    Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Can this be used with a Wimberly Gimbal head?

A: This lens support is for a lens that lacks a tripod collar, so it would be a support system on its own.

    Q: 2. Will this fit a Sony A300 DSLR?

A: Yes, the Manfrotto 293 will fit the Sony A300.

Q: 3. wull it be suitable for a sigma 100-400 lens?

A: While we have not tested this unknown combination, we feel that it should work just fine.

Q: 4. does this work a Manfrotto Q5 Quick Release Plate which I have on my camera and tripod? Will I need a manfrotto 200PL Quick release plate, and switch the plates on the camera and tripod to use this? Thanks, Tom

A: You will need the Manfrotto 200PL Quick Release Plate for the Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support, which comes with one of these plates included: http://bhpho.to/1AaV7TS

Q: 5. Will this fit the old Nikon 180mm ED, AI lens (non autofocus)?

A: No issue with the Nikon 180mm ED, it will fit well similarly with the 70 200mm f2.8

Q: 6. Will this work with the Nikon AF-S 300mm, f/4D (ie, the older non VR version)?

A: Yes, this is compatible with the Nikon Nikon AF-S 300mm, f/4D lens.

Q: 7. Is it compatible with camcorders as well as SLR's?

A: Well, I didn't use it with camcorders. However, the general idea is to support the body and the lens in a manner not to cause much pressure on the mount. If that would help in recording then let it be! But I doubt controlling it would be much of an easy task. I don't know the size of camcorders, but the total expansion of this arm is somewhere around 40cm; would that be good for camcorders?

    Q: 8. Will this be compatible with a Canon 70-200 f/2.8?

A: For this specific combo, I do not have an answer. However, I have a collection of a number of classic SLR's and lenses and have this attachment. While a little cumbersome, have found it very useful for a number of systems and prime and zoom lenses, including Olympus, Canon FD, Minolta MD, and several Nikons. I would purchase it again and believe it will probably work for the 2.8 Canon. Primes work better than zooms I have tried. All my equipment is manual focus so have no comment for AF. It's a jury-rig, but I find it helpful to wrap a thick rubber band around the zoom barrel to help keep the same zoom settings in place.

Q: 9. Would this work for the Tamron 18-400 telephoto attached to a Nikon D3200 or Z6 II?

A: The Manfrotto 293 Telephoto Lens Support with Quick Release is only compatible with lenses 7.9" to 11.6" in length; the Tamron 18-400mm lens is only 4.88" long, so it is not compatible with this device.

Q: 10. Is there a sku with just the lens support arca piece?

A: Unfortunately, LeoFoto does not sell just the lens support of the Leofoto Dual Pivot Long Lens Support with Arca-Type QR (7.7") separately.

[Aluminum] This is a great item, I don't have a built in lens tripod mount, works for the Lumix tele lens 1.7 on the FZ 300

[Aluminum] Sought to buy the missing unit for a recently acquired Nikon ED 300mm f/4.5 and encountered prices the likes of which i'd only seen in the vintage audio market. A previous purchase (China cheap) did not fit this lens but keeping it for an eventual other purchase.
Was looking at a unit I thought would fit and decided to engage a BH sales person who quickly found out it was not, and provided me a link to this unit.
Manfrotto, which I previously thought of as a maker of expensive gear corrected that perception. This is a really, really fit for this lens that is built like a Sherman tank. It's easily fitted and solid as a rock. For my uses at least, this is a well-built and very adjustable support. I am sure I will find something I don't particular care for but, at this price, I'm more likely to remember it's not that bad :-)

[1.55 lb] This little gadget works wonders. I have a Nikon Coolpix P900 and Coolpix P1000 super zoom bridge cameras. This Manfrotto Lens Support does the job of steadying the lens to reduce and prevent camera shake at extreme focal length (zoom). Coupled with a very sturdy tripod and wireless remote control, this Lens Support will greatly enhance the sharpness of your photos. Another advantage is it reduces the strain on the 1/4 inch quick release screw where it attaches to your camera. As well, you can attach your tripod head onto the Lens Support rail in the middle. This helps balance the camera on the tripod when the lens is zoomed all the way out. This will also work great for DSLR's. I really like this Lens Support, works very well.

[Aluminum] This thing is great. I mount it to my Sachtler 18 to protect the camera from rain, sun, and dust. At first I was using it only when needed, then removing it (it takes a couple of minutes to put on and off), but recently I realized that I can leave it on throughout the day. If I’m on a multiday shoot and I know I’m going to be out in the elements the whole time, I leave it on the tripod the entire trip. It sticks out, so I make sure to take care when it’s mounted, but it’s amazing how much easier it is to protect my camera from rain.

[1.55 lb] Very sturdy and well built. It works on most tripods and especially great for the Nikon P1000.
It lacks instructions. You have to figure it out on your own but it is not hard to do.
