[3 lb] I bought it mainly to get white background which I am very happy with. In one of the customer questions on B&H, it was stated that that it is collapsible for easy setup, I disagree with that statement. It is hard to setup, one has to apply lots of force to setup. I had to use large pliers to collapse it. Expect a good 15-30 minutes to put it together and the same amount of time to dismantle it.
I am very happy with getting easy setup for white backgrounds.

[3 lb] For my purposes I actually prefer these least expensive Chimera softboxes because the front diffusion panel is flush to the edges.  The black rim created by the recessed panels of the Super Pros just make things more difficult for me shooting products and food.  They also transmit almost two stops more light from the same head without the baffle installed and a stop more with the baffle installed, even though they are all white inside.  Theyre simpler to assemble also, with the front diffuser permanently attached.

[3 lb] This Octabox is great for lighting a small group in the studio. The included 'free' grid is great for keeping light where I want it. I find this 84 Softbox reasonable to assemble and disassemble and it is made of sturdy materials. Please notice that you must purchase a speed ring for this item separately.


Also, if you are planning on using this outdoors, make sure to have a sturdy light stand with a lot of extra weights... It loves to twist and fly in the wind without it. Seriously, this softbox will make you pay if you forget to tighten one of the stands extension clamps.


One thing I have found is that when using this as an outdoor key light for overcast days or shade pictures, I can actually get away with my 580 ex speedlight as the strobe for this when I am shooting small groups at around f3.5... I had wondered about this before I bought it, so I thought I would share my findings!


Finally, please remember the most challenging part of using this softbox is the mounting and dismounting to from the strobe head. Having a second person to assist you, greatly reduces the chances of breaking a bulb.

[3 lb] Very even lighting from top to bottom. Best of all the light is super soft and the box doesn't eat up a lot of room in your shooting area. Very light weight as well. I had no problem using the box on a boom. Very pleased with the quality of the materials and the design. The aluminum rods are a plus.

[3 lb] Great light modifier as expected from Chimera Lighting. Make sure you have a speedring that fits. The ends of the rods are bigger than any other modifier I have (including Chimera) and wouldn't fit my Interfit, Impact, or Hensel rings. I had to order a Chimera speedring.

[3 lb] Chimera makes a great product! They also have great service and repairs! This is my fourth Medium Quartz soft box! Perhaps my twelfth chimera box. Be careful when you order, defiantly get the Plus series because you can change the front material from the full Muslin to 1/2 grid to 1/4 grid. My normal combo is the 1/2 and 1/4 grid together! This combo give me a large soft source but it still has some spark! Additionally, I reccomend the 40degre or the 30 degree egg crates! Get one and enjoy!

[3 lb] This softbox is enormous. I love it for portraits and interviews; make sure you have the room. I also have the 60 version, which in most cases is big enough and easier to move around.
