[Black] I got one of these to add to my DS2419+ and it has worked flawlessly. It's a good way to expand capacity at a much lower cost than an additional NAS. Plus I can manage it all from one spot rather than needing to log into two separate NAS units. The only downside is that if the main unit breaks, I have no choice but to fix it because I need it to operate this expansion unit. But I'm okay with that risk.

[Black] I have been using Synology DS3617xs NAS Server for more than 3 years and wanted to expand the volume. Synology DX1215II is the most energy efficient and one of the most easiest expansion unit I have handled thus far. It's a simple plug and play; and you can manage the drives in any RAID configuration in the DSM.


Plus, I think it's the cheap 12 bay expansion unit i the market.


Also, works like a charm with any Seagate HDD - Exos, Ironwolf.

[Black] There's not a lot to say about the unit. Put disks in it, connect it to the NAS, power it on, and within a few minutes you've got lots more room for a new volume. It uses an InfiniBand link to the NAS, so performance is just as good as if the disks were directly connected. It also powers on and off in sync with the NAS. Good stuff!

[Black] Utilizing with the RS815plus. Allowed me to expand my storage utilizing smaller hard drives that were previously removed from the '815. Synology recommends creating a new volume hosted on this unit only, due to the performance hit with having a single volume communicating over the eSata cable. With its own volume there's no performance difference from the primary volume on the '815. Highly recommend if you need more storage.

[Black] Hopefully you are aware that this unit is an expansion, and does nothing on its own. I've had a DS3617xs for a couple of years now, and finally maxed it out, and this expansion unit has been working perfectly for me for a couple weeks now, giving me a total of 24 bays to work with. It provides power and cooling, and supports both 3.5 and 2.5 SATA drive bays out of the box. Also included are the drive caddies, screws for mounting 2.5 drives to the included caddies (3.5 drives fit without screws), the Synology cable that connects this unit up to the main unit, and the power cable (standard NEMA).


The only strange thing I've noticed is that drives installed in the main unit can be secure erased from within Synology's software, but drives mounted in the expansion unit cannot be. The software clearly explains this, but it was unexpected. Otherwise, I haven't found any limitations on the drives in this expansion unit.

[Black] The heaviness to it is nice. When you move it, it feels solid and not shaky. Goes in your backpack or luggage very easily. There are negatives but if you aware of them before buying you can make a workflow work for you. If you plan on shooting an external audio mic on top of the camera, be aware that it may pickup the gear wheel sound in the slider. If shooting lav or boom for most of your videos you are gravy. It also helps to by a tabletop tripod so you can use the slider on the ground or tables when a tripod is not necessary. I like this slider for the price, and a good stand-in until you can upgrade to the Edelkrone motion kit.

[Black] I really like the ability to choose leading or trailing edge (forward/reverse phase) dimming, It lets me be flexible and have the capability to dim just about anything I come across. There's a nice screw-down cover over the controls for the address/settings, keeping them safe & set until you want to change them. The one downside is that the cable inlet/outlets are on the back, so it's hard to place it temporarily.

[Black] Synology products have always been good to me. This expansion module did not disappoint. Great quality and worked flawlessly.
