[3 mA (Maximum)] Schoeps says that there's no discernible difference in sound quality, but when I heard this one, I put my CMC6 up for sale immediately.

The higher SPLs do make a difference; and to my ear the CMC1 has a more clean and transparent sound to it. I know that sounds lame, but it's hard to describe. This CMC1 is amazing.

HIGHLY recommended.

[Matte Gray] Bought this mic a year ago primarily for broadcast EFP high def video work with Rycote's WindJammer. Looked at Sennheiser but I feel that this is a newer design and want a unique sounding mic vs. the typical Senn. 416. The shotgun performed very well in virtually all scenarios. It sounds like I put a high quality lav right at the bottom of the shirt but it doesn't have that lav characteristic. There are times where it's very annoying to see a lav being mic'd up on the talent's body OR high wind condition. This lightweight blue beauty fits the bill virtually all the times. High tolerance to off axis positioning. Forgiving at times for novice boom op. It sounds very crisp, accurate and has that condenser quality to dialogue field recording. Incredible clarity on male dialogue recording. Only small complaint is that it will not reject high ambient noise situation. I'd have to have a 2nd mic just for that situation. Also, very good reach. Most of the shoot the mic had to be placed about 4-5 feet on top of talent's head and it performed like it was within 1 foot. Expensive but it's a shot gun mic that you don't have to upgrade much or ever have the need to worry about depreciating. It actually costs about $150 more this year due to unsteady dollar. Get it fast before another price hike.

[Matte Gray] The new CMC1 is great, super small, awesome for gigs. I have it for only 2 weeks, but the few times I used I was very happy!

[12 / 48 VDC] I am a documentary filmmaker, and was looking for the best quality sound for mounting a shotgun microphone directly to my camera. Booming is not always an option for me, nor is it the way I mainly work. Yes it is expensive, and may seem strange to just be strapping this puppy to a camera, but worth it's weight in diamonds. And I 100% would make the purchase again now that I've had an opportunity to work with it. The sound that you get from this shotgun is top of the line - and as a filmmaker who appreciates good sound - if you do - look no further.

[12 / 48 VDC] MK22 cartridges are halfway between the MK21 Wide Cardioid and the MK4 Cardioid - fairly directional but with extended base response. I frequently record in highly reverberant venues, such as cathedrals. Used as space microphones, the MK22 gives a clear sound with good stereo image, and a good balance with ambience. I plan to use them on a 1 meter stereo in ORTF configuration, with a pair of spaced MK22 microphones. Omnis tend to be muddy in this application and cards lose the warmth I seek. The MK22s will form the core sound - everything else is just for emphasis. MK22s are also effective for chamber music, often in conjunction with a pair of MK2H (far field) Omnis.

[Matte Gray] Our projects cover just about any subject, in almost any context. Currently, we're working in the wild recording natural sounds and conducting interviews surrounded by interested birds, bugs and lovely bucoli airiness. This appropriately blue microphone, combined with our Sound Devices mixer (also purchased at B&H), has made a gentle heaven of these earthly sounds and made our interviews sharp, clean and absolutely authentic. It's remarkable weight (almost nothing) and built-in low cut, gradual low cut and presence settings make it more flexible... suitable for interior voice recording. I've tried and tried to think of what might be a drawback about this amazing bit of technology, but I can't think of a thing. Using it is simply a humbling experience. Thank you Scheops!

[Matte Gray] I have been using this mic for over 7 years now, and I can say without a shadow of a doubt, this is the best investment I have ever made. The only issue I can see is: If your pre is having issues, if your pre is low quality or if your pre is perfect, you WILL hear it. This mic is unbelievably clear for a shotgun. I would recommend a Sound Devices pre-amp equipped recorder (like the 722 or 744) just because of this. The new Zoom H6 is what I'm beginning to use for misc foley or field recording, and it works very well, but, if recording anything that won't be buried, this mic warrants a strong, clear pre-amp like from the Sound Devices. I highly recommend this mic.
