Related Questions and Answers

Q: 1. What's the difference to HighPoint SSD7540?

A: In addition to RAID 0, the HighPoint SSD7540 can support RAID 1 and RAID 10.

Q: 2. What is the difference between this NVME card and the HighPoint PCIe Gen5 x16 to 8-M.2x4 NVMe RAID AIC? Pros and cons?

A: The main difference between the HighPoint PCIe Gen5 x16 to 8-M.2x4 NVMe Switch AIC and the HighPoint PCIe Gen5 x16 to 8-M.2x4 NVMe RAID AIC is that the Switch model does not support RAID configurations. If you want to combine the M.2 SSDs into a RAID volume, then you would need the RAID model; the Switch model will have all drives as separate independent drives.

Q: 3. Does this card provide ample power, not having a seperate power connection?

A: The RocketU provides the rated amount of power for any standard USB 3.1 Gen2 ports and devices. .

Q: 4. What size HDD does this card support for RAID 1? I'm looking at using the IronWolf 10TB 7200 RPM NAS HDD.

A: On the datasheet for this product, the manufacture only states it supports larger HDD's than 2TB. It doesn't specify the maximum size. Sorry for any inconvenience. https://bit.ly/2yYp2rn As far as compatible HDD's, the manufacture doesn't list Seagate IronWork HDD as a compatible option. The compatible HDD's are shown below: https://bit.ly/2NblCKd

Q: 5. what is the maximum of HDD size i can connect to this card? 2Tb, 4Tb, 6Tb etc?

A: The StarTech 4-Port (2 Internal/2 External) PCIe SATA 6 Gb/s Controller Card BH #STPEXEST322I does not have a drive size limitation.

Q: 6. What's the maximum throughput?

A: Rocket series NVMe HBAs such as this 1508 8-Bay M.2 NVMe SSD PCIe 4.0 x16 Adapter Card are capable of fully saturating x16 lanes of 4.0 host bandwidth.

Q: 7. Low Profile Bracket included with this controller?

A: This comes with a low profile bracket.

Q: 8. Will this work in a PCIe 4.0 x8 slot, physical x16 slot? With all 4 NVMEs?

A: The HighPoint SSD7105 NVMe RAID Controller requires a full PCIe x 16 slot.

Q: 9. Do the Esata ports support port multiplier? if so, how many drives (eg, can you attach an 8-drive esata encolosure to it)

A: That information is not provided/published by the manufacturer.

Q: 10. Which ASMedia chip does this card use?

A: The manufacturer has not specified in the documentation, however the chip is similar, if not newer than the ASMedia ASM2142.

[Low Profile] I use it in my 2019 Mac Pro with 4x2TB m.2 SSDs from Samsung. The passive cooling works great, I see consistent write/read speed rates in continuous heavy use and the drive is silent.

[Low Profile] I was very impressed. Hooked it up and my G-tech raid drives (from an earlier MacPro system) show up immediately. No reformatting, or trouble shooting.
I had bought a different brand’s PCI housing hoping it would work and Rocketstor even assisted me to trouble shoot since it was their PCI card. My last resort before dumping 20 terabytes in the trash was this unit. I now have those drives thunderbolt daisy chained to new drives that I was forced to buy when my “cheesgrader” macpro blew a mother board. All working fast and great. Avid Editor since ‘94. Very happy with this device.

[Low Profile] This card has it's own bios that boots when you boot the computer. I have 2 sets of HDD's configured as RAID 1 (mirrored). Great for secure storage. If the computer fails, it should not affect the data. If you blow a HDD, you can replace it and the array will rebuild itself. You can take the entire assembly and move it to another computer without data loss. It integrates itself for drive configuration as if it were plugged into the SATA bus. One caution....Make sure you purchase RocketRAID and not just a RAID card. The RAID card doesn't have the spin down function.

[Low Profile] Easy installation, no problems plug and play. Each port is self powered so you can use devices that require more power. I used it to upgrade a older computer, NEF files are not getting any smaller.

[Low Profile] Bought this card to replace the other USB card which went bad. So far so good! Plug & play, speed of transfer is good specially with faster cards. Bluetooth interference in my is not an issue since I have extended the Bluetooth antenna on my Mac Pro 2012. You still need to eject the card before Mac goes to sleep otherwise you get the error massage. No other issues I have encountered so far.

[Low Profile] It arrived a lot faster, initially it was going to take 4-6 weeks. The product is very well built, materials are very good quality. Adding drives was extremely easy. Connection to Mac Pro tower through SAS controller was easy. Everything about the product was absolutely fantastic. I will be filling it with 12tb drives, should make for a very nice storage array. Speeds are very nice as well.
