The Sirui P-424FS Carbon Fiber Monopod with VH-10 Video Headfrom Sirui P-424FS Carbon Fiber Monopod with VH-10 Video Headis a versatile, feature-laden carbon fiber monopod with a load capacity of 13.2 pounds and a maximum height of 66.8 inches. The monopod extends and folds quickly thanks to the ergonomic flip-lock joints. The head plate incorporates a quick release collar to easily remove and store a mounted camera or tripod head, and it features a reversible 1/4"-20 to 3/8"-16 mounting stud.

The base of the monopod incorporates a tripod foot base for added stability, which features a locking ball joint with a tilt range of up to 36° and rubber-tipped feet for added traction. The quick release mounting plate can be attached directly to the tripod foot base to form a mini tripod for macro photography or tabletop use.

The included VH-10X fluid video head uses a fluid system to produce smooth pans and tilt movements for DSLRs and compact video cameras weighing up to 8.8 lb. It features an independent pan locking knob and uses an internal spring-assisted counterbalance mechanism for smoother tilt movements with heavier cameras. It includes a 501-PL-type quick release plate.

A: No, the Sirui P-424FS 4-Section Carbon Fiber Monopod with VH-10 Video Head's quick release system is based on the Manfrotto 501 plate, so it will not accept Arca-Swiss plates.

Q: 2. If I pair this with a RRS MH-1 will it be a stable platform when used with a Canon 5DIII and a second gen Canon 400mm 2.8?

A: I used this on an offroad African safari. Nikon D810; Sirui G-20x head; Nikon 200-500 mm zoom. Worked like a champ. Does exactly what a mono pod should do which is provide extra stability for long lens shots. Very compact and light weight which makes this nicer than my sturdy but heavier Manfrotto Monopod.

Q: 10. How wide is the top plate where the camera or ball head attaches?

A: The diameter of the outer limits of the knob is 2.32 or 59mm. The diameter of the flat section of the plate that would contact a camera or ball head is 2.08 or 53mm in diameter. To change the camera/ball plate screw from 1/4 x20 to 3/8 -16 merely unscrew this plate, reverse the screw and screw the plate back on the monopod. Very quick and easy. No tools needed.

[+90° to -70°] Works great mounted on a MeFOTO GlobeTrotter aluminum tripod supporting a Sony A7 camera. The counterbalance works well with a 70-200 lens attached. I wish the screw on the quick release plate had a d-ring but it's a minor issue. I give the the VH-10 4.9 stars. 5

[Carbon Fiber] This is a sturdy carbo Fiber monopod with a Tilt head. The base could be configured as a small tripod or a monopod. Quick release can quickly convert this monopod into a table tripod. The central foot as an integrated spike that can be easily retracted. Quick Cam release to adjust the desired height. Ball head over the tripod foot to allow flexibility for the orientation of the monopod. The Tripod base can easily be removed to decrease the weight on the monopod. I would certainly recommend this very nice monopod to my friends. 5

[Flip Lock] B&H exchanged the first VH-10, where the clamp was adjusted too tightly to work with some third-party plates (notably Sachtler). The second VH-10 is adjusted better, but still just a little tight for Sachtler plates. At issue is that the plate clamp lever has a stop at wide open which is factory set, and the Sirui plates are a little narrower than ones from Sachtler, Gitzo and Manfrotto. It seems Sachtler are the fattest even though they are all more or less compatible. I use Kirk SQRC 501PL adapters in combination with RRS camera plates, and the Kirk fits these heads with no problem. Keep in mind that the Sirui plates are not fully compatible with Manfrotto inasmuch as they do not have the right tab underneath and will slide out forward freely on a Manfrotto 577. Despite all this, this is a beautiful head, very smooth, very lightweight, very compact, very solid, and a pleasure to work with, given its limitations with a fixed counterbalance and no pan drag adjustment. With all this going for it, I want to make it work for me! The counterbalance seems very torquey maybe because of the head's small size, and seems a little stronger than I would expect for its rated 2kg. That's an advantage for a heavier load, but it makes it less usable for a small DSLR with a relatively small prime lens. If you have a growing amount of cinematography gear, this head can't possibly be your only solution, but you might find it is perfect for certain mobile purposes, for the right configuration. 5

[Carbon Fiber] It is very useful for shooting video in the city or in crowded places. It can be set up stable and rigid. I use it to shoot video of old city scenes and surrounding scenery with the Z6 III on it. It is very useful because it allows me to shoot quickly and without blurring in small spaces, while making my equipment more compact. It makekes me more mobile. 5

[Yes] I've really enjoyed my fluid head from Sirui. It'll soon be almost a year since I bought it and it has served me very well. It's a fluid head for heavy duty cameras and it shows. The panning and tilting are extremely smooth and the handle feels great. I've been lucky enough to play with a Manfrotto 504HD fluid head for comparison sakes. The Sirui offers less frills and keeps it simple. It doesn't get as loose as the 504, which tends to get too flimsy for my gear. The handle on the 504 also feels cheap compared the the Sirui. To each their own and I shouldn't be making too many comparisons as they're both great heads, but for $$less, this head is wonderful and I'm looking to purchase a second. 5

[4] I use this tripod for photo and video and with the ball AND fluid head, it meets all the needs I have for both. The build quality is excellent and about what you'd expect from a $350 tripod, maybe a bit better. It's very versatile for both photo and video. The only drawback is the weight. It's heavy. Which also makes for another drawback, it's also somehow not heavy enough. It's purely middle of the road on both. It is, however, incredibly sturdy and hasn't failed any task I've thrown at it. If I need more weight, I throw a bag on and it's fine. The fluid head is very smooth throughout its entire range of motion and both heads are easy to set up and use. It's an incredible value for the price. With both the ball and heads, and the tripod itself, you'll be hard pressed to find a similar package for the price. I priced out what everything would have cost on its own, for Siriu and other brands, and this or a similar set up would have cost at least $500+. 5
