[OM System BLX-1] I am just ecstatic with this product!! 6 months ago, when my job switched me to full time telecommuting, it was clear that I was going o have VERY important meetings vie zoom, Skype and teams. I could NOT use my cell phone or the whack webcam built into my iMac. I needed to figure out how to use my Olympus EM10 MIII mirrorless camera as a webcam so that I could stream with clear video for longer than an hour.  

My camera does NOT have a ac jack for power and the batteries last for 1 hour, tops. Even after I jumped through a million hoops and figured out how to use a capture card to connect my camera to my CPU as a webcam, in every meeting, my camera would die and I would replace it mid-meeting. I kept 3 fully charged batteries on standby at all times. That SUCKED!

With this, I no longer worry about my battery running out. It works perfectly!! I mean, PERFECTLY!! If you are using your Olympus camera as a webcam and you need a steady power supply, this works. I'm so glad it was released right before my first zoom deposition.

[1] The power source works perfectly in our Olympus OM-D E-M10 II & III cameras. For the E-M10 II camera you have to leave the battery hatch open, to accommodate the cord, but it still works fine.

[1] One of the Q&A’s says the Bescor BLS50AC dummy battery adapter kit is not compatible with the Olympus E-PL9.  I asked Bescor ( answers@bescor.com ) why the kit is compatible with the Olympus OM-D E-M5/M10, but not the Olympus Pen E PL9, since all three use the same Olympus BLS-50 battery.   The response was: “It will work. Your camera just needs to be added to our list.”

The Bescor is 8V 3A. The Olympus battery is 7.2V 1175 mAh (1.175A).  I did some online research to see if a device built for 7.2V could operate at 8V.  One person describing himself as an engineer posted that 7.4V
Lithium batteries actually span a 6V to 8.4v voltage range depending on state of charge of the battery.  Another “senior electrical engineer” said that because all devices are designed with some voltage tolerance value, a 7.4 volt device means 7.4 volt +/- 1 to 1.5 volts.  Still other posts indicated that you can use a
3A power adapter on a 1.5A device.  By logical extension, I figured (I don’t actually know) that since the PL9 uses a 7.2 volt battery, it is probably designed to also work at 8 volts, and is also okay running at 3A.

Based on the response from Bescor and the Internet voltage and amperage responses, I decided to purchase
the Bescor and use it with my PL9.  I haven’t seen any sign of overheating or other problems with this setup so far, but will update this review if that changes.

I did not deduct points for the need to leave the battery compartment open because I knew that would be the case when I bought it.

[OM System BLX-1] Used for hours-long interval astrophotography and solves having to interrupt my session to replace batteries! Great find!

[OM System BLX-1] I needed a dummy battery to power my Olympus mirrorless camera while using it for streaming. This option from Bescor does the job and I have had zero issues with it thus far.


I would recommend this product to anyone who is in need of powering their Olympus camera with an exterior power source.

[OM System BLX-1] I bought this for my Panasonic HC-X2 so I wouldn't have to rely on the battery for some indoor stationary shoots. Absolutely no problems using the unit. The plastic casing seems somewhat flimsy compared to the quality of the materials of the camera, but it looks like it can stand up to normal wear and tear.

[1] Everything fits ; the battery takes a charge. Ask me about it again in a year.

[OM System BLX-1] Nice to have this for document and slide scanning projects. Swapping batteries was tedious and problematic if not charged. B&H delivered a few days sooner than promised as well.

[OM System BLX-1] I needed this to power my D810 and convert my classes to online teaching. Now, I don't have to keep using/charging my batteries to shoot videos; this adapter kit solves the power issue and works exactly as described. My only concern is that the dummy battery seems weakly constructed and potentially could fail. Otherwise, this kit has been a lifesaver!
