Featuring an aluminum frame with small built-in magnets, the 550nm Kolari Vision Infrared Magnetic Filter Canon RF 550nmfrom Kolari Vision Infrared Magnetic Filter Canon RF 550nmsecures magnetically to the camera mount, and your lens then mounts on top. The filter sits securely between the camera and lens. It's compatible with the Canon EOS R, R5, R6, and RP. Specifically for the Canon RP camera, a mag mount accessory is included. The Canon RP doesn't have the steel elements necessary to support magnetic attachment of this filter. The mag mount has adhesive strips that provide a solution.

This 550nm version requires a full spectrum modification to be made to your camera in order to function properly. This entails manually removing the camera's low-pass filter and replacing it with a clear filter. Once that's done, this 550nm filter will work as intended to block visible light up to 550nm from the light spectrum. (Kolari Vision can make the modification for you at a cost if you send in your camera to them.)

The filter material of the clip-in filter is glass. A small removal tool is included but not required. The compact tool looks like a guitar pick and is included just in case, as the filter can easily be removed by hand.

Q: 1. RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM (can only be used within 300-500mm range). What does 300-500 range mean? So while on my New R5 (on order) what happens between the 100-300 portion of the zoom?

A: When you're using the RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM with the teleconverter, it will not allow you to set the lens to anything less than 300mm in focal length due to the design of the teleconverter and rear internals of the lens. Basically, you won't be able to zoom wider than 300mm when using the teleconverter.

Q: 2. Is it weather-sealed?

A: Yes it is weather sealed.

Q: 3. Why in the world would this not work with the RF 70-200 2.8 Please tell me they just overlooked this?

A: Unfortunately, the RF 70-200 2.8 's rear glass give the converter no space. So it isn't compatible.

Q: 4. Can this converter be used with the RF 24-240mm?

A: No, so far this converter only works with; RF 100-500mm f/4.5-7.1L IS USM (can only be used within 300-500mm range) RF 600mm f/11 IS STM RF 800mm f/11 IS STM

Q: 5. Does either one of the two 2x TC config work? 1] R5 -2x (rf) - RF/EF adapter - 100/400 II (ef) 2] R5-RF/EF Adapter-2x TC (EF) - 100/400 II(EF)

A: The EF-to-RF adapter doesn't properly mount to the RF-teleconverters due to the optical tube. You'll need to use option 2.

Q: 6. if used with RF 100-500mm, can damage the lenses if try to use it below 300mm by mistake? does it hits the internal glass?

A: Yes the lens can potentially be damaged if using it below 300mm with the extender.

Q: 7. Does the Canon RF Extender 1.4x change minimum focal length of a lens?

A: Teleconverters will change the minimum and maximum focal length of a lens. However, they will not affect the minimum focus distance.

Q: 8. CAN IT WORK FULLY WITH RF 70-200 F 2.8 LENS?

A: Unfortunately not. Currently there aren't any Canon Teleconverters that work with the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM Lens.

Q: 9. Will the auto-focus on the R5 work with RF Extender 2X and RF 100-500 lens?

A: Yes, autofocus is available when using the RF Extender 2X with the RF 100-500mm lens while mounted on the EOS R5.

Q: 10. Can I use this extender with the Canon RF 100-400 F5.6-8 IS USM lens?

A: Yes, you can use the Canon Extender RF 1.4x with the Canon RF 100-400mm lens.

[Aluminum] It is a filter with the appropriate settings for use in both photos and videos, especially when the sunlight is not strong or the day is cloudy. Additionally, its internal use makes it convenient by eliminating the need to recalibrate a gimbal when removing or attaching it. It has a minimal impact on the white balance, which is very easy to correct. Highly convenient as with just one filter, I can use an infinite variety of lenses.

[5.3 x 5 x 1"] Infrared takes a hole lot of experimenting. If you convert a camera I would say make a Full Spectrum Conversion. After that a full set of filters to se your options. This filter is one of the most user friendly filters you can get for it. Have fun with it if you get it.

[0.225 lb] Best high quality filter for my infrared photography. Very happy with it.

[Dedicated] I love the colors; the filter snaps into the Canon adapter and fits snugly. The Vari ND wheel spins somewhat freely, similar to the canon version. I wish it had some more tension on the wheel so it would feel more solid. But in no way effects the performance, it's superior to the canon in my opinion.

[Aluminum] This filter case is made well and the magnetic latch is secure. I have not tried a drop test but I see no need to.

[Aluminum] I use a wide range of lenses, from cheap primes to large zooms, and my filter sizes vary across the range. With these clip-in filters, I can attach ND filters and shoot video with both RF and adapted EF lenses with no issues.

This 6 stop ND was perfect for shooting a music video outside in sunny Los Angeles, and the 1/8 Mist had just a hint of glow to highlights without killing the contrast.

I own all three 1/8 mist (0-stop, 3-stop, and 6-stop), and I have one in my camera at all times. Looking to try the 1/4 mist at some point to compare.

[5.3 x 5 x 1"] Picked this up for use on my Canon R5C and I'm very impressed with the overall build quality. This is my first product by Kolari, but they have been on my radar for years with the Infrared conversions and magnetic filters they make. Happy to say this adapter and drop-in filters are very well built. The auto-focus features and communication with lens to camera has so far been perfect with my Sigma EF lenses, so I'm very pleased with that. The filters themselves are super clean and do not appear to have any color shifts or aberrations. And best of all, the control wheel for the VND is actually the right amount of resistance! Doesn't budge if you bump it (like the Canon brand one), but smoothly spins when you need to adjust it. At this price point, I'd recommend this kit over the Canon OEM alternative all day.

[5.3 x 5 x 1"] After long ago exploring IR images with Kodak chemical films, I purchased the Kolari K665Pro and K720Pro to use on a stock Canon EOS 5D Mark IV and Canon lenses. I chose the Kolari Pro series for their sharp cutoff spectra as well as their filter coatings compared to Kolari's base series or Hoya. The Kolari Pro quality / performance / price point trade-offs were great IMHO. Starting with the 665, I set the camera for manual exposure (typically bracketing around +2) and manual focus (typically longer focus settings), and the stock sensors pick up enough red for good composition and control. It has been a short learning curve and I am most pleased with the images that the Kolari filters are generating: awesome black and white landscapes, cloudscapes, and waterscapes, and excellent starting points for post-processed color shots (native red hue or channel swapped)! No discernible color aberration until I push the image magnification to its pixel limits. The coatings have been great with tough lighting angles - no flares - and stay remarkably clean in windy, dusty environments! Continuing experiments with the 720, which pushes the limits of the stock sensors but still works well. Highly recommend the Kolari 665Pro for anyone getting into IR!!!

[5.3 x 5 x 1"] Works great on full spectrum cameras. Lets you get into the deep infrared on 720nm or higher converted cameras.
