[Aluminum] This cage adds necessary 1/4 threads to your gopro, still no idea why gopro doesn’t come with them from the factory.. some additional protection (not the lense). Only thing that might bother someone are the “release switches” for the camera it self and the battery door, they seem to be a little flimsy. Other than that, Looks great and serves the purpose.

[0.165 lb] The Ulanzi cage precisely fits the Hero8 and is an example of
good engineering and design. It is able to not only protect the case of the Hero but to also enable various accessories to be attached to it, not to mention the ability to screw on a ND or a polaroid filter.

[Aluminum] The Ulanzi vlogging cage is perfect for attaching lense filters and an external mic and light with the cold shoes. My GoPro mic adapter sits nice and securely in the holder. Great Quality and very durable!

[0.165 lb] This strap works well. I used it while zip lining and horseback riding and I didn't lose my camera.

The strap that allows the camera to swivel peaked my interest until I read the reviews about how easily it breaks. I'm content to not have the camera swivel, especially to ensure its security.

[0.165 lb] When the original GoPros first came out, I remember watching a video of someone shooting it with a rifle and blowing up cans of paint with the camera only a foot or so away from the explosion. GoPro cameras have a 'bomb-proof' reputation. Even with GoPro making the cameras waterproof without the plastic casing, I couldn't imagine ever needing a cage for one of these.


That was until I was tasked with capturing video of a large crane unloading several tons of rocks off river barges. I needed much more than just a plastic case if I wanted to mount this on the bucket of the crane. My bare minimum needs were a secure way to attach ND filters, a way to mount a safety chain to the camera and a much more reliable way to mount the camera than the flimsy plastic folding teeth that comes stock on the GoPro. This cage has it all.


PROS: VERY easy to assemble & disassemble, - the hinges lock securely and are easy to open, 1/4-20 screw holes (I screwed a 1/4-20 eye bolt to attach safety chain), fits GoPro Hero 9, full view of both front & rear screen, allows you to add the accessory to screw-in 52mm filters, and the cage battery door comes with a small magnetic adapter that allows you to use the camera with either the water-proof door attached, or detached so you can run the camera off AC or quickly charge it without removing the cage or cage door, with handy USB-C charge port.


CONS: Metal is much less forgiving than plastic - you have to CRANK down the GoPro screws to get the camera to not move. I highly recommend metal GoPro screws and a metal tool to tighten it.


Not necessarily a con for this, but the filter adapter screws into the cage - so the camera is trapped until you unscrew two small allen-head bolts.
