The silver HD Pentax DA 20-40mm f/2.8-4 ED Limited DC WR Lens from Pentax is a high performance standard length zoom lens for K-mount APS-C cameras. Its 35mm focal length equivalency is 30.5-61.5mm providing a versatile and practical range for wide-angle to standard length shooting. It is the first zoom lens in the Pentax Limited Series line and brings with it a durable, weather-sealed body, HD lens coating and an optical design consisting of one ED element and one super-low dispersion element.

The f/2.8-4 maximum aperture enables effective low light shooting and, at the wide-angle end, control over its shallow depth of field for images that place sharp focus on the subject with a pleasing out of focus background. An in-lens direct current (DC) focus motor provides smooth and quiet autofocus action and its Quick-Shift Focus System enables rapid shift from autofocus to manual focus mode.

The lens barrel and the included hood are made from high-grade aluminum alloy, distance and depth of field scales are clearly marked on the barrel and a smooth rotating, knurled ring provides manual focus control. SP (Super Protect) coating on the front and rear lens elements repels dust, water and grease to help maintain peak performance.

[Pentax K] Researched all manufactured DSLR for several months before making my decision. The K3 mark iii is remarkable. Its capabilities, technology, design, the way it feels, the fit the finished. This PENTAX K3 mark iii competes and surpasses other name brand DSLR for half the money. The K3 mark iii monochrome is next. $$$$ best deal out there. 5

[f/2.8 to 4] I spent a fair amount of time trying to decide whether it was worth it to replace my 10-year-old K5-iis and screw-drive 55-300. I shouldn’t have waited so long. The camera has more than lived up to the positive reviews so far, and I’m still working through the extensive customization options. The lens, while losing a stop of aperture, is quicker to focus and sharper than its predecessor. No regrets! 5

[55 mm (Front)] I received an amazing camera with fast focus and superb image quality. Learning how to properly operate the camera was, for me, time consuming, considering the extensive setup menu and the array of customizable function buttons installed all over the camera. This comment from someone who has been using Pentax film and digital cameras since 1968. The camera has many capabilities that I suspect I may never use. That said, I really like the K3 Mark 3. Now that I have an understanding of how it works, its use seems intuitive, with ISO, focus, and exposure settings that can be changed directly with a push of a button. No purchase regrets at all. 5

[APS-C] Amazing camera! Same classic Mark III feel, and just heavy enough to make you imagine you're a pro when you hold it, point and shoot. Yet, the image contrast, sharpness, and shades make this camera irreplaceable when compared to similar B&W shots taken by a color camera. Definitely recommend to a friend. [1.105 lb] I upgraded from the K-3 to the K-3 Mrk iii and totally glad I did! My K-3 is now my back up camera while on location. One of my favorite new features is the toggle switch on the back to toggle through and move the focus points. This has been very welcoming while shooting landscapes and also portraiture and can be used which wearing thick gloves. Pentax's weather resistant body and lenses are top notch and allow me to be out there doing what I love no matter what mother nature dishes out. I have tested out the ISO range only up to 51200 and it did well. Expected grain which is easily reduced in post processing. Iso range is from 100 to 1600000. Great camera and Great Quality. Well worth the investment! 5

[9] The K3-III was a fantastic upgrade from my trusty K20D. Type 3 Astrotracer works really well. I do find that I bump the camera mode lock loose from its unlocked position frequently, and I miss the K20D's physical 3-way continuous/single/manual focus control (the K3-III's is just auto/manual) a little, but it's a really great piece of gear. 5

[APS-C] I posted the most-recent review of this camera, where I tried it and loved it, but fretted over its autofocus performance--so returned it. That was a mistake. The black-and-white quality from this camera brought it back to me. There's just simply no way to easily replicate the results by editing color. I've spent lots of time trying to do this. In some scenarios, I get close, but at the expense of much effort. If you shoot lots of black and white, you will not be disappointed with this camera. And since I've had more time with the camera--and have used a wider variety of lenses with it--I've learned that the autofocus is better than my initial impression, snappy-fast on some lenses, in fact. If mirrorless AF is considered a 10, I'd give this an 8. 5
