. I decided to test it , alone and then in front of a polarizer , each time I noticed a pretty noticeable drop in sharpness, especially fine detail smearing. Considering the cost of it this shouldn't be happening.
So I searched for a new one and found an intense review of 10 stop ND's and the Haida Nanopro MC ND 10 stop was part of it. It came out on top along side one other, but with the price of this filter it was a no brainer to buy and test out. I ordered it from B&H and tested it right away. Straight Image, Image with the ND, and Image with both the ND and a Nikon Circular polarizer behind the ND. NO difference in sharpness, ZERO. You wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the 3 , even at 100% zoom and beyond.
I tested it on Modern AI lenses, and Vintage Nikkor S and H lenses with single coatings all tested with the same result. No color cast either.
I went out with the Haida ND and the Nikon Polarizer and shot outside, long exposure with foliage and water. Same result. Sharp sharp sharp. All on a D810 in Bulb/Mirror up.
Haida has just won a customer for life.
