A: Yes, I believe it is the distance from the table to the camera mounting screw. I checked mine - it's closer to 8.75 table to screw (mine was purchased June-2014).

A: Hi there! The Manfrotto 492 ballhead and tripod supports a total of 4.4lbs, so as long as your D850 and lens combination does not exceed that amount, it should work beautifully. However, when in use with the 259B extension column, it will reduce the overall stability slightly with such a large camera, so exercise a bit of caution.

It appears the round piece should slide all the way into the round section on the edge of the copylight and then the knob secures it, but I can't get it to go past the edge of the inside hole (if that makes any sense).
