The MA-37 Multi-Pattern Large-Diaphragm Tube Condenser Microphone from Mojave is a modern recreation of the venerable Sony C-37a, a studio workhorse mic popular in Hollywood studios from the 1960's, including Capital Records and Sunset Sound. Designed by David Royer, the MA-37 keeps the same single-diaphragm design from the original and employs an EF86 tube and Lundahl transformer to give the mic it's characteristically warm, natural sound. A mechanical switch on the mic allows you to toggle between cardioid and omnidirectional pickup patterns, giving the mic added versatility in the studio.

Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. We bought this Mic and expected an xlr cable which was not included. Was a cable supposed to be included?

A: No, an XLR cable is not included with the AT2035 microphone. The mic comes with a shockmount and protective pouch for storage.

Q: 2. I need to replace the Mic. to use with my Audio-Technica ATW-R14 wireless system, Want to know if these is the one I should by ?

A: The Pro-35cW microphone will feature the locking 4 pin connector compatible with the transmitters available in the ATW-1400 system. The ATW R14 is actually the model of the receiver unit only.

Q: 3. does this mic operate wirelessly?

A: No. This is a an XLR Wired dynamic mic.

Q: 4. I noted that this microphone has 5 pins but my audio recorders are both 3-pin (Marantz PMD661 and Zoom H6). Can I purchase an adapter cable? This may be dumb question. I'm new to this aspect of recording, and I can't seem to find a definitive answer on any website.

A: Three reasons I bought the NT4 is that it comes with a five pin adapter to two three pin plugs, also a five pin adapter to 3.5mm audio adapter and it can be run off an internal 9 volt battery. None of my digital recorders supply Phantom Power . The audio level at analog output is more than sufficient to connect to my Sony PCM-D50.

Q: 5. Will this mic work “out-of-the-box” with Windows 7?

A: Yes. the Samson Meteorite works out of the box and only requires minimal setup to select the mic as your input device. Here is a link to the user manual with all of the details for setup and operation: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/lit_files/118611.pdf

Q: 6. What is the weight of this mic with the appropriate suspension mount?

A: The weight of the Audio-Technica AT4047/SV is about 1 pound.

Q: 7. What's the best blimp/dead for this microphone?

A: The Rycote Mini Windjammer provides optimum wind diffusion for smaller microphones. Like the standard Windjammer, the Mini Windjammer provides 10 - 12dB extra protection over standard windscreens. This Windjammer accommodates the Rode NT4.

Q: 8. I read in the Product highlights that the NTK comes with a dual diaphragm capsule, and 9 polar patterns? Is this correct? ( I believe that describes is the Rode K2, and not the NTK.) Nor does it use phantom power.

A: I apologize for the confusion, the NTK is a cardioid patterned mic, not variable, and utilizes its own included power supply.

Q: 9. Your website says that the NTK comes with a 6072 tube. I thought it came with a 6922 tube?

A: We stand corrected. According to RODE: Hand selected and graded 6922 twin-triode valve . Thanks for pointing this out.

Q: 10. Hi , can use and record for instruments too?

A: Yes you can. It functions as a mic pre and a direct box. So you can use it on a mic or an instrument.

[Mono] This is a fabulous microphone. I've used it on nylon string and vocals. Very nice! Records exactly what you hear. Warm and sweet. The threads on the shockmount where it screws onto a mic stand, however, are very sloppy . Feels like low quality production.

[External PSU] I've used these to record a university orchestra from the first balcony--about 100' from center stage. Did an excellent job with a crisp and well defined sound. Also have used these to record solo violin with good results. I'm not a pro--I recorded either to a Panasonic HVX-200a camcorder or Tascam digital recorder. So I don't know how these compare with the expensive small-diaphragm mics made for acoustic instruments. But I can't complain about my results.

[External PSU] Price is outrageous for the 16 and 20 foot versions but is the only option available right now for these Mojave mics. 5 pin DMX cables do not work well with these mics.

[Side Address] We are using these to mic marimba and vibes for marching band. They work great and produce great sound.

[Tube (EF86)] I use pro37 for the situations such as recording a big jazz band where each player needs a microphone. I also use this microphone for recording strings and vocals in addition to for horns and drums. In another words, this is an all round microphone. I currently have 7 of this microphone. I will buy more of pro37 as the number of channels of my recorder increases. Goods: 1; Not much colored frequency response. I mix with Earthworks SR20s when I need a larger number of microphones. Sounds from both microphones are nearly undistinguishable in many cases. 2. Good off axis frequency response. 3. Not conspicuous at live recordings. 4. Low cost Negatives: 1. Higher noise floor. This microphone is not usable at distant positions like tens of feet away. But, at proximity positions like within a few feet from the sound source, the microphone noises are not audible in most cases. 2. No brand name value - not usable for people who love Neumann.

[140 V] We are using them in our church for miking a piano, podium and using them for our bass singer. Have used them for years and have never had a problem with any of them.
