Ultra-wide-angle zoom designed for full-frame Leica L-mount mirrorless cameras, this 10-18mm lens can also be used with APS-C models where it provides an 18-36mm equivalent focal length range.

Three extra-low dispersion elements reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for increased clarity and color neutrality. Two aspherical elements are also featured to limit spherical aberrations for improved sharpness.

Manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 5.6" away for dramatic wide-angle macro photography.

Five diaphragm blades create crisp 10-point sun-stars when photographing point light sources with smaller aperture sizes.

A Frog Eye Coating has been applied to repel both dust and moisture for added protection when working in inclement conditions.

Q: 1. Is this lens fully compatible with the D7000?

A: Yes, the Nikon 12-24 lens is fully compatible with the Nikon D7000. The Nikon DX 12-24mm f/4G will give you a 18-36mm 35mm equivalent focal length on the D7000.

Q: 2. Can this lens take standard neutral density and circular polarizer filters?

A: Yes. Lens will adapt to all 77mm thread size filters.

Q: 3. Does it have autofocus when used with Panasonic cameras ?

Q: 4. Hey! Can you please tell me what ND filter I can buy for this lens?? I have a Sony a7s3

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 Zoom Lens for Sony E accepts 37mm filters via a rear filter mount and is also compatible with the optional Laowa Magnetic 100mm Filter Holder. Any 37mm ND filters should work. And here is the Venus Optics 100mm Magnetic Filter Holder Set with Frame for Laowa Zero-D Shift 10-18mm Lens, BH #VEFILHOF1018 (https://bhpho.to/3WEcv4s).

Q: 5. Is this lens compatible with the D5200?

A: Yes, the Nikon 12-24mm f/4G IF-ED AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens is compatible with the Nikon D5200.

Q: 6. Can you notice it doesn't have VR? Wich one is better for real estate photography?

A: The standard rule of thumb is that a safe shutter speed for hand-holding without hand shake is the inverse of the focal length. This suggests that at f/12 one could use a 1/12 second shutter. I probably would not go that slow, but that explains why wide angle lenses like this one usually do not need VR. Also, for real estate photography, flash is recommended, so stable hand-holding should not be an issue.

Q: 7. How does this compare to the Nikon 14-30?

A: This lens and the Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S Lens are two different kinds of lenses, BH #NIZ14304. They have two different focal ranges, the 10-18mm is considered a wide lens while the 14-30mm is a mid range zoom lens. The 14-30mm has a constant aperture of F/4 through the entire focal range. While this 10-18mm has an aperture that is f/4.5-5.6. It will be F/4.5 at its widest and stop down as you zoom in.

Q: 8. Hi, just got a Nikon Z mount of this lens, and notice that the body of Z mount is a little different from E-mount. Z mount has bigger mount shoulder, the holder ring of this holder, https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1537521-REG/h_y_filters_lh100_with_this_new_hy.html, cannot slide through the front. Any solution for this?

A: Unfortunately, as far as we were made aware, the H&Y Filters K-series Filter Holder for the 10-18mm is specific to the Sony E-mount version.

Q: 9. does it provide exif data to the camera?

A: No, the Venus Optics Laowa 12-24mm f/5.6 Zoom Lens for Sony E does not provide exif data to the camera.

Q: 10. Is there noticeable barrel distortion at wider focal lengths?

A: The Venus Optics Laowa 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 Zoom Lens for Nikon Z is a very wide lens. And most lenses that wide and full frame will give you some barrel distortion at the wider end of the zoom.

[84° to 121.9°] Basically, this is the widest zoom lens you can buy -- which makes it great, but also difficult to use well. What's so hard?

Well, let's start with focus. I love manual focus, and it works great with this lens, but don't assume that everything is always in focus. The depth of field is huge, but finite. Failure to focus rarely gives a blurry image, but it will give poorer resolution. Worse still, you might not notice looking at the EVF image or LCD. I've seen reviews that say this lens isn't very sharp, and I'm pretty sure it's simply that they didn't quite have things in focus -- sharpness is fine on my 42MP A7RII.

Another reason this lens needs to be used carefully is that 10mm is amazingly wide -- actually comparable to the widest rectangular view you could extract from a 16mm rectangular fisheye. If you don't get close to your subject, it'll seem miles away. There's also going to be a lot of background in your images, so you need to pay close attention that none of the background stuff will distract from your image.

In summary, you need to be very intentional about using this lens in order to get what it promises. However, if you do that, it's fantastic for getting perspectives no other lens can offer.

The 10-18mm range allows a very useful choice of ultrawide perspectives. Distortion is minimal for such a wide lens, and flare is well controlled with nice sunstars. Resolution is fine for 42MP FF and 24MP APS-C. The lens feels very solid and operates smoothly, although it would be nice if there were more difference in feel between the focus, zoom, and aperture rings. The metal lenscap is a nice and reassuring touch.

Complaints? The focus distance scale is wrong -- I suspect they are allowing for somebody trying to use the lens without a rear filter mounted (which should always be there).

[f/5.6] I purchased a 12-24 mm IF-ED AF-S DX Zoom Nikkor Lens from B&H after shopping around a dozen websites. The reason I bought from B&H was the sales person listened to my questions and helped me find the correct solution for my problem. The lens came on time in mint condition and works perfectly. [0.4x] I bought this immediately after they released it for an overseas trip. With 3 relatively light lenses (10-18, 16-35 f/4, 28-75 tamron) I was well covered for the whole range I wanted. Optically this lens is not the best, but works well in most cases if used carefully. This is not an everyday lens, but definitely a good one carry on trips. Here is the link of a sample pic I took on that trip.

[77 mm (Front)] Having read two reviews, one bad one good I was wondering what I would think of this lens. I would say as in the good review critical focus may be important when working up close. But for anything @ distance I found f11-f8 @ infinity and everything as close as 3ft was amazingly sharp. A great lens for landscape, especially if its LARGE & close. Canyon walls etc.

[Manual Focus] This is fun lens, super-wide and it performs quite well. Not a lens to be used for Milky Way shooting, but great for landscapes or normal night photography, including star trails. Coma is fairly well controlled with its smallest f/5.6 aperture. If you are comfortable using fully manual lenses, this is a nice addition, very compact in the bag!

[f/5.6] Perfect lens, wide and free of spherical distortion.

[Manual Focus] Vignetting, corner softness wide open, and some distortion are noticeable. But when you factor in the size and weight of this thing, it's an engineering marvel that such a lens is possible, and at such an affordable price. I own the Samyang 10mm f/3.5 XP and that lens has a very annoying green cast in the corners, and I am delighted that this lens suffer way less, and much easier to fix in Lightroom or CameraRAW. However, stopping down the lens doesn't improve vignetting, unlike the Samyang.
Strangely, the mid-frame some how isn't as sharp as the extreme corners when you focus using the center. I suspect that the plane of focus isn't a plane not a sphere. It could be mustached, but further investigation is required.
This lens works well with the Techart LM-EA9, and can get you very close to your subject as long as you are not blocking all the light. It's a shame that the TTartisan adapter would not correctly read the code of this lens as the Leica 6-bit code cannot represent9mm f/5.6 at all. Let's see what happens in the future.
Despite its many non-idealities, I am still inclined to give it a 5/5 for being a pioneer in ultra wide angle non-fisheye.
