Sennheiser Mkh 30-p48 Bidirectional Microphone

Sennheiser Mkh 30-p48 Bidirectional Microphone
  • Product Code: eq1249
  • Availability: In Stock

$4,497.00 $6,925.38

The symmetrical transducer design of the Sennheiser MKH 30-P48 Bidirectional Microphoneproduces an unusually wide and smooth frequency response.

Particularly suited to soloists and small instrumental groups, the MKH-30-P48 can also serve as an "S" or side microphone in MS stereo applications. As a general support microphone, it is particularly useful in the effective suppression of sounds from adjacent sound sources. Its transformerless output has inherently low noise and distortion, and it also features switchable roll-off filtering and pre-attenuation. The MKH-30 uses 48V phantom power and is finished in a black anodized metal casing.  A MZS 80 shockmount and a MZW 41 windscreen are included.

Q: 1. Looking to store an mkh8050 and 2x mkh50s in a run bag (using this one: BH #POCSDV4U ). I leave the Rycote INV mk3 shockmounts on the mics for convenience, as well as the foam windscreens (bubblebee spacer BH #BUBBISBXS & rycote super softie BH #RYWSQAT) for additional protection. am currently putting the mics in these porta brace zipper bags (BH #POCSB93 ) to separate them within the run bag, but wanted to see if there's anything slightly larger (to fit w/ the foam windscreens, not just the rycote shockmounts) & slightly more robust in terms of protection?

A: Perhaps you can use something like the OP/TECH USA Lens/Filter Pouch, Large (B&H # OPPLFL) which is 9" high and has a 4.5" diameter, or the Ruggard Fold-Over Neoprene Lens Pouch - 3.5 x 6", Black (B&H # RULPNF35X60) or the Tenba Soft Neoprene Lens Pouch - Black, 9 x 4.8" (B&H # TETSLP948B). The Tenba Soft Molded EVA Lens Capsule with Extra Padding - Black, 9 x 4.8" (B&H # TE636359) has a more structured design for added protection. Even though these items are intended for use with camera lenses, they certainly can be used to protect the Sennheiser MKH 8050 Compact Supercardioid Condenser Microphone together with the windscreens and perhaps with the shockmount too.

Q: 2. What will provide some protection for the mic from damage (only need for use indoors) better than the foam windscreen?

A: The only accessories made to actually mitigate damage to the MKH 50 P48 Microphone would be a case for safe storage and transport. In general, wind protection such as foam is not meant to protect against damage, only excessive wind noise and should not be misconstrued for physical protection. While it's true the foam can provide some slight protection against shock, you should still treat the microphone with the same level of care as you would with out any wind protection.

Q: 3. What is needed for this to work with a Tascam DR-100mkIII, just an XLR cord?

A: Yes. All you would need is an XLR cable,

Q: 4. How does this mike in comparison for MKH50 for voice over or dialog? Any audio samples would be great

A: Yes the Sennheiser MKH 8050 is very ideal for voice and dialog recording.

Q: 5. is there a recommended pistol grip for shooting situations where a boompole is not feasible? for the mkh50

A: The Auray Universal Microphone Pistol Grip (BH #AUGRIP) is a recommended handheld pistol grip for adapting to the shock mount and microphone in the Sennheiser MKH 50 Supercardioid Microphone Kit.

Q: 6. Is it good for ME67 with K6?

A: The Sennheiser CASELONGMKH is designed for the Sennheiser MKH-416/MKH-60 and will not work with the ME67/K6. As an alternative, you may consider the Alfa Case MFR# 20018MTLB.

Q: 7. What is the best windshield (dead cat) that will fit?

A: Since the Sennheiser MKH 8050 Microphone is only 2.9" long with a 19mm diameter, you can use the Bubblebee Industries "The Spacer" Bubble Windshield & Fur Cover System for Small-Diaphragm Mics - Black, Extra-Small (B&H # BUBBISBXS) or the Rycote Baseball Felt-Covered Windscreen - Black, 19/20mm, Single (B&H # RY039701). Both items will fit properly and will provide sufficient protection from wind noise. If you need a replacement for the foam windscreen that comes included with the mic, you can order the Sennheiser MZW-8000 Windscreen for MKH8000 Series Microphones (B&H # SEMZW8000).

Q: 8. Would the pattern on this mic work for 2-3 person interviews? mic on a boom overhead.

A: If the 2-3 persons are sitting close to each other, then yes you can use the Sennheiser MKH50 for capturing up to 3 people talking.u

Q: 9. Does this kit also include the sennheiser native shockmount, and foam windscreen that usually comes in the case with the mkh50?

A: Yes, it has the boxed Sennheiser kit with the screen and a mic clip. The latter is the close-fitting clip with the standard 5/8 thread.

Q: 10. Which shockmount would be perfect for It?

A: Here's a quality Rycote shock mount suggestion for the MKH8050 BH #RYINVHGMKIII.

[Phantom Power] Captures voices beautifully and really does an incredible job of isolating other sounds. This is our go to mic for boom work and even voice overs.

[Mono] I had been using good quality, entry level mic's for some time and decided it was time to step up and try the next level. I would say that the MKH 50 is like tasting your first glass of REALLY good wine. It's not twice as good as what you had before, and you pay proportionally more for each smaller increase in quality, but once you've had it, you really don't want to go back. This mic sounds great, nuanced, clean, and very responsive over a wide range of input sound volumes. A great addition to my kit.

[Figure-8] Offers a true to life sound and is extremely rugged. This mic is a work horse and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to get pristine audio capture anytime you're indoors.

[Phantom Power] Finally, Sennheiser has come out with an 8000 series figure-8 microphone. They should have released this mic 10 years ago. The figure-8 pattern is fundamental to MS and Blumlein stereo techniques. It’s an extremely useful pattern in general, even though most audio engineers don’t use the pattern often enough.
As for this particular microphone, it’s fantastic. Sounds great (just like the other MKH 8000 series mics) with a low end much better than most figure-8 mics. Low noise. Small, light, lots of output. Nice non-reflective finish. This RF mic is not affected by high humidity.
I use it in a DMS configuration with a Sennheiser MKH 800 Twin. The 8030 replaces a MKH 800 P48 set to the figure-8 pattern which was previously used in that rig. The 8030 works fine in that application, sounding just as good as the 800 P48. Compared to the 800 P48, the 8030 is slightly noisier and has about 3 dB less output; neither difference is a problem.
I own a Neumann KM 120; the MKH 8030 is better.
I don’t know how Sennheiser could improve this microphone. It’s an expensive microphone, so I guess they could make it less expensive, right?

[1.8 lb] I bought this mic for a Mid/Side recording rig, and it has worked out excellently. It has a very low noise floor, it's very
transparent, and it's a pleasure listening to the results every single
time.

[Side Address] I am very impressed with the indoor vocals captured with this mic. The vocals are very rich and full-body. And with no harsh top end.

[Figure-8] I watched a lot of online reviews of The 50 before making my purchase. I wondered if this mic could really sound as great as they say. So I took the chance and bought it from my most trusted source, B&H! No regrets! This mic sounds fantastic and is easy to position with its polar pattern and sensitivity.

[Figure-8] I absolutely love this microphone. It's perfect for out of frame placement while still being crystal clear. As with any Sennheiser product it's built really solid and the sound is crystal clear. 5/5
