Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. Do the Esata ports support port multiplier? if so, how many drives (eg, can you attach an 8-drive esata encolosure to it)

A: That information is not provided/published by the manufacturer.

Q: 2. Does this card provide ample power, not having a seperate power connection?

A: The RocketU provides the rated amount of power for any standard USB 3.1 Gen2 ports and devices. .

Q: 3. Is this device compatible with PCIE 2.0 slots?

A: The performance should be the same if you are not sending data to all four ports simultaneously. PCIe 2.0x4 = 2000 MB/s should allow near full performance from two ports simultaneously. If the card uses the ASM2142 (PCIe 3.0x2), then a single USB port can be 20% faster than a card that uses the ASM1142 (PCIe 2.0x2). The PCIe switch can convert the two PCIe 3.0x2 USB controllers to PCIe 2.0x4.

Q: 4. Can you Raid with this card?

A: The StarTech 4-Port (2 Internal/2 External) PCIe SATA 6 Gb/s Controller Card B&H # STPEXEST322I does not have a built in RAID controller.

Q: 5. Is this capable of RAID?

A: This PCIe SATA 6 Gb/s controller card does not support RAID.

Q: 6. Does this card work inside Dell 7875 precision workstation? It does have one Gen 5 x16 PCIe lane.

Q: 7. Which ASMedia chip does this card use?

A: The manufacturer has not specified in the documentation, however the chip is similar, if not newer than the ASMedia ASM2142.

[Low Profile] I was very impressed. Hooked it up and my G-tech raid drives (from an earlier MacPro system) show up immediately. No reformatting, or trouble shooting.
I had bought a different brand’s PCI housing hoping it would work and Rocketstor even assisted me to trouble shoot since it was their PCI card. My last resort before dumping 20 terabytes in the trash was this unit. I now have those drives thunderbolt daisy chained to new drives that I was forced to buy when my “cheesgrader” macpro blew a mother board. All working fast and great. Avid Editor since ‘94. Very happy with this device.

[0.66 lb] I use it in my 2019 Mac Pro with 4x2TB m.2 SSDs from Samsung. The passive cooling works great, I see consistent write/read speed rates in continuous heavy use and the drive is silent.

[0.66 lb] I had an older LSI 9271-8i used for a 21TB RAID6 but only see between 20-40Mbps transfer rates. With this HighPoint RocketRAID I am now maxing out my 2Gbps network.

[0.66 lb] Bought this card to replace the other USB card which went bad. So far so good! Plug & play, speed of transfer is good specially with faster cards. Bluetooth interference in my is not an issue since I have extended the Bluetooth antenna on my Mac Pro 2012. You still need to eject the card before Mac goes to sleep otherwise you get the error massage. No other issues I have encountered so far.

[0.66 lb] Easy installation, no problems plug and play. Each port is self powered so you can use devices that require more power. I used it to upgrade a older computer, NEF files are not getting any smaller.

[0.66 lb] It arrived a lot faster, initially it was going to take 4-6 weeks. The product is very well built, materials are very good quality. Adding drives was extremely easy. Connection to Mac Pro tower through SAS controller was easy. Everything about the product was absolutely fantastic. I will be filling it with 12tb drives, should make for a very nice storage array. Speeds are very nice as well.

[Low Profile] This card has it's own bios that boots when you boot the computer. I have 2 sets of HDD's configured as RAID 1 (mirrored). Great for secure storage. If the computer fails, it should not affect the data. If you blow a HDD, you can replace it and the array will rebuild itself. You can take the entire assembly and move it to another computer without data loss. It integrates itself for drive configuration as if it were plugged into the SATA bus. One caution....Make sure you purchase RocketRAID and not just a RAID card. The RAID card doesn't have the spin down function.
