This model is NDI (Network Device Interface) enabled. NDI is a leading technology that allows hardware- and software-based video devices to communicate and collaborate over any standard Ethernet-based network. It also allows for multiple video sources to be managed in real time with the easy-to-use NDI Discovery function of the network.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Does the video or audio cut out between clips on longer recordings? (legal work)

A: No, camcorders do not automatically stop recording, unless the memory card is filled or the battery dies. Therefore, it would be recommended to power your camera through the included AC adapter and record on a big enough card to record all the footage you need.

Q: 2. What are main differences between this and the HC500? I want to know if it's worth the extra $1.3k

A: The HC550 offers built-in wireless LAN (2.4GHz/5GHz) MIMO with external antenna. It also has the ability to add a broadcast overlay on video and streaming.

Q: 3. does this camera record pal 1080i ?

A: No. It will do it in 1080p, but no 1080i specs that suggest this have been found here.

Q: 4. Whats the size of the DC In connector? Im trying to find a replacement ac adapter and there is no specs for it.

A: JVC does not list the size of the connection. They do not supply to us the correct adapter. Therefore this is a factory replacement part. Please contact JVC for the replacement part.

Q: 5. Does it records in variable frame rates???

A: Yes, the JVC GY-HC500U records in variable frame rates.

Q: 6. Can these cameras stream SRT over the Internet?

A: Yes, this supports Secure Reliable Transport (SRT) QoS.

Q: 7. Does this camera outputs in 4K? SDI or HDMI or both?

A: the camera has a 3G-SDI out which is only 1080p out, the HDMI out is capable of 3840x2160 UHD output

Q: 8. Does this camera have time lapse and slow motion capabilities?

A: Not that we are aware of. This camcorder does not list frame rates above 60fps as available. It does not list time lapse either.

Q: 9. Is it PAL or NTSC version or both?

A: This camcorder will shoot in both PAL and NTSC.

Q: 10. can the Streaming function be used to monitor the camera from another room on a laptop for example? (assuming of course they are on the same network)

A: Yes it can.

[20x] When it comes to prosumer camcorders, I have been a loyal Panasonic customer for years. The HMC40 and AG-AC90 are great, but I decided to give this JVC a shot, as the features and ability to shoot in 4K at this price point are crazy. I've used it at basketball games with poor lighting, and the results are amazing. I would highly recommend the camera if you are on the fence.

[1"-Type CMOS] So, I was hesitant to purchase this 6 months ago at the beginning of the pandemic... and then it was on backorder. We shoot multicamera webcasts on a budget and this camera works great. My only issue with it would be that it's too light. Almost feels thinly constructed. Of course the last camcorder that i purchased was an HVX-200... That was a completely different build and for a camera that was 3 times the JVC's price. Then I compared the feel to a Blackmagic pocket 4k... and it feels like the same build. The $80. zoom controller that i purchased (here) ... worked great. sony protocol. The image quality looked great... maybe not the best low light camera out there... So bring lights... Love the SDI connector. Love the pro physical controls all around. For $1500., best bang for the buck. I shouldn't of waited.

[82 mm] Having shot successfully with a DVX100a and a JVC150u which I bought as a stop gap measure, until I found the right camera for me. The JVC150u did manage to pay for itself, but it lacked the configuration ability of the DVX and it's excellent glass.I have finally found the true successor to my DVX100a. This is the HD camera I have been waiting for. First off, let me point out this camera is not as dinky as some of the You Tube reviewers make it out to be. It definitely looks as professional as it's images. Regarding the images, they are stunning, even in HD. This camera offers plenty of pro features, allowing you complete control over the image, instead having to meet the camera halfway. It's has excellent glass at a very wide 56mm. I seriously doubt anyone will need a wide angle adapter for this camera. Regarding low light, in capable hands it can hold it's own.Bottom line, I can't believe the amount of camera with it's capabilities I am holding in my hand for $$. For the serious shooter who needs a true production tool that can hold it's own with anything out there, I strongly suggest you buy this camera before the sale ends.

[82 mm] I'm very happy with my new JVC GY-HM170. It's compact and lightweight, and loaded with features. And you certainly cannot beat the price for a camera like this ($1,195 on sale). I'll be using this camera to make documentary shorts and it's easy to travel with too.

[1"-Type CMOS] I love this little camcorder. I wish I had it on the last two weddings I just finished. And, for the set of interviews I did for my documentary class.Drop the handle, and they'll let you in anywhere. Put it back on, plug in a wireless receiver, and use it in the studio.People say its plastic. I say its small and lightweight, and I love that. People say its marginal in low light. I say give it a little light, and it will produce jaw dropping 4K images.People say its cheap and won't last for years. I say its inexpensive enough I can buy a new one every time they upgrade the line. Besides, I wouldn't drop my Canons or Sonys on the floor either!People say the LCD and viewfinder are marginal. I say no camera LCD is big enough to focus a 4K image properly (thats why I go external or auto mode). How many cameras will do 120 fps in this price range? Allow you to select between 75 and 150 Mbps 4K? Give you 422 Quick Time files? Many reviewers compare this camera to $ and $ competitors. I am giving up my $ cameras, for this one.

[0.4"] I've had this camera a few weeks and it is growing on me - after you get used to the menus and functions you will find it's more capable than you initally thought so give it time - I discovered a solution to the Windows NLE issue with the 4.2.2. Full HD .mov format compatability problem and it's Magix Movie Edit Pro the 2016 version - see the Q&A section for more information. One thing I forgot to mention is you will appreciate the B&H supplied XLR Mic for this camera as the OIS can be heard very slightly in the audio track with the internal mic so you need the external mic for clean audio with the OIS engaged. Given the performance and pricing this is a very good 4K Professional Entry camcorder option.
