A high-resolution 20.4MP Live MOS sensor and updated TruePic IX image processor work together to provide fast shooting performance, a sensitivity range up to ISO 25600, and versatile 4K video recording capabilities. Additionally, the sensor and processor provide an impressive continuous shooting rate of up 30 fps when shooting in the camera's new Pro Capture mode, enabling you to capture fast-moving subject when time is of the essence.

An advanced autofocus system combines both 121 phase-detection AF points and 121 contrast-detection AF points for focusing performance that is both quick and accurate. All 121 phase-detection points are cross-type for improved precision in mixed lighting conditions, providing enhanced subject tracking capabilities. Different focusing modes are available to suit working in various shooting conditions as well, including Group Target 25-point mode for moving subjects such as birds and wildlife. Face Detection and Eye Detection AF have also been upgraded, and the camera features a recently designed Starry Sky AF mode as well as individual AF area settings for vertical and horizontal positions.

In-body, sensor-shift image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake by up to 6.5 stops with any lens in use and compensates for camera movements that become especially noticeable when working with telephoto shots, macro imagery, and long exposures. Furthermore, this unique image stabilization system works across five axes to compensate for vertical angle rotation, horizontal angle rotation, horizontal shift, vertical shift, and rolling camera shake movement. This range of detected movements benefits traditional still image shooting as well as movie recording and working with moving subjects more effectively. Additionally, when paired with select lenses featuring optical image stabilization, shake compensation up to 7.5 stops is possible.

The sensor and processor also support recording both DCI (4096 x 2160) and UHD (3840 x 2160) 4K movies. When working in DCI, a true 24p frame rate is used, while UHD 4K is available in frame rates up to 30p. Audio recording is possible using the built-in stereo microphone, and an external mic jack is available for improved audio recording quality. Additionally, a Time-lapse Movie mode is also available for recording up to 4K UHD resolution.

  • Simulating the effects of a neutral density filter, Live ND 16 mode results in blurred subject movement by combining exposures into a single image to replicate a photo taken at slower shutter speeds. This is particularly suitable for photographing moving water and clouds.
  • Focus stacking mode records multiple sequential frames then composites the exposures into a single image that exhibits an extended depth of field.
  • High-Res Shot mode offers the equivalent output of a 50MP image.
  • Live Composite mode gradually builds up an exposure over time without overexposing key elements within the frame and is ideal for long exposures, nighttime shooting, and light painting applications.
  • New Vertical Video mode provides a 9:16 aspect ratio for easily integrating videos on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and other similar platforms.

    • High-resolution 2.36m-dot electronic viewfinder for eye-level monitoring and clear, distortion-free viewing.
    • Rear 3.0" 1.04m-dot LCD monitor features a vari-angle design to support working from a variety of angles, and it is also a touchscreen for intuitive menu navigation and image playback.
    • Included BLS-50 rechargeable lithium-ion battery is used to provide approximately 310 shots per charge.
    • In-camera battery charging is supported via the micro-USB port.
    • Single SD memory card slot is UHS-II compatible for fast read/write speeds.
    • Wide accessory compatibility provided with the incorporation of a microphone port, a top hot shoe, micro-USB and micro-HDMI ports, and a 2.5mm port for optional remotes.
    • Rugged splashproof, dustproof, and freezeproof construction incorporates extensive sealing throughout the body design to accommodate working in harsh weather conditions and trying environments.
    • Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth permits wireless image sharing and remote camera control from a linked smartphone or tablet.

[TTL] A super camera with plenty of bells and whistles and solidly built. The one feature I was most interested in was the pro capture mode, that is when the camera starts to buffer images when you half-press the shutter button. When the subject for instance takes flight, one simply depresses the shutter button the remaining half, capturing the buffered images and the selected number of images afterwards. I have used both the high and low modes of pro capture to great effect. Before heading out to a local wildlife refuge I spent a couple weeks tweaking techniques, experimenting with different modes, and learning the camera functions. They are, for the most part, intuitive. In pro capture mode, especially when the temps are in the 20s or low 30s, the camera eats up the batteries. I got two extra batteries and went through three on an extended day at Chincoteague NWR. I paired the camera body with Olympus Pro 300mm and have not been disappointed in the image quality. An awesome combination.

[8 x 7.5 x 5.6"] I enjoy this camera. I previously had the OM-D EM10 Mark I. This is a wonderful upgrade. Much more powerful, much better picture quality and autofocus etc. I was immediately able to use most its functions as it's pretty similat to the EM10.

[Stills & Video] I hesitated to upgrade from the E-M5 mark II mainly because of the negative comments related to the "plastic" build and toy like feel of the mark III. But as soon as I received mine, I was relieved. It might not feel as "premium" as the mark II but it is still very nice to hold and use.

What I like (compare to mark II):
The 20 MP sensor is less noisy and might have a bit more DR than the old 16 MP one.
Phase detection AF works great for video.
Speaking of video, the DCI 4K with flat profile produces nice files.
IBIS not as audible and might be a bit better.
Top plate controls similar to E-M1 mk III which makes it easier to switch from one camera to another.
And the biggest upgrade for me: OLED electronic viewfinder that can be used with polarized sunglasses!

I don't have any complaint so far but maybe it is because this is not my main camera. I bought it specifically for when I am hiking or biking and I don't plan on using it with heavy lenses, tripod or video accessories.

So for someone with similar use cases than me, I would highly recommend it. For a more general purpose camera, the E-M1 mk III or OM1 would make more sense. Or the Panasonic G9 if phase detection. AF is not a must.

[2x] Not quite iPhone sized but light and easy to pack away. Already having a boatload of M4T glass for other cameras, it's nice to have several of these packed away for those grab and shoot moments on the road.

[NTSC/PAL] The ergonomics on this camera are world class (Sony, please take note). It's a joy to use, all the controls are where they should be, everything is customizable - Olympus really kills it here. The quality of the output is top shelf. The lens catalogue (between Olympus and Panasonic) is complete, varied and includes really high quality glass at prices full frame users can only dream of. The rear screen and viewfinder are excellent. The in-body-image-stabilzation is as good as they claim it to be too - which is best in class.

And it's impressively weatherproofed - this is a big deal because the environment can sneak in and make a mess of your sensor, your lenses and subsequent photos. I've made that mistake (Sony - are you listening?)

    And it's smallish and light.

As if that's not enough, it's a handsome piece of kit - I'm partial to the silver version). Don't take my word for it - I've been stopped a number of times and asked about this camera (never has this happened with any other camera I've used).

I'll say it again - this camera and the small, quality, weatherproof, affordable lenses in the MFT's catalogue are a real joy to use.

I'm inches away from selling my Sony APSC system... Yeah

[Shoe Mount] The in body stabilization makes this thing a superstar. Regardless of f stop and light level, each image comes in crisp. Need to do a 1.5 second night exposure hand-held? No worries, mate. The controls, once mastered, are fast and intuitive.

[-2 to 20 EV] I bought this camera and the lens as a kit because of the discount that was offered for buying the body and the lens together. As of now I have been able to take only few pictures with this camera kit, but I am already impressed by the sharpness of the pictures that this kit has produced, in spite of my lingering belief that kit lenses are inferior.

[12-Bit] I bought this camera to compliment and back up my OM-D E-M1 Mark III. It has most of the features of the E-M1 in an even smaller and lighter body. It's perfect for landscape, nature, travel and street photography and I've found that I have been leaving my 12-45mm f4 pro (24-90mm full frame equiv.) on it almost all the time, while my E-M1 has the 40-150mm f4 pro (80-300mm FF equiv.) parked on it. Very convenient! These 2 cameras have replaced 2 much bigger Canon DSLR's and a smaller Canon mirrorless. I haven't given up anything in terms of image quality, only size and weight. Having more fun with my photography than I've had in years!

[1,040,000 Dot] A great camera, and the 12-45 F/4 lens creates very sharp images. I do most of my photography backpacking in the mountains where we carry everything, and hike 5-8 miles a day, with typically 3000' of elevation gain. So, I wanted a small/light camera. This fits the bill. And the IBIS is so good, unreal!
