Offering the same performance and hardware quality as Sonicview recording and live mixers, TASCAM SB-16D Dante-networked 16-in / 16-out stage box offers all the advantages of Dante networking, combined with seamless integration with Sonicview mixers. The stage boxes can be used as a floor stage box or rackmounted, and multiple stage boxes can be used simultaneously in a Dante network.

When a SB-16D stage box is connected to a Sonicview 16XP or 24XP mixer, microphone gain can be remotely controlled from the mixing console, and all SB-16D I/O comes up on the Sonicview VIEW touchscreens for hassle-free ease of use. In addition, the SB-16D is equipped with 8-in / 8-out GPIOs, which expand to 16-in / 16-out GPIOs when connected to a Sonicview mixer, facilitating parallel control.

  • Easily accommodate large ensembles and extensive installed Dante systems using the SB-16D’s 16 XLR mic/line inputs and 16 XLR line outputs. Need more I/O? Simply network multiple SB-16Ds.
  • The mic/line inputs are extremely quiet, achieving a -128 dBu EIN with a +32 dBu maximum input level. Each input channel has +48V phantom power and an SIG OL LED for input-level monitoring. Each line output also is equipped with SIG OL LEDs.
  • The SB-16D supports Dante Domain Manager in addition to AES67 and SMPTE 2110 interoperability. Two Dante ports equipped with etherCON-compatible Dante connectors enable redundant streams with robust connections.
  • For additional system reliability, a DC power input is provided that supports a redundant power supply (not included).

  • As in Sonicview mixers, each SB-16D microphone input feeds a TASCAM Class 1 HDIA (High Definition Instrumentation Architecture) preamp—the finest mic preamp TASCAM has ever made. Thanks to an instrumentation amplifier with extremely good noise characteristics in the first stage, Class 1 HDIA microphone preamps exhibit excellent EIN, signal-to-noise ratio, distortion ratio, and frequency response. The mic inputs can accept up to +32 dBu signals, providing plenty of headroom for sudden level increases.
  • As with Sonicview mixers, the SB-16D uses 32-bit analog-to-digital converters and a 96 kHz sampling frequency. Repeated internal and external evaluations were conducted to fine-tune the SB-16D, ensuring best-in-class sound that will never disappoint.

  • Whether you want a networked floor box for stage use, or rackmounted inputs for recording and broadcast studios and commercial installs, the SB-16D provides the flexibility you need. It can be 3U rackmounted with the included brackets, which offer two angle options. Mount the jack panel on the front of the rack and take advantage of the SB-16D’s cable hole to conveniently and safely route connected cables in the back.
  • Large rubber feet maintain stability, even with cables connected, when the SB-16D is used as a floor box. Multiple stage boxes can be stacked for ease of transportation and stability during installation. A handle makes the SB-16D easy to carry.

Whether your SB-16D is onstage, backstage, in a control room, or in an equipment closet, you're always in full control with the free TASCAM IO Control software for macOS, Windows, and iPadOS. Manage your stage box from virtually anywhere in the venue, even when the SB-16D is used in standalone mode.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. can this be used with a usb hub, a powered hub? i only have one usb-c port om my computer.

A: It is recommended that you use a powered USB hub.

Q: 2. Would this work with Pro tools 12?

A: Yes, almost certainly. I have the Tascam 20x20 and it works well with my DAW.

Q: 3. Does this come with Mac OS X recording software? If so, will the included software allow simultaneous 16 channel recording? If not, what Mac OS X software can I use for simultaneous 16 track recording?

A: No the Tascam US-16x08 does not come with any software. If you want to be able to record 16 tracks or more at once I would suggest you get Pro Tools 11. Here is the B&H part number for Pro Tools 11, B&H # AVPT11DVDS. You can record 32 tracks at once and have 256 busses at your disposal. I would suggest you go to the Avid website and make sure your computer is an Avid-qualified Mac before you make the purchase. Then you should be good to go.

Q: 4. Do I need a USB 2 to USB 3 adapter to connect the Tascam 16x08 to a MacBook Pro ?Or will the USB 2 cable fit directly into a USB 3 port? Thank You !!!

A: No you don't need an adapter, USB3 is backwards compatible with USB2

Q: 5. Is it possible to simultaneously record multi-track to a DAW and have a 1-to-1 pass thru for the first 8 XLR inputs to the first 8 TRS outputs? I'd like to basically put this in front of my 10ch mixer as a "pass thru multi-channel audio interface"

A: The included DSP mixer allows the user to route any input to any output, so this type of "pass-through" recording should be possible with the Tascam US-16x08.

Q: 6. Can the Dante side of the AVB-D16 operate in AES-67 mode?

A: The PreSonus AVB-D16 Network Bridge 16x16 Two-Way AVB-to-Dante does not feature an AES67 mode or purport the ability to communicate with other devices using this protocol.

Q: 7. Does nyone know if this is compatable with Reaper ?

A: Reaper has not been officially tested by Tascam, however with the proper drivers installed from Tascam, Reaper should recognize the US-16x08 as an I/O device.Unfortunately we are unable to confirm, but are aware of many users that use Reaper with Tascam interfaces.

Q: 8. Does the built in software EQ and compression affect the recorded signal, or is this purely for monitoring?

A: Based on the information provided by Tascam, the dsp mixer of this unit is for monitoring only.

Q: 9. Sitting at a computer for prolong periods can cause spinal discomfort from degenerative disc disease. With that said, in simultaneously recording 16 channels interfacing, a term I know little about, with a software platform means foregoing standalone units with built-in mixing that I would find physically easier. I am just learning of sound recording have last worked with a Teac 4-track recorder, so I am admittedly intimidated technically overwhelmed by this approach. However, since someone bestowed upon me an iPad (that I have little idea of what it does), interfacing seems the most inexpensive way to approach the aforementioned goal of learning to simultaneously record a sizable number of tracks. As a revived joy of music has given me brighter days in anticipation of helping others enjoy, too, what resources exist to begin to grasp merely the basic concept of interfacing, which I presume means using an editing software. I sincerely am asking pointing me toward materials availability on this subject. Our wonderful B&H resource (that is to say, staff) has put together a collection of books on various audio and other topics. Any suggestions on where to start, please? Respectfully, Jeff F.

Q: 10. Is that thing REALLY 52 long?

A: I know it seems hard to believe and you will be relieved to know it is not 52 long. If it was 52 long it would be 4.3 feet. The true dimensions are 17.5 x 2.3 x 8.6 . It seems to be an error that can be found in several places. Those are the correct dimensions.

[44 W] It has low noise and isn't plagued with EMI issues like my last interface. It works out of box for Windows 10.

The things I could ding it for are, no channel independent phantom power and I wish it had a little bit more gain, but it's OK for me for now.

[44 W] I had a us-1641, which is the predecessor to this model. It was no longer supported on the later versions of Mac OXS, and now macOS. I was forced to upgrade to the us-1608. It is a great device, has a smaller footprint, and works better than the 1641. I recommend this product. It works great with GarageBand and Logic Express 9.

[44 W] Having a home Studio consisting of 2 rooms of Analog and Digital this Tascam interface is great. The onboard Digital Mixing Console is great for those who do not have a physical console.

[14.835 lb] I use this with four analog microphones to capture presentations for hybrid meetings involving Zoom. This works very well. Online participants can hear what is being said at the meeting and the output of the interface feeds well into the sound system so the in-person attendees hear what is being said via the Zoom participants. Each mic output has its own volume control. Problem solved.

[Black] This interface does everything I need it to do and more. I am finally able to record my drum kit in to Garage Band using multiple microphones with a separate track for each. Works awesome. there are more features that will come in handy like the pre amps for when I record to tape. I highly recommend this unit.

[Black] Cool that it can be a standalone mic pre, tho I haven't needed that. The mixer and fx function well.

[Black] I ended up getting this audio interface after looking into the available options. Some of the other options seemed to be very hyped up, but a little digging showed some of the products failing after a short period of time.

This one flew under the radar but had some great reviews, particularly the one from Julian Krause on YouTube. The price was great and, so far, it's working as advertised.

Amazingly quick delivery by B&H!
