[Analytics] I purchased this NVR for a simple two camera security system on my home. I bought a separate hard drive, which gave me twice the recording capacity for the same price as one that came pre-installed. Installation was easy, thanks to videos on YouTube. It came with the necessary connectors to install the hard drive. I installed the NVR , along with my cable modern and wifi router, in a pantry and it works fine. It is plugged into a good quality surge protector. It make a bit more noise that I expected, but it is not bothersome. Hopefully it will provide years of service.

Configuration was a breeze, but it must be done locally. That is, hook up the monitor and USB mouse directly. After that you can disconnect the monitor and the mouse and manage the unit headless by iVMS-4200 software installed on a PC or Mac on the local network. Or remotely, but to do that, the configuration is a bit more complex.

I use it with a mix of genuine US Hikvision cameras and cheap ONVIF-compatible cameras. I do not use the cloud, because I configured remote access.

Going from QNAP NAS to the Hikvision NVR was like a night and day experience. This is a rock solid NVR. Feature-rich, configurable, full time recording without skipping a beat, remote access and playback though the Hik Connect mobile app are just a few things to mention. The Hik Connect mobile app is also very good and easy to use, unlike most other Chinese-made apps that are buggy, filled with spelling errors in the UI. And YES, unlike the NXI Acusense model, the firmware in this model is regularly updated and email notifications work properly.

The unit is well built but it is loud. Unless you are are hearing impaired you will not be able to keep it in a living room, bedroom, or media room. It works for me because I keep it in a utility room.

[Analytics] After having used programs for years like Zoneminder CCTV and Shinobi CCTV on standard desktop computers, decided to switch full time to a Hikvision DVR.


4 Hikvision cameras at 2MP recording 24/7. The DVR has a nice feature of recognizing people, and not having many false positives due to lighting changes (sun/cloud/etc). With playback, can choose for the DVR to just play back the videos with people. Alerting zones can be set as well.
Have a wireless mouse plugged into the unit too.


With the cooling fan in the unit (this unit has a power brick outside the unit), don't expect to be putting this DVR in your regular living space. The stock fan (DVR date code August 2022 on box) is quite noisy and the high pitched noise does slightly dissipate with use, but not enough. I have replaced the fan with a Noctua NF-A4x20 FLX (40mm and 12volt). The Noctua package comes with wire connectors to cut and splice to the original NVR fan connector. I also have the fan blowing in, instead of as exhaust, and appears to run slightly cooler when touching the heatsink on the CPU. New Noctua fan is very quiet.

[10 TB (Total)] I've accumulated different cameras from different manufacturers for years assuming they would be easy to install on IP NVRs and for the most part, they were until I got some newer 4K cameras and then it became a chore. Three different NVR's later I find one that works with all my cameras. The only real hassle, if I can call it that, was to have to go to the router as I hooked up each camera to see what address it was set to. Once I got it to recognize the cameras, the included software made it easy to get them all working. I have a simple 5 camera, 24hr recorded, home setup without all the motion detection or other options set, so it was pretty easy to get up and running. It works.

[1x Internal] I bought this to replace my NAS so I could record 24/7 on a of my cameras with out purchasing additional licenses and taxing my NAS hardware to the point of not functioning. So far it has performed wonderfully. The first 24 hrs was a little underwhelming and I was worried I would regret the purchase, but once I got everything operating how I wanted it and got used to the interface and remote interface it had lived up to my expectations. Highly recommend this unit for hikvision cameras AND 3rd party cameras. Works great with wifi connected cams as well.
