The BETA 87A features a condenser capsule engineered with a wide 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and a controlled proximity effect to deliver crisp and detailed vocals for performances and presentations. The mic has been designed to resist handling noise, while the narrow supercardioid pickup pattern allows it to consistently reject sound at its off-axis points and deliver high immunity to feedback—great for use on stage when sound reinforcement equipment is deployed. A hardened steel grille resists wear and abuse.

  • GLX-D+ Dual-Band Digital Wireless systems operate in both the 2.4 and 5.8 GHz frequency ranges, automatically scanning both to select the one that offers the higher number of clean channels.
  • The system offers true digital diversity, which means two antennas and two independent receiver modules work together to reduce RF signal dropouts.
  • In addition, the GLX-D+ transmits on its own main frequency just like a traditional system, but it also transmits on 2 extra "backup frequencies" at the same time. If the system detects interference on the main frequency, it will switch to one of the backups automatically without the user even knowing.

  • The GLXD2+ handheld transmitter runs on an intelligent SB904 rechargeable lithium-ion battery (included).
  • The battery provides up to 12 hours of continuous use on a full charge.
  • The SB904 battery can be recharged in the GLXDR4+ receiver's charging bay (located on the front panel). The charging bay can also be used to recharge a spare battery while the transmitter is in use.
  • Alternately, the SB904 can be recharged while in the handheld transmitter with a USB charging cable.
  • Just a 15-minute quick charge provides 1.5 hours of use.
  • The SB904's remaining battery life is displayed in hours and minutes from the receiver's front panel.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use the Canon flash compensation instead of the iphone app?

A: This transmitter is for simple TTL control. You need the app to make any adjustments with this controller.

Q: 2. Does the mic have a mute button? If not can you mute mics from the receiver?

A: There is no mute button on the transmitter or receiver of the Shure SLXD24D/B58 Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Handheld Microphone System with Beta 58 Capsules. Any muting would need to be done via the mixing desk.

Q: 3. I was told that the Nikon version of the Profoto Connect works as a ‘Universal’ remote when used in manual mode, and will work on both Fuji and Canon to trigger the lights. Can someone please verify this before I make a purchase? Thank you!

A: Yes the center pin is universal and works with most cameras on manual , NO TTL or HSS

Q: 4. Does this pair with any gooseneck mic system from Shure ?

A: The Shure SLXD24D/SM58 only works with other Shure SLX-D components. There are no Shure wireless SLX-D gooseneck systems.

Q: 5. I HAD THE BLX2 88 OLD MODEL WITH ANTENNAS,AND 2 SM58A MIC,I LIKE TO ADD ON BLX288/58, ARE THEY CAN BE WORK TOGETHER? THANKS, RICK.

A: Yes, you can use the Shure BLX288/B58 Dual-Channel Wireless Handheld Microphone System with Beta 58A Capsules and your older Shure BLX series wireless microphone system at the same time. It doesn't matter whether the two systems operate on different frequency bands or if they both are on the same band. Since the BLX series system has 123 individual frequencies within the band, up to 12 BLX series systems that operate on the same band can be used at the same time within a 300 foot range without any problems.

Q: 6. I have old 819 floor mic that has very low sensitivity. Desire to use the new preamp but need this cable to connect it to the floor mic 3 pins. Is the new preamp compatible with the old mic? Looking forward to a boost in gain and may be a lower noise? Please advise do expect a wiring change may be needed.

A: I believe it is, same pin type and there wouldn't be any need to wire differently. To be sure I would contact Shure (no pun).

Q: 7. What can this do that the AirTTL can't do?

A: This remote is designed for simplicity. No buttons or settings to fiddle with. Only one group to control automatically. The AirTTL is more capable and full featured.

Q: 8. How many lights can this transmitter control?

A: The remote has only one group. You could use two lights but they will have the same settings.

Q: 9. Will this system work within a studio setting? Will the signal travel through a block wall?

A: You can use the Shure SLXD24D/SM58 Dual-Channel Digital Wireless Handheld Microphone System in a studio setting if you keep the receiver in the same room as the transmitters and run a longer cable from the receiver output to the inputs on the mixer. The signal will not transmit through cinder block walls.

Q: 10. Is this compatible with the D800?

A: This product is not compatible with the Nikon D800.

[10 mW] I recently converted my Shure SM58 wireless mic into a Beta 87A by purchasing this new cartridge. It makes the mic a bit lighter and a bit shorter, but the purpose of switching it out was to reduce feedback, and so far that it has done!!!Glad to have made this purchase.Thanks!!... This was the lowest price I could find on the internet, as well.

[Proprietary] Outstanding clarity on vocals. Fantastic resistance to proximity effect. Need to mic an acoustic? Slap it right up there and go. This mic is great for male and female vocals, along with various sundry uses as well. If you need to upgrade your SM series mic to something better, this is your choice. This is my GO TO vocal mic.

[12 Hours ] I didn't know condenser mic needs 48v to power up. At first, I thought I got the defective unit, until one of my friend instructed me how to proper use it. This mic has great sound, very good for worshipping at Church. I highly recommended.

[Auto-Scan] We had an old ULXP from 2007. it still works and everything work fine, but the way this digital captures the audio is so much better.
on the old one i had to give it lots of eq. this new one i only have to eq a little bit. i had to apply lots of gain and high gate on the old one but with this one my gain is not as much and my gate has been lowered significantly. the mic does great at adjusting its own gain. i have not had issue with feedback yet. i love that it uses AA batteries.
so even if you dont buy the rechargable battery pack, you wont spend a fortune on batteries. the old ULXP uses 9v batteries and those are pricey. THe mic feels great in your hand, the metal housing really gives it a different feel. I use the mic on 10mw setting and i havent had issues with transmission. RX is 70 feet away and no issues. i Believe its worth the extra 250 to go from QLXD to ULXD models. if your debating if Q or U, spend the extra 250 and get the U, you wont regret it.

[50 Hz to 20 kHz] One of our mics disappeared the day before an important event. B&H had the unit in stock, and I was able to pick it up on my way home! These mics are sturdy, easy to use and sync with the multiple receivers in our facility, and we can get good levels before feedback.

[2420 mAh ] The Beta 87A plays well with live spoken and sung voice when a sound system is in use, and sounds good for recording too. My only criticism is that the optional foam windscreen lets too many pops through--but there are other choices for that which will work better. This is a high quality mic, with an extended, clear top end, good overall balance, low noise floor and plenty of headroom for loud sound sources. And it is very reasonably priced--a real bargain.
