Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What is the screw thread on the end of the arm? I have a Lume Cube Panel and I want to be able to screw that on if I need only a small off-camera light. Will I need an adapter?

A: The stud on the end of the Combo Boom Stand has a 1/4" thread on one side and 3/8" on the other. The 1/4" side fits the bottom of the LumeCube panels.

Q: 2. Does anyone have any experience using a panel light with this stand?

A: This isn't made for a reflector, we recommend this, Impact Telescopic Collapsible Reflector Holder B&H # IMLDHT or Impact Multiboom Light Stand and Reflector Holder (13') BH #IMLSRH

Q: 3. What is a good bag i.e. one that does not cost as much as the boom stand?

A: If you are looking for an economically-priced case compatible for use with the Impact Combo Boom Stand (12.95') for storage and travel purposes, I would recommend the Ruggard Deluxe Padded 48" Tripod Case (Black), B&H # RUBD3048, or the Tenba T488 TriPak - for Tripod, Light Stand or Umbrella up to 47" long, B&H # TET488B, the K&M 21311 Carrying Case for Speaker/Light Stands(Black), B&H # KM21311, for your usage needs.

Q: 4. Will this work with elinchrom strobes?

A: As Elinchrom strobes have a light stand socket that is compatible with the standard 5/8 Baby stud on the Impact Combo Boom Stand - 12.95'. While it would be compatible with Elinchrom strobes, I would recommend to check the weight of your light and/or any light modifiers you will be using and ensure it fits the stand's maximum load limit. As indicated under the Specifications tab, when used as standard stand, the maximum load of the stand is 19.84 lbs (9.0 kg). When used at maximum extension, the maximum load of the stand is 4.4 lb (2.0 kg), and when used at maximum extension with 6 inclination, the maximum load of the stand is 2.0 lb (0.9 kg).

Q: 5. Will a sand bag help increase the weight limit? If not what's my next best option for approximately the same price?

A: The sand bag will help with keeping the stand balanced and from tipping over, but it will not increase the structural support. That being said, I chose this stand over the Manfrotto of the same design because the boom angle adjuster is significantly stronger.

Q: 6. Can you attached a gvm 800d light on it?

A: Yes a GVM 800D RGB panel can be attached on the end of this boom.

Q: 7. What all is included with this item? What gear comes with it? I looked at the In the Box tab, but I just wanted to make sure.

A: Mine came with the stand, boom arm, spigot, and empty sand bag.

Q: 8. At it's minimum height of 45 inches, this stand is too tall to fit into my travel bags. Will the top sections of the stand pull out from the base to make it more compact for travel, or are they fixed in the central column?

A: The Impact Combo Boom Stand (12.95') does not come apart to make the collapsed size smaller.

Q: 9. What are the maximum and minimum inclinations of this boom? I heard that it can support a maximum of 0.9kg at 6 inclination, can anyone explain this further? Thanks!

A: The stand can go 90-0 degrees. At 6 degrees which is almost horizontal and completely extended you cannot put more than 4.4 lbs of equipment on the boom. I also with most booms suggest using a sand bag on the bottom leg to help prevent it from falling over.

Q: 10. What’s the best bag for this stand?

A: The Tenba Tripak is a good bag, click the link below to view; https://bhpho.to/31QvyzH

[Optional] Purchased this to use my EIZO ColorEdge CG279X 27 inch monitor on set with a laptop travel attached to the side via a super clamp. Very sturdy. No real fear of tipping over so far. Could go a little higher, but since the stand spends most of it's no-set time beside my desk, the shorter height is appreciated.

[Aluminum] Very versatile light stand. Can be used either as a boom or a tall pole. Sturdy with a large footprint and fixture for counterweight for stability. Comes with a bag for the counterweight, but the user must provide the sand filling. Well worth the price.

[4] First thing I noticed is the impressive build of the stand. Very similar in quality to my Avenger (Manfrotto) light stands, that I've used for over a decade with zero issues. Love the design of how the entire unit fits within itself. I do interview set-ups remotely, regularly, and the design makes it easier to transport.

[4] This stand actually surprised me when I pulled it out of the box. Almost entirely made of metal. I have Impact heavy duty stands and the mounting spigot for the pin is made of plastic which has not failed but does make me nervous about heavy attachements. This stand is ALL metal and gives me lots of confidence. I will be using this to mount microphones at times but mostly lighting. I've hung some small pop-lights like the aputure MC and the Yongnuo YN360 light wand for a hair light during interview and it's great. I love that it fits into itself, makes it easy to transport and no need to lug around annoying extra parts for my c-stand.

[5/8" Receiver] Over the years, I've replaced all my aluminum light stands in the studio with steel and stands with wheels. The Lowboy is made of steel, has wheels, is incredibly strong, and makes it so easy to work with lights and panels that need to be lower than standard stands or that need to come from below my subject.

Roller stands make life so easy to move gear around the room and I find them to be invaluable.

Unlike other brands, the legs work very smoothly and don't require any break-in period The brakes are also easier to apply and release than many others I've used.

A great addition to my studio.

[Aluminum] This is a short, thick, fat, and solid stand with good wheels. I bought it for a tether tool table set up. It more than does the job. I was expecting a thinner post than the pictures lead me to believe. Pleasantly surprised!

For any of your low height needs, this stand should give you plenty of security confidence that it will do its job.

[Round] I use this along with an Impact CA-106 Junior to Baby Pin Adapter and the Impact 5/8 Locking Receiver Wall Plate to join with a large TV tray table to make a table for shooting tethered in my studio. This steel stand is super sturdy and the wheels make it convenient to roll around to various stations in my studio. This same setup could also be used with a small table surface for product photography, giving flexibility to roll the work space to various shooting stations--such as black background or white background.

[Black] The combo head style has a much thicker pole than the baby pin style allowing for more weight. The wheel are smooth and roll easily. Great for small use setups. The stand would not survive in a large scale productions with heavy loads fully extended and rolled around. The legs are the weakest point compared to a more expensive roller stand. But for a small studio rolling a monitor or LED fixture around this works great and will last a while.

We have ours built out as a web conference computer and camera setup. We mounted a camera on a fluid head using a Junior pin and have the built in baby pin locked in a horizontal position to mount a iMac to.
