Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can I use it to acquire SPDIF signal with my computer?

A: No. SPDIF is a digital audio signal, therefore would not be a signal that a computer would recognize. Coumputers can process analog audio in and out, OR digital audio through USB.

Q: 2. Can i use the xlr outputs to my Mcintosh c47 preamp even though it has a built in preamp?

A: Unfortunately not, if you use the XLR outputs, there is no way to bypass the preamps and connecting 2 preamps in series will generate feedback and low frequency rumble.

Q: 3. Is this the latest model with the ESS 9028 chip?

A: Yes, the RME ADI-2 DAC FS Ultra-Fidelity PCM/DSD 768 kHz DA Converter stock at B&H, at the time of this writing, includes the latest version of the ESS D/A chip.

Q: 4. Can you digitize vinyl records from an analog turntable or would baby face be better choice since it has a pre-amp?

A: The Babyface has microphone preamps. It would be helpful to know whether the turntable you will be using has phono level output or line level output. If the output is line level, then you can use any USB audio interface that accepts line level input to digitize vinyl. If the output level from the turntable is phono level, then you will need a phono preamp specifically for use with turntables such as the Rolls VP29 Phono Preamp (B&H # ROVP29), Bellari VP549 Phono Preamp (B&H # BEVP549), or ART Precision Phono Preamp for Turntables (B&H # ARPRECPHN). The ART USB Phono Plus Phono Preamp with USB (B&H # ARUSBPPPS) also features a built-in USB audio interface.

Q: 5. Is the DSD in this model a Quad-DSD (DSD256)?

A: This device can handle DSD256 playback.

Q: 6. Is this RME ADI2 DAC the updated version that comes with the AK4493 AKM decoder?

A: Yes. This comes with the most recent AK4493 upgrade.

Q: 7. can RME ADI 2 DAC be powerful enough to drive Audeze lcd 3?

A: No it is not. The built-in headphone amplifier provides low THD values even with 32- or 16-Ohm headphones,

Q: 8. Can I use it to input coaxial SPDIF signal into my computer?

A: No. SPDIF is a digital audio signal, therefore would not be a signal that a computer would recognize.

Q: 9. What are the differences between this unit and their Pro version that costs $1999?

A: The ADI-2 Pro FS R model two balanced headphone outs, two analog combo XLR/TRS 1/4-inch inputs, optical SPDIF I/O that also understands ADAT, and coaxial SPDIF (RCA) and AES I/O (XLR) via an included breakout cable. These features make the Pro model more versatile and capable of being a high fidelity audio interface for a computer. The ADI2 DAC FS is an excellent DAC, with all of the DSP , equalization and digital to analog audio conversion quality you would expect from RME, but does not have the analog inputs or other extra features mentioned above.

Q: 10. Can the adi-2 pro FS be used as an audio interface to record analog input to Adobe audition and other DAW?

A: Yes this will act as an interface for direct input into your computer.

[0.31 lb] I rarely use the phrase blown away, but that came to mind when I started using the RME ADI-2 DAC FS, paired with a Sennheiser 560S. The clarity and separation was significantly better than any DAC I've used before (which have all cost less than the RME ADI-2). I use it mainly with headphones, but have hooked it up with my legacy amp and tower speakers (HK and Polk), with excellent results. I will hold off a bit on upgrading my system thanks to the RME. In short, I think the RME ADI-2 is in a sweet spot when it comes to performance and price; it's not cheap, but you get a superb DAC.
I should mention that I had an issue with my first RME ADI-2. After a few hours of use it gave an error message: Overload/short detected, phones deactivated. This seems to indicate a problem with the motherboard, and the only remedy is to send it back to the manufacturer. Not sure how common this is, but B&H made sure I had a replacement unit within 48 hours- excellent support! - and no issues with the new unit.

[6 x 2 x 2"] I purchased this after doing bit of research on a few audiophile forums for a DA converter to stick on front of a tube amp for headphones. Tunable for EQ. I have been using my iPhone and MacBook Pro to stream hi-res music from Spotify, Tidal and Qobuz via USB and outputting on the internal headphone amp. It is most detailed listening I have ever done. Quite a value. Pairing it with Audeze LCD-3, LCD-X and Sennheiser HD800's. All sound amazing. A rare treat for the price.

[0.31 lb] Worked as described. The only issue was these new boards have a plug for the power input leads/ground and the older units have the leads soldered. If you can solder, no issue. I was lazy and bought a cable set from RME. Here's a pic: old supply on left, new on right with additional cable set. Power input leads are on top of the boards.

[Green] I use this along with the DC 2 - DC Camera Power Converter to set up wireless speakers systems using Sennheiser body pack style transmitters and receivers. This power supply was originally designed for video camera battery charging but when used with the DC 2 Power Converter, you can create AC power to your transmitters and receivers instead of needing batteries or always wondering if your rechargeable battery is charged. This investment to my company was WELL worth the money! After 15 years of running speaker cables, taping down walk ways, taping over door ways and worrying about cable damage from being stepping on, heavy carts rolling over, getting pinched in doorways etc, I never have to worry about that again! I run all my systems now wirelessly with ease and convenience!

[6 x 2 x 2"] If your Fireface dies, this will fix it - most likely.

No instructions supplied, but fairly obvious once opened. To open the unit: 8 screws on top, 4 screws on bottom sides - no need to do the four screws on bottom front attaching the face to the frame, 2 screws on each rack ear. Inside, 4 screws and washers attaching power supply to frame, 2 plugs on power supply. Should take about 15 minutes to do.

Take care with the small screws that can strip easily - find a small pointy Phillips driver and apply good downward force to keep the blade in the screw until it breaks loose. I found that my Swiss Army knife driver worked pretty well.

[6 x 2 x 2"] After finding my current DAC doesn't have the best specs I decided to buy this RME ADI-2 based upon a review from audiosciencereview dot com. It appears to be a balanced review site for DACs with lots of measurement data and graphs. Anyway, this ADI-2 unit is German-made and solid, the remote is Chinese-made although of high quality. I can't hear any difference but I haven't done a side-by-side either. Given that I'm running this through Klipsch La Scala's/Cornwalls via McIntosh amps I want the sound as clean as I can get it. I'm happy.

[AC Input] I got this as an upgrade to the iFi Zen DAC and WH-1000XM4 combination. I paired it up with some Focal Radiance cans and I couldn't be happier!!! I bought this DAC for its versatility and I LOVE all the options available. As many YouTube reviewers have said, the menu getting to those options is rough, but once you get your settings dialed, in you don't touch them anyway. The EQ let me dial the bass, mids, and treble just like I wanted them. Once the Radiance's burned in, the sound was incredible. But I found myself looking for even more enhancement and I found it in the roon audio player. I had been using Audirvana and was instantly blown away at how much better roon sounded. I subscribed right away and anyone reading this should too.

So I got three upgrades to my previous setup in less than a week. This DAC easily blows away the Zen DAC in sound quality with more options. The Radiance cans have so much clarity over the XM4's I was using and roon was the finishing touch. This is my first DAC near this price point and I can't recommend it enough!!!

[AC Input] I've only used it as a headamp so far, but given how precisely this was made, I imagine it would be just as great as a DAC. The sound is crisp without being overly analytical. Warmer than I'd expected with richness in the lower frequencies. Beautiful display. There are a few competitors with slightly better objective performance, but it's all sub-audible. This one blows them away in features.
