Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What are the differences between the pro and the non-pro version?

A: New Shark chipset, Black Face, extended remote better audio specs that match the ADI2 DAC FS.

Q: 2. Will the Digiface work as USB class-compliant audio interface for Akai Force with firmware 3.1?

A: The Akai Force USB ports are for using USB drives for loading samples. You can also use the included cable to use the Akai Force as an audio interface for your computer. The Akai Force does not have ADAT I/O for compatibility with the RME Digiface. The RME Digiface would require a USB power source if you wanted to be able to run it without a computer.

Q: 3. Is Digiface USB, USB class compliant?

A: Yes it is: The Digiface USB has a Class Compliant mode. Like any audio interface the Digiface USB should have a data transmission to the computer as undisturbed as possible. The easiest way to guarantee this is to connect it to its own bus, which should be no big problem as most USB 2.0 interfaces are a double bus design. A check in the Device Manager can be done as follows: ¾ Connect the Digiface USB to a USB port ¾ Start the Device Manager, View set to Devices by Connection ¾ Select ACPI x86-based PC, Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System, expand PCI Bus

Q: 4. Is the Madiface Audio USB class compliant? (Not MIDI) How does one set it to class complaint mode?

A: Compatibility: OS Compatibility Windows 7 Windows 8 macOS 10.6 or Later Please see the mnual: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/95628.pdf

Q: 5. Can this be utilized as USB audio interface for Akai Force Firmware 3.1?

A: Possibly. We do not test interfaces with third party software or hardware.

Q: 6. Does the CD player connect to the Analog Inputs in the back panel? What type of cable connectors should be used? RCA?

A: The best way to connect a consumer CD player to this unit would be to utilize either the S/PDIF Coaxial or S/PDIF Optical digital inputs. The analog inputs are balanced 1/4-inch TRS or XLR, and usually connect to professional audio gear, such as a mixing board or a CD player, such as the Tascam CD-500B Single-Rackspace CD Player (Balanced), BH #TACD500B.

Q: 7. Can I use it to acquire SPDIF signal with my computer?

A: No. SPDIF is a digital audio signal, therefore would not be a signal that a computer would recognize. Coumputers can process analog audio in and out, OR digital audio through USB.

Q: 8. Can you digitize vinyl records from an analog turntable or would baby face be better choice since it has a pre-amp?

A: The Babyface has microphone preamps. It would be helpful to know whether the turntable you will be using has phono level output or line level output. If the output is line level, then you can use any USB audio interface that accepts line level input to digitize vinyl. If the output level from the turntable is phono level, then you will need a phono preamp specifically for use with turntables such as the Rolls VP29 Phono Preamp (B&H # ROVP29), Bellari VP549 Phono Preamp (B&H # BEVP549), or ART Precision Phono Preamp for Turntables (B&H # ARPRECPHN). The ART USB Phono Plus Phono Preamp with USB (B&H # ARUSBPPPS) also features a built-in USB audio interface.

Q: 9. Is it possible to use the BNC connection as external Word Clock and MADI input at the same time? Thank you

A: Yes, the BNC MADI coaxial connections on the RME MADIface USB 128-Channel USB Interface can be used for an external Word Clock and for MADI input at the same time when using the RME Settings app.

Q: 10. Is the DSD in this model a Quad-DSD (DSD256)?

A: This device can handle DSD256 playback.

[Green] I replaced the power supply after the original wire broke.

[1] Worked as described. The only issue was these new boards have a plug for the power input leads/ground and the older units have the leads soldered. If you can solder, no issue. I was lazy and bought a cable set from RME. Here's a pic: old supply on left, new on right with additional cable set. Power input leads are on top of the boards.

[AC Input] I've used Universal Audio, Apogee, Motu, and even Lynx interfaces over the years (30 years) - and I have now had this RME Ucx ii for two weeks, and I can see why RME owners are so loyal, and why these devices get great reviews - the stuff just works, and it's just so apparent how much thought went into the design. And the mic pres are actually no joke - they sound great, and they have tons of clean gain. I'm also pretty impressed by the quality of the DSP internal effects - I think the compression + delay/reverb sound great! The EQ? Eh, whatever... FabFilter.

No dropouts, no glitches, no hiccups. Obviously, it's only been a couple of weeks, but the fact that I feel the desire to write a review must show something, as there are plenty of other things I could be doing right now w my time, including music production work - which now feels that much more joyful.

Lynx is definitely one small step above conversion-wise, but honestly - the difference is pretty nominal. I use a Lynx Aurora (n) + an Api 2448 at work, and I feel the stuff is translating really well to this RME.

I purchased this UCX ii because I was using an Apogee Element at home, and they basically stopped supporting it and discontinued the product, and it works very poorly with a Macbook M1pro. Glitchy - slow - crashes. The RME sounds as good if not better than that and just works - not a single hiccup in 2 straight weeks of working with heavy sessions. For the size, this thing is a POWERFUL BEAST and has to be the best audio interface in its class.

If your thinking about expanding and portability isn't an issue, it may make sense to jump up to the UFX line, you get quite a bit more for another 1K.

Enjoy-

[1] I use this with Logic Pro on a 2021 MBP for recording, monitoring, mixing, and mastering in both stereo and 5.1, mostly for scoring and soundtracking. It has a clear, open, sound that accurately represents even very subtle changes to mix, EQ, soundstage, or plugin settings. Mic Preamps sound sweet and clean and will let the character of your mic shine through. The build is solid, and the knob and buttons have a nice click to them. It has a dazzling number of inputs and outputs for its size, and TotalMix gives the user super powerful routing options. Once configured, TotalMix makes it easy to jump between stereo and 5.1. My only caveat is that this is a professional tool, and if you are relatively new to this line of work, there will be a learning curve to understand all of the options the interface has and the concepts behind TotalMix. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy it, it is 100% worth it to take the time to learn, and RME has excellent tutorials. This interface will honestly represent what you play through it and will give you the power to create the recording you envision.

[0.6 lb] If your Fireface dies, this will fix it - most likely.

No instructions supplied, but fairly obvious once opened. To open the unit: 8 screws on top, 4 screws on bottom sides - no need to do the four screws on bottom front attaching the face to the frame, 2 screws on each rack ear. Inside, 4 screws and washers attaching power supply to frame, 2 plugs on power supply. Should take about 15 minutes to do.

Take care with the small screws that can strip easily - find a small pointy Phillips driver and apply good downward force to keep the blade in the screw until it breaks loose. I found that my Swiss Army knife driver worked pretty well.

[Green] Hard to get excited about a wall-wart - but I am. A switching power source, with options for different plug configurations... this is the power supply I've been waiting for from Sennheiser. International gigs will be SO much simpler now...

[0.6 lb] Easy swap for my Fireface 800 power supply, the input section was slightly different then my original (my old one was hard wired, this new one is set for a socket), Fireface boots much faster now, seems better then new!

[1] I went from an Apogee to this RME and the stability, recall ability and routing functionality is amazing! I really love this thing!

[0.6 lb] I had an Apollo Solo (Windows USB) and needed to sitch to an interface that was Mac/Windows compatible. After watching a number of YouTube reviews and reading Reddit threads, I opted for the Fireface. It works great. I really appreciate the number of inputs and the totalmix software is excellent. Sound quality is noticeably better than the other interfaces I have. It comes at a premium price, but I think it's still good value.
