Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. I can't find any 88mm clip on MB adapters from ARRI. Is there any other alternative to use these with the LMB?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster S35 20, 35 & 50mm T1 Cine 3-Lens Bundle (Canon RF) have 77mm filter threads, the front diameter is 88mm, but this doesn't mean you need an 88mm clip necessarily, just 77mm.

Q: 2. Does this work with canon 6D Mark II?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Canon EF is compatible with the Canon 6D Mark II.

Q: 3. which version is this?

A: Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Canon EF is the version III.

Q: 4. What focal length would it be on the BMPCC 4k?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi 17mm T1 Speedmaster Cine Lens (MFT) will be 17mm on the Blackmagic Design Pocket Cinema Camera 4K. If curious about the crop factor compared to a full-frame sensor, it will be 30mm.

Q: 5. What is the warranty on this lens?

A: Yes, Limited 5-Year Warranty.

Q: 6. Are the color and contrast fairly consistent between lenses in this set? It would be nice to see some data on this.

A: Yes, the Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster kit is color is consistent over the different focal lengths.

Q: 7. Is 88mm the front diameter or another diameter measurement?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster S35 20mm T1 Cine Lens's front diameter, as quoted by the manufacturer is 88mm.

Q: 8. Does this lens provide focal plane illumination that is sufficiently near telecentric to allow the f/2.8 pixel condensers in the Canon focal plane to work, out to the corners of the image?

A: The Mitakon Zhongyi Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 Lens for Canon EF (B&H# MI50095CEF), while non tele-centric, will allow for cameras possessing a Canon EF mount to attain critical focus throughout the focal plane. Naturally, there is some curvature to that. As is always the case with fast prime lenses, the center is sharpest, but by about f/2 the image circle in general is sharp enough for typical photographic portraiture usage in even the non central region of the frame. Of course, whether or not that is enough for your usage will depend on your needs and preferences. Stop down to f/8 to achieve the wider depth of field that you need if you want the corners to be their sharpest despite natural field curvature.

Q: 9. Wondering if this will fit on a Red Epic-M with a Leica Mount. This is a camera with a non-exchangeable OLPF so I won’t be able to use a Leica OLPF.

A: It has a Leica mount. It is a 50mm so it does not have a protruding rear element. Therefore if should fit. This is a test situation since there are no reports of its use because it is not yet available form B&H.

Q: 10. Is this compatible with megadap adapter?

A: Yes this would be compatible and work with a Megadap adapter such as this: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1604791-REG/venus_optics_mtz11_megadap_leica_m_lens.html

[Super35/APS-C] I read a lot of bad reviews. My experience is that this lens is great!! Yes, the T.1 is soft, but I always use a Tiffen Black Pro-Mist 1 Filter for my films. So, to me, I enjoy that characteristic of a softer look at T.1. I have also seen reviews saying that chromatic aberration is too much. To me, people in post-production that I work with, spend tons of money on plugins to emulate that characteristic alone. So, to have it in lens already is pretty dope. ALso, this lens comes with a awesome hard case!

The manual focus is no problem for me personally. I have honestly never truly used autofocus much at all in my career. The lens is on the heavier side. Personally, I am very active (I work out, play basketball, and golf) so holding this 4Ib lens vs a 2.5Ib lens from Sigma is virtually the same for me.

The focus without a focus puller is very smooth. If you use manual focus already and don't use / own a focus puller, then you won't need one with this lens in my opinion. My hands are small, and I can still focus relatively easily with my hands alone. Now, I did buy this lens new and not used. So that may be why there are bad reviews regarding the focus.

Overall to have a T.1 is unbeatable to me. Yes, the image is softer but that's why we have post-production (color grading in Davinci). This lens has a character that is hard to reproduce in post-production. I look at the cons as a win as a creator!

[T16] This is one of the best cine lenses that I've used. It is soft wide open but gives you a good halation effect when shooting indoors especially when you're using practical lights like lamps fairies small accent LEDs. For the price it offers quite a bit of amazing features one of them is zero breathing. I am waiting for a wide angle version of this lens may be a 25 mm or 24 mm to add to my collection. The build quality is on par with that of the Zeiss. It is quite heavy but I do like the heft it keeps my camera stable. Right now I use it on my red dragon as well as my black magic pocket cinema camera. This is a great investment.

[77 mm] I bought this lens for my Blackmagic 4K, and I love the quality footage it produces. You can't beat the price for such a fast cine lens! It's well-built, too.
